MOD NOTE: Merged with Movies/Books Thread in the main forum. Originally "D/G comparisons." --InTheStars, 9/6

Hey everyone!

I just got done watching half the movie Guys and Dolls (we're doing it for our school play this year) and I was thinking that Sarah and Sky can be compared to Draco and Ginny. Has anyone else thought of couples that relate to D/G? Of course, everyone knows Romeo/Juliette is the typical idea because of their feuding families, but I wanted to delve deeper than the normal.

Thanks for your time! thumbup.gif

I always thought Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy from Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austin were slightly similiar. Darcy, dark and broody, extremely rude... And Elizabeth, sweet and yet fiery...

Have any of you read "The Chosen" by Chaim Potok? It's a jewish book we read for school.

Okay, how can I explain this...

The main characters are two boys, but hear me out.

Reuven is a boy from a happy loving family, he has some casual friends but nobody close, etc. (Ginny)

Then, Danny is this cold boy that everyone fears, has no friends, and his life is ruled by his father. Alot of people fear his father, but many look up to him as a great leader. (Draco)

It's more of a friendship thing, obviously, but as these two boys become friends they start to balance each other out... or even complete each other.

Just like I think Draco and Ginny will! thumbup.gif

(My friends laughed at me when I compared these characters to D/G... blush.gif )
Saint-Seducing Gold
There's a book called Court Duel by Sherwood Smith. Two of the main characters in them are seriously like Draco and Ginny - at least that's what I thought when I first read it.

Meliara (auburn hair, blue eyes) and Vidanric (light blond hair, grey eyes -squee-). Vidanric is originally thought to be on the 'bad' side of the war, but is later found out to be a spy. And Meliara hates Vidanric. Plus he's always smirking and talking in riddles and generally being quite a pain in the ass. But they get together in the end. Draco and Ginny, anyone?

Oh, and Elizabeth and Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice have always reminded me of D + G! biggrin.gif
citrus587
Yay! Someone else that sees the resemblance of Darcy & Elizabeth Bennet! I'm glad I'm not the only since most other people I have talked to either haven't read Pride and Prejudice ( shocked.gif ) or don't see the connection. I also see a link with them and the two in West Side Story.... who knows... possibly I'm crazy!

Have you guys seen the movie version of A Walk To Remember? I could sortof see Ginny as Jamie, the nice girl who refuses to apologize for what and how she is and and Draco as bad boy Landon Carter.

Yeah, I knind of thought that too.

I actually read a fanfic one time that was a D/G take on a walk to remember. It was sad though because in it, Ginny died. dry.gif

Wow... Have you guys ever saw Cruel Intentions? I've seen parts... I knew the whole story... But, wow... The script, the acting... I don't know what it was, but it's... It's one of those movies that suck you in, you know? You feel pain like the character does, all the emotions. By the end I was crying, and that's saying something, since it takes a lot for me to cry...

Anyway, the characters: Sebastian and Annette really reminded me of Draco and Ginny. Even though there was no 'family fueding', the threat of the reactions of Annette's dad was there, although subtle. But what really got me was the plot, how Sebastain and Annette responded to it all... It was how Draco and Ginny would, and how they have in a lot of fictions I've read.

It really amazed me how similiar Sebastian and Katherine (Played by Sarah Michelle Gellar! I love her! *Buffy-fanatic shining through*) paralleled to Slytherins, too. Their characteristics were much like how I envision Slytherins to be. Cunning, sly, and will do anything to achieve their goals. Katherine was epitome of that. Sebastian was the example that not all of them are evil.

Okay, done ranting.

Wow, Stars. Now I feel completely stupid.

Cruel Intentions is my favorite movie. Ever. And although I used Sebastian and Katherine's attitude and persona in one of my fics to portray Draco and Female!Blaise, I nver made the connection you did.

I always thought those two seemed like Slytherins. SO cunning and SO sly and crafty... I can't believe I didn't see Annette and Sebestian as Draco and Ginny. It's so perfect now that you point it out!

But I agree, that movie is just... moving. I cried too. whistling.gif
RyokoJesse
YAY!

