I hate the Ginny-has-grown-over-the-summer thing more than ANYTHING! *twitch*

And the thing that Ginny uses Draco to get back at Harry. But there are far more smile.gif
kazte
ohhh and when they cange Ginny's eyes to blue, I mean it's ok if Draco has blueish gary eyes, but from brown to blue??
mona_punk
Draco - being so nice to Ron, Harry, and Hermione

Ginny - when she hates Ron and her parents, when she constantly shouts at Ron for being a mindless git etc. etc. smile.gif smile.gif
BabyPan
Yes! And that the story only revolves around trying to convince Ron to like Draco or something.
bookish_gurl024
When draco goes so soft... It's like he loses the attidtue..
Sakura1287
Yes, I think the #1 D/G fanfic crime, IMHO, is nothing more than a sickenly sweet and polite Redeemed!Draco.

Bleeech.

mona_punk
But I thought sweet Draco is ,well. . . sweet but not sickenly ONLY when Ginny is around the block. . .

::comes out of lurking::

One thing that really annoys me, would be ManWhoreDraco. I hate him. He usually tends to be physically perfect and just the all around SexGod who can charm the pants off anyone's dead grandma. rolleyes.gif And usually paired with ManWhoreDraco is OverlyInnocent/ShyGinny. She tends fall in love whith him at first sight even though he's the biggest asshole like ever. That Ginny just bugs the hell out of me.

Oh and there's been a lot of fics where they have StalkerOfHarryGinny or there's the infamous SuicidalBecauseHarryWon'tLookAtMeGinny.

All of those characterizations of Gin and Draco are just too annoying for words.
unioncityblue5
This is actually not about Draco and Ginny themselves, but it is a common occurence in D/G fics:

Completely OOC Gryffindors.

Ginny and Draco go out, and all of a sudden we have Catatonic!Ron and Harry, Hermione shunning her, the whole house ignoring her. Would that ever actually happen to Ginny? I don't think so.

I agree with you on that one, but sometimes it's all about the HUMOUR but if it gets TOO angsty, it's NO fun anymore *pouts*

3. Evil Ginny

Evil Ginny?? I don't know, I like her having dark secrets, and not cowering in front of Draco, but not exactly planning to rule the world.

She's Ginevra now thumbup.gif
Kayters
I hate it when Draco is nice to everyone...or is "lovey-dovey" with Ginny in public...it drives me MAD...to me, the perfect D/G relationship, is Draco still being mean, and they only are wub.gif in the privacy of his room or something...and maybe Ginny doesn't like that...and wants more to be in public...

I don't know. But Nice!Draco and Lovey-Dovey!Ginny/Draco=the bane of my exsistence...and the eye-colour changing thing...and the "Oh my! How you've GROWN!!"...we know girls grow...but not all at once over the summer! It's not like BOOM!She's gotten better looking.

:sigh:

lmao I'd love to tell that to all the fanfic writers out there. I cannot seem to go one day of my fanfic/internet surfing career without a "Ginny comes back to school from summer vcation having changed a lot. Everyone's noticing!"

Ahem. Well I'm sure they would notice if Ginny suddenly sprouted breasts, grew a foot and a half, became suspiciously sexy, and had those curves that all perfect people have.

::shakes head:: Those fics and also the fics were Ginny becomes rebellious and suddenly goes "punk" (notice the quotations stretched around that one) are the ones that get to me the most. Seriously. Does Ginny Weasley honeslty strike those writers to be the type who would go from average, spirited, happy girl to biotchy, I'll-punch-you, Potter-suddenly-loves-me-but-I-will-choose-Draco-because-we-both-have-serious-attitude-issues girl? Didn't think so.

::Sighs:: How good it is to say that to a crowd who actually understands. laugh.gif

I hate when Ginny suddenly changes her character, like it's not reading about Ginny anymore, she becomes sly, sexy, most popular at school, dates a lot of guys, well this whorish girl.
Same goes with Draco, when he becomes suddenly Harry, Ron, Hermy's best friend, falls in love with Ron's sister, well, he's just not Draco anymore.
La Hermione
Oh yeah. It makes me cringe when I read Ginny called Virginia. IT'S GINERVA.

i absolutely agree! i mean, ginny sprouting breasts? ugh.... well, for the ooc draco...thats totally stupid....

but i read this fic... that draco likes ginny..its not stupid...its nice...he was absolutely in character....

the new-ginny-over-the-summer-thing? totally stupid...

but i also read fics where in draco is being CIVIL....keyword:civil. not nice. there's a few criticism...but not being nice...just civil to harry, ron and hermione....

some d/g fics are totally effortless....

especiall some where in she goes away and comes back with boobs or something...*shakes head in disappointment*
Kaykos
Ah yes, I don't enjoy the fics where Ginny is manic-depressive and bi-polar and Draco comes to see what's wrong with her. I mean, sure, if she cut herself and tried to commit suicide it would arouse some wonder in some people, but honestly! The only thing Draco would do in this situation is throw a "One less Weasley" party. When there is no background, there is no romance. *sigh* Lol.

