Petunia's the older sister and Lily's the younger one, I believe. Although it's never been really cited in the books.

Most people believe Lily was the younger sister because she was only about 21 when she had Harry and Petunia reproducing even younger (18 to 20) just seems off to them. Some may also see a 'I was here first, not that interloper who took all my parents' attention!' tone to her jealousy. Petunia also fits the 'responsible, somewhat conservative firstborn' image.
On the other hand, we have no explicit proof either. 18 to 20 is very young to marry and start a family, but it certainly happens. Petunia's jealousy could be explained too as that of a younger sister who couldn't live up to her older sister's spark.
Really, it could be either way.
They might even be fraternal twins.

Yeah I thought she was older, just wanted to know what others thought. I would have replked to this earlier but the thread got moved and I couldn't find it.
So essentially if someone writes a fan fic they can choose whether Lily is older or younger.

Maybe they are non identical twins
Yeah I thought they might be fraternal twins (I'm one) but one would still be older though it wouldn't be so significant. I still kindda think if they were twins it's more likely it would have been mentioned though they could be.

do you really want to go that way? I always though that Petunia was younger, i don't know why (may be to many FF
)if you say that they were twins (not identical of course) and that one still was younger. well there are two teories:
1) older by born
2) older by conception
because the first that is conceived is the last to go out.
I've read it somewhere . I think that at one of my science textbook at the school.

Yeah that's why I said it was more likely to have been mentioned.
Anyway it's not necessarily true that thing about conception as it depends on a whole lot of things. Anyway sure you don't want all the details on that but that isn't true. It would be done on birth as with all twins in the real world but I don't think i'd do it anyway. It was just an idea I was throwing around.

I've always thought that Petunia is older than Lily. Also, in the Korean version, I think either Petunia says "younger sister" or Petunia is mentioned as being Lily's older sister.