Heheheh, I thought no one would respond to this. *blush*

I saw the end of Cruel Intentions (only like the last hour :P) and I thought D/G straight away, and then when I saw Katherine I thought Female!Blaise too. You're right, Stars, it's a good representation of "good"/"bad" Slytherins. After I watched it I went searching for a Cruel Intentions-based D/G fic, but I didnt find a good one. I'd really like to rent that movie and watch it beginning to end sometime.

Shh.. wanna know a secret, Ryoko? My ficcie, Our Little Secret, is Cruel Intentions based. biggrin.gif Although it's not that easy to tell yet.

You don't need to rent it, come to my house and watch it! Oh right... you're on the east coast. dry.gif

GASP. I knew it! I was thinking of Our Little Secret when I was watching Cruel Intentions! All those scenes where Draco and Blaise were planning evil plots filtered into my mind while watching Katherine and Seastian!

Ahaha. This cracked me up. I figured you, of all people, would most likely figure it out. wink.gif (Does that look like a wink to you? it doesn't to me... but it is.)

Yeah.. and hopefully I'll get another chapter out before we're old. whistling.gif

I would have to go with Drive me Crazy They totally despise each other. but you would have to change who portrays some of the things differently......(I dont really know, but I really liked the movie. innocent.gif

And also the book American Girl by Meg Cabot. I see that because they both hate each other, she is pining after her sisters boyfriend (may have to change that). HE is the Presidents son, seems to be rich and snotty and when he finds out the only reason she took him to some party he throws a fit.....Real good book if you ever want to read something. (I may even write a fic based on it.....NOT NOW) sorcerer.gif

I can see that, but Landon isn't as bad enough as Draco..haha. I haven't seen any of the other movies mentioned in this thread, but I can see the Bennetts.
RyokoJesse
Just wondering, Jeslyn, what's your icon of?
SkewlOfRock
Well, whenever I see a movie, I often find myself thinking that it could be a DG thing, maybe AU though. Alex and Emma reminds me of DG, I think because Emma had the red hair and it stood out. And a book, Ella Enchanted! It's a realy DG for me! If you haven't read that book, I suggest you should! It's great! biggrin.gif

Ummm let me think. I've never considered it before, I'm always way too caught up in the actual movie.

I think You Got Mail. When they're always bickering amuses me & it sort of reminds me of when D & G annoy eachother.
TellBell
I agree! I LOVE Ella Enchanted!
RyokoJesse
I love Ella Enchanted, but it never struck me as D/G particularly. I think You've Got Mail is veyr much so though, especially because I can see Fandom!Draco being all romantic online like that (if they were muggles). It's kind of like all of those cliched penpal fics. smile.gif

~Ryoko~
TellBell
10 things I hate about you, or Kiss me Kate, or The Taming of the Shrew
Cliche...maybe.

*this just in!* What...what do you mean Ginnys not a shrew!!! crap...Well Heath Ledger is hot...and so is draco...so there.
SkewlOfRock
Taming of the Shrew! Yeah I had to write some crap on that for Englsih! I liked taht! And erm...I mean Ella Enchanted as an AU...Draco being a prince and Ginny being under the curse and living with..eh those people. Grr, I'll go through my DVD collection later biggrin.gif
HPcrazed182
10 Things I Hate About You! Of course, why didin't I think of that one?

Let's see...*glances at her movies*
Uh, Titanic? *looks around at confused stares* Not so much the relationship, but the fact that everyone wasy trying to stp them & at the beginning of the movie Rose was reluctunt & acted kinda Ginny-like. Leonardo-what's-his-name on the other hand, nothing like Draco, except the fact that he's a charmer.
SkewlOfRock
I know what you mean! biggrin.gif Kind of another AU dg fic, huh?
Sakura1287
Hm.. I never considered Ella Enchanted, but I do love that book.

As for Ella Enchanted, just so you know, they're making a movie out of it! I"m so exited! Ella is going to be played by the girl that was in The Princess Diaries! Or so I'm told, but I sure hope it's true, I loved that movie! Oh goils, I can't wait!
Sakura1287
It comes out pretty soon, too. Ella Enchanted, I mean.