QUOTE

XD! So true, so true. As romantic as it is to watch as our heroine cuts herself into bloody shreds and sobs about the non-boyfriendedness of it all, I really don't think Draco would care the tiniest bit. Except maybe throw it in Ron's face.

I like the semi-civil!Draco- well, more like TRYING to be civil- for post-Hog fics where he's going home ot meet the family and all that...but fics were he realises, "Hey! It's time to stop being a bad guy and get into the Good Guy Clique!" are the ones that will someday send me into therapy. It does make me shake my head. And stare sadly at my computer screen. U_U

Though, come to think of it, we only read in the books to hints that the Snakes support him and cut in with kicks and giggles during his snipe-fests. Other than that, have we seen evidence of FRIENDS? (Some people seem to like to make it clear in their stories that Crabbe and Goyle aren't frineds- Draco doesn't like them period. He hangs out with them bcause...um...)

As reasonable as it would be to say that Draco doesn't like Crabbe or Goyle (or fot that matter Pansy), it wouldn't be supported canonically at all. Draco does hang out with them, and all the time (even when he's not out and about doing Sarcasm's bidding, as we saw when Harry & Ron polyjuiced in CoS. If he hates them, he sure does a superb job of keeping it bottled inside. I tend to think he has a fairly high tolerance level for the insipid - as strange as it may sound. He possibly may have even tempered himself to tolerate it as dumb goons who do your bidding are quite handy. Loyalty, even from the dumbest, most irritating folks on earth, can come in handy if you're Draco Malfoy. This may be another good point as to why he keeps Pansy around. Loyalty can be used.

So no, I wouldn't agree that Crabbe and Goyle aren't his friends. They are, in the loosest definition, exactly that. Companions.

QUOTE

I don't think he'd be as worried as folks play him up to be, no. But I don't think he would necessarily celebrate. I think it would bewilder him, if anything. Can you imagine never really paying mind to someone, and then seeing them try to kill themselves? Even if you hated their family, it wouldn't be very easily handled - in either direction. Draco is a horrible, horrible boy, yes, but I don't think he's numb to emotion.

Just my 2 nickels.

Most annoying bit, IMO, (to keep on topic, heh) is when Draco becomes buddy-buddy with Harry (or any of the trio). Yes, let's be friends, skippity la la daffodils all day long. It's such utter and complete bull.
jade_radcliffe
yeah...i agree with draco being civil...but being all kind? THAT is not his personality...maybe being civil and all...

mmm....but i read this fic where in draco and harry settle their differences together..and well, they become friends, and it was nicely done! they still have the sarcasm, but they talk civilly...it was very nicely done....

and i hate fics with the CHEESY thing....with the lines, "you have the most beautiful eyes around" or, "i love you, do you love me?"

well, some writers make them really romantic and NOT cheesy and i love that, but some, well, its really disappointing.......
Morikumo
For the writers who can make those sort of lines work, kudos. But I've seen some where there is no background story whatsoever, and it's just something where Draco pops out of a corner and confesses love- or worse yet, ginny latches herself onto her man and blubbers about their compatibility. Goodness.

Somethign that can only- thank God- happen in fanfic.

jade_radcliffe
usually, when something like that happens, i usually abandon the fic, i read another one.....

i relly dont like being all cheesy and stuff.....

Mod Note: Merged with "DG Cliches" --Crystal, 9/1

*ahem* This thread is supposed to be different than the "Little Annoying Things" thread because... all clichés aren't annoying.

Really.

They're not.

Well, if they are, someone merge... [this topic with the "Little Annoying Things" one]

Right. Here's a cliché that does bother me:

Draco calls Ginny either "Red" or "Weasel" and Ginny calls Draco "Ferret".

C'mon, surely Draco Malfoy would come up with something better than those names for his love interest? And, why would Ginny remind Draco of one of his most humiliating moments in his life? She's not that quirky!
Novalee Sims
QUOTE

Good point, Nutcrazical! It's not so much that the names are stupid, with me, as it is that they are used in every... single... fic. Make it end!!!

Let's see. A cliché that hasn't been mentioned... Oh, yes. Draco is running from Pansy who, without any canon proof to support it, is a blubbering, fat idiot who has nothing else to do than chase her "Drakey-poo". Then, to get her off his back, he immediately snogs Ginny and, as Pansy runs sobbing from the... well, it is most likely the library, they decide that they like each other.

Actually, they love each other now.

No really.

They do.

Why isn't anyone buying this?
Leelah
I don't like it if Draco or Ginny are discribed like top-models.I mean it's OK if they are beautiful or pretty, but I don't like it if they are Mr and Mrs Universe.

Then, the cliché of Draco and Ginny being trapped in a potions closet is so old that it became annoying.

Draco shouldn't be too nice and Ginny shouldn't be too innocent (which does NOT mean that she should be a punk or something like that).

There is one story I came across one time that described them like that in such a way that it became ubearably annoying for me online2long.gif. Draco was in fact a model (which he became by accident... imagine that.) and Ginny was soooooo beautiful that the most popular designer ever (whom Draco unsurprisingly modeled for) wanted her to model for him, but she was doing so well in her business that she just didn't want to. Yet she did indulge in one jeans campaign with her dearest, and every time they went out in public they turned every head.

I wanted to tear my hair out.

The one thing I absolutely hate in a d/g fic is a GinnySue. You know, when Ginny is the most beautiful girl in her grade/school/planet/galaxy/universe/dimension but hasn't noticed because she doesn't really care about looks. I mean, she's not the superficial kind of girl, she concentrates on her grades. So consequently she's got top grades, especially in potions, which means she can attend Advanced Potions with the older students (aka Draco). Oh, and she somehow manages to buy beautiful "feminine" clothes that enhance her perfect body, to show off her chocolate doe eyes and emphasize the beauty her beautiful fiery/golden (her hair miraculously changed over the summer) hair. *gag*

Nutcrazical
chuya - you've described 80% percent of the fics whose first chapters I've had the misfortune to read.

Gorgeous!Ginny + Gorgeous!Draco = The Cliché of Clichés.

"Drakey-poo"! How I absolutely despise that nickname! I think that, if Pansy ever called Draco that he would promptly curse her into Oblivion. Or not - Draco isn't exactly the "I'm angry! I shall curse you!" type; but you get the point.
Leelah
Another very annoying thing is that very often D/G-stories just take place in a world without magic. I mean I've read some very good stories in which nobody uses magic, but I don't like it if the characters just have nothing in common with the books.

I mean a pure-blood-obsessed guy like Drcao wouldn't really live with muggels.
DoggyofMoongolia
I personally hate the TorturedSoul!Draco paired wth the IGiveADamnAboutDraco'sTorturedSoulAndI'mGonnaBeSurapySweetToHim!Ginny. I also hate the I'mSoFriggenSexy!Ginny with the Submisive!Draco. Weell, some epolpe just suck at fanfic-writing, like me.

I'm definitely not a big fan of fics where events simply occur too fast (With the exception of "exceptional" one-shots). There are just too many multi-chapter fics out there where D/G kiss/make out/cross the line even before the second chapter begins...oh the impossibility.

That, and many of the cliches/annoying details all of you mentioned ^^

This is why I love AU fics with IC D/G all grown-up and doing things beyond Hogwarts years...less redundancy, better plotlines, more character development biggrin.gif
nessa_chan
i hate the ones where ginny and her *new best friend* (generally the persona of the writer) are running down the corridoor late for potions.
she just so happens to run into malfoy. on the spot the two mentally run through wedding plans, kids names, the lot. generally starting with *my...malfoy has sure grown cute. NO! MUST HATE!*

then you scroll down two paragraphs. and theyre post coital. in an empty classroom. mad2.gif
-Jules-
there is no magic featured anywhere in the story. or Draco and Ginny are all affectinate in public. Draco would make sure all the doors were locked and be in the privacy of his rooms before he would even consider doing anything.

I can see them holding hands and Ginny giving him the ocassional kiss on the cheek in public but nothing really affectionate, like huge snog sessions in public.