Have any of you read Anne of Green Gables? Anne and Gilbert's relationship kind of reminds me of D and G. So cute.

It's coming out soon? I havent seen any previews...is that girl playing Ella? Who's playing Char? My friend absolutely refuses to see it unless the guy is cute!!

Has anyone ever read the faceon the milk carton series? I'm not saying it could be a DG story, but it's like...um Reeve reminded me of Draco, and Ginny of Janie, with the bright red hair and all.

I could see DG skipping school, going to hogsmeade and gettinga hotel room. Heh!

Well, I think it's good. Megan Follows (plays Anne) was really good in it. But they're kinda long... But yea, I'd recommend see it.
D/G-like? Are you asking if the relationship's the same?

Well, sort of. Gilbert calls her carrots, she she makes herself an enemy of him. But of course, he likes her the entire time. After a while they become friends.

Gilbert is nothing like Draco, except for the fact that he made fun of Anne. Not that he really meant to do that.

Anne might be like Ginny. Red hair, and spunk. Determined. And she doesn't like Gilbert (the way Ginny doesn't like Draco).

But their relationship? Yea it really depends. There are some things that are similar, but I think most of it isn't. But that's all in the movie.

I see what you mean. Anne thinks Gilbert is just horrible, but really, he's not a nasty guy. Draco is. There is the main differnce.

I love how Anne and Ginny both have red hair though. smile.gif

I might have to look for this book, what is it called? Library time!!!
Sakura1287
Anne of Green Gables. There is a whole series but the first book is a classic.

Happy Ending? innocent.gif Maybe I'll be like Emma from Alex and Emma, read the last few pages. If it's good, then I'll read the book because I know I'll like getting there! biggrin.gif

Kris: Is it really?

Draco and Ginny remind me of this couple from a Hindi movie . . for some odd reason. This egoistic boy meets this sweet but sassy girl - she sets him straight, he realizes what a humungous prat he is, he falls in love with her - and then she falls in love with him. *shakes head* Two people from opposite worlds, I tell you.

Ok, there is Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. The movies are based on those two. Just recently, like in 2000, they made a sequel. The sequel isn't based on a book (I don't think). It just has to to with WW1, and Gilbert & Anne....

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Romeo and Juliet! Not for the similarity in characters, of course, since there is none... but the D/G circumstances are always being compared to that of Romeo & Juliet.

Can't really see D/G in Ella Enchanted. Whoever asked about Char's actor - his name is Hugh Dancy and I found one photo in which he is very hot but in all the other photos he looks nothing like Char and isn't even good-looking. blegh. And Anne Hathaway looks nothing like Ella, either! That Michelle girl who played Harriet in Harriet the Spy should have been Ella! Or is she too old by now..? I still want to see the movie though!

EDIT: Forgot to ask - I've always wanted to read Anne of Green Gables, but there are so many of them and I don't usually like series books. Now I hear there's a movie! Yay! Lazy people rejoice! Back to the question, though - do Anne and this Gilbert character get together in the movie or not? Because I'm always annoyed when the characters don't actually get together...

Well I guess no one mentioned it cuz it's sort of a given. Everyone in the D/G fanverse knows it. But it's such a lovely comparison, glad you brought it up. I just hope that our ship doesn't end so unhappily. Then again we're controllin it so it probably won't will it? biggrin.gif

I'm sorry, I'm all about Two Weeks Notice biggrin.gif

It's my perfect idea of an older Draco and Ginny couple. It's great for me too because a lot of authors have begun to write Draco in the arrogant, aloof Hugh Grant way. Also, Sandra Bullock is strong-willed in the film, and doesn't buy into Grant's bs, which is a lot like Ginny. lol, in my mind.

Oh I just realized.
Anyone seen West Side Story? I've only seen about half an hour, but it's a rendition of Romeo & Juliet, so it should work.
InTheStars
blink.gif This is bad. *sigh* I haven't posted anywhere in the forum beside the idea thread for awhile...

And I've never seen West Side Story, but Cruel Intentions is number one as a D/G movie.