Also Draco being nice to everyone just because hes dating ginny and ginny changed his opions.

but I can read most DG fics and enjoy them.
Pumpking pie lover!
I love D/G ficsbut the things that I just can't stand are this ones:
first for ginny:

*she is so mean/evil/cold,
*she olny thinks in boys and make up, and all that
*she hates harry/ron/hermione
*she acts like she knows everything about everything

for draco:
*he hates his father
*too kind
*very inocent
*he has dated every single girl at howgarts exept for gryffindor girls

both:
*they get toghether only to bother someone(mostly ron or harry)
I cant remember anymore

Author's change Ginny into some super model, saying that 'people change over the years' is a lame excuse. I mean, what's wrong with the Ginny we all love? She doesn't need to have such a 'chest', no amber or strawberry blonde hair, no curves in all the right places, no nice arse ect.

I also hate it when Draco becomes obsessed with Ginny after Ginny had outwitted him. (usually after their first run in he becomes obsessed)
Invidia
In general, all the cliches listed annoy me, but the one I simply cannot stand is the 'Ginny is a tortured soul' types. Granted I do think she would be prone to depression, but when the author has her cutting herself and shifting to a moping, whining girl? No.
Onylin
Thing I most despise? That would have to be when the author makes The Trio become friends with Draco. Nothing bothers me more than that, except maybe when they spell Ginny's name wrong (Ginerva instead of Ginevra).

I have another annoying thing, but it's also a bit of a question. In many stories, Draco's middle name is always different. I've never taken the time to look into this, but do we actually know his middle name?

Exactly. One reason that I find the whole Draco/Ginny story appealing is that Draco has very little flaws, and Ginny does not. I HATE when people list Ginny as have strawberry blonde hair. It drives me up the wall! *takes calming breaths*

Thanks for pointing out that most people are spelling Ginevra wrong. I always assumed that it was spelt Ginerva. Sorry! blushing.gif

As every one knows, Ginny isn't going to just suddenly have a great arse, great boobs, great hair, complexion, etc., all at the same time, or any if at all. Yet, she CAN have some. Yes, I am contradicting this. It IS possible to spout boobs over the summer. I have PROOF! tongue.gif >.< Consiquently, I dun really like my boobs any more...I had to give up all of my favorite shirts cause they wouldn't fit! *pouts* well, enough. I just had to contradict that one.

~Ginny is running down the hallway and suddenly colides into a wall, a very warm wall, which is actually a person, and she falls down.~

When you run into some one in the hallway, do you fall down???? I most certainly do not. If some one PUSHES you...normally, chances are, you aren't going to fall down, you will stumble, but unless some one pushes you REALLY HARD you don't fall down. Yet, every time, Ginny WILL fall down. No doubt about it. I absolutely hate it.

~Ginny is a gangster~

Every word out of her mouth is a cuss word. Now, I myself do cuss, alot. But, not as much as Ginny did in that story. "You Motherf***ing c*** b****** I f***ing hate you, you *mother****ing arsehole!" Those were the majority of Ginny's sentences. I only read one chapter. I coudn't read further.

~Ginny's eyes have mysteriously turned blue~

Why are Ginny's eyes blue!?!?! JK CLEARLY states that her eyes are BROWN. Doe brown, chocolate brown, copper brown. Any kind of brown, but not BLUE~!~ Okay, I'm done ranting about that.

~Draco is gushy, mushy, and a pansy~

Why did you do this to Draco! What happened! Thats not Draco! Thats Neville! EWW! Neville is kind and sweet and caring, but lemme tell ya. HE'S NOT DRACO! Draco is supposed to be Macho, Sexy, buff, mean, a jerk, (okay, he doesn't have to be sexy and buff...but I think he is... thumbup.gif ) Example: Draco is sickeningly nice, cute, childish, and it disgusts me. He can be nice to Ginny and everything but...anything beyond that...

Here is the rules I think should be written down for Draco and Malfoy's...

Malfoy's do not show emotion under any circumstances. Malfoys do most certainly not giggle. Malfoys hate the Weaslys' Malfoys are always a gentleman,(discluding Lucius) They don't cuss in front of women.

~Ginny runs away because Ron, Harry, Hermione and her whole family is being mean and abusing her, so instead of any one that she likes, (lets say dumbledore) she runs to Draco~

Oh PALEASE! I think that she would have gone to Dumbledore, or one of the Ministry officials first, The Malfoy's and the Weasleys' are known for hating each other.

~Draco and Ginny say I love you every five friggin minutes~

Gah...you know you are pushing it when you say it more than 30 times a day...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, thats about all the rambling and ranting I have in me. So I think I'll stop. *pants* Anyways, I think I'm going to go fix some of my stuff that annoys me...so I won't be a hypocryte any more. rolleyes.gif
I have to say the most annoying thing I've read is when Ginny suddenly is able to have a comeback for everything and the like. I thought Draco was supposed to be the annoying git that people are afraid of (or just ignore) not supposed to be topped by anyone other than the golden trio. Hmm... Just my two cents.
LadyGinevraMalfoy
Wow, I'm so glad someone came up with this topic! Like most, I also hate when Ginny changes over the summer. Yeah, it really isn't that bad of an idea, but it is so VERY overused. I cannot stand fics that have Ginny "come out of her shell" because of Draco. I mean come on, she has 6 older brothers, and Molly Weasley for a mother...I am sure she can handle herself. I highly doubt Ginny is introverted. Oh, and sappy Draco ispathetic. He can be sweet and mushy around Ginny, but I cannot picture him being that way around the rest of the wizarding world. I hate it when authors destroy all that we've come to love about Draco; the arrogance, the calculating coolness, etc.
Well, that's my rant! It felt good to get that off my chest!
I can't stand it when Ginny becomes "street". She starts talking like a gangster and prostituting herself to all the boys of the school, who just happen to find her wildly attractive. When you read the books everyone speaks a well-spoken form of English, not a deformed version of it. I also dislike shallow Ginny. She's a pain in the arse.
Oh and stereotyping! That drives me round the bend.
Although I must defend some cliches; it's very difficult as a writer to avoid all of them. Originality is hard to find and I'd love to write something that was completely free of cliches. What I want from a D/G story is something that has depth of character and plot.
Chiisai_Kuro_Buranko
haha, probably my biggest thing is Draco and Harry becomming best pals and all the gryfs thinking 'Oh, Draco and Ginny are dating...let's pounce huggle him!' >.< That irks me. Harry and Draco walking around together and compairing quiditch techniques and all pal-y like 'Hey Draco you want to hang out?' "Oh sure thing Harry 'ol mate sound delightful' ...it makes me want to vomit. Draco maybe accepting that he has to be civil to Ginny's friends and family is acceptable...but over that is just gross.
ChiffaniChan
I hate when they make Ginny super smart. I hate when they make her have Strawberry Blonde hair. I hate super depressed Ginny, I hate it when she suddenly hate the trio, I hate when Harry is suddenly so in love with Ginny, and there's so much more.
TwistedPixie
I feel suicidal when Ginny is like fawning over Harry, then she finds him snogging Hermione in a broom closet, then she runs off crying to her room, and everyones sorry, then she rebels, screams and runs off to Draco with an amazing proposition...i mean come on! it like JUST GET OFF OUR SCREENS!!!!
or
Ginny realises half way through an interesting argument that Draco is super cute, slaps herself in disgust, then agrees with herself, Draco confronts her and she blushes like mad runs off crying after a nasty comment.....
~5 chappies later~
Ginny loves him, he doesnt know if he loves her, then under the fading sun he realises that hes madly in love with her, tells her and she smiles, kisses him, tells him she loves him too...la de da.... they tell each other how much they love each other every other second, and then end up having billions of babie that hair and eye colour change from parents e.g. blond hair brown eyes, pink hair (lol) silver eyes. URGH SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!!!
glad to get that off my chest
moogle
I have to admit, I hate when Ginny suddenly hates the trio. When she dresses like a ###### and turns all bad girl. When she swears all the time and seems to be the big tough girl even Draco is afraid of.
I also hate when Draco is all mushy. He can be a jerk or an arrogant pig but I can't stand him as romantic romeo.
Also hate when Ginny suddenly is the most desirable girl in the world with her perfect curvy body. Do not like when Draco is made too handsome. We all know he has a pointy face and a skinny body, no need to make him into some TVad body builder *pukes*
I could say more but I won;t.
I hate the evil Ginny!
"Oh, I'm so upset cuz Harry is ignoring me! I'm going to join the dark side and shag Draco, that will get him good!" PLEASE! NO offense but that's just one of the most ridiculous plots that I've seen!
I like a nice Draco, but not too nice or cheesey.
Bristar
You know I had an idea, that maybe, for a plot line, that Draco himself wants to off Voldemort because he's holding his parents lives over his head and he catptures Ginny because she's Harry's girlfriend (well x-girlfriend anyway), because he thinks she knows Harry's plan? And it of course has nothing to do with suddenly become this great wonderful person.
Oh and I totally hate depressed Ginny, gag me. And it's totally irritating when the Trio suddenly become complet jerks, or her family does. Blah. I mean come on, it's gota be at least somewhat believable.
