Basically, anything about the Harry/Hermione romance, PROVIDED that your topic does not fit in the H/H sub-forums or anywhere else in Portkey. Later we will describe the H/H sub-sections.


What are absolute No-Nos in here?

Why have most archived threads been locked?
To limit each thread to approximately 100 posts. At that length, it loads faster, is easier to read, monitor, and index. Most serial threads have "previous thread" and "next thread links" in their first and/or last posts.


How do I contact the Mods of this forum?
Post your concerns, feedback, and requests on this thread! Our Real Life may prevent us from responding quickly, but respond we will.

Requests - insert a poll in an existing thread, help out with linking or other board codes like QUOTE & SPOILER, revive threads in the Archive section

hey.
Normally i'm just a D/G shipper, but since coming to PK about 4 months ago i find myself more and more interested in H/Hr. I'm somwhat reluctant to become a full blown shipper though... dont ask why... i really dont know.

does anyone want to persade me, or does anyone have any fics that would make me love this ship?!

Well, there are many great things in Portkey alone that's enough to convince people of H/Hr. For starters, I recommend that you read the many brilliant essays on the Pumpkinpie's Army Forum, they're all great. Here's the link:

I personally recommend the essays written by Sienna, Athena, Mad Eye Mike, romulus lupin, Hawk 92, Turambar, innermurk, and many others. They're all good but the ones by Innermurk and Turambar will be a good start.

That's just a start. Hopefully others will tell you which fics to read. There are many good ones.

Hem hem...Speaking of great fics, have you read any of Eric's?! (E.C.R. Potter) He's one of the best H/Hr writers out there! Other's you may want to try would be Facade, romulus lupin, Tic Tac, Lori (PoU, anyone?) and Cassandra Clair (The Draco series.) Hopefully that will help you a bit. I know there are several more out there, I just can't think of them right off the top of my head.

I personally love Harry's Mistriss' fics.They are so romantic and she makes the relationship between the two really come out. They are so detailed and organized. Plus, they are soooo funny! Sorry if i spelled the name wrong.

I don't think it SHOULD be moved to the fanfic section, since it's not just about fanfics (though, if I WERE to recommend a fanfic for someone to 'convince' them to be an H\Hr shipper, I'd recommend a fic where the author became an H\Hr shipper as a result of doing the research to write their fic -- namely, Arya and her Acceptance of Fate, available on a yahoo group and ff.net (sorry, don't have the exact URL, although it IS listed in the fanfic recommendation section).

About 'persuade me...'

Well... first, I wanna know just where is WafflePrincess coming from? i.e., is there anything Waffle's seen, herself, which at least might make her THINK there's H\Hr?

If not... well, then we'll have to begin back in the beginning, all the way to the first meetings and book one and things like that, and go from there... (the proposed 'Ultimate H\Hr essay' in the Pumpkin Pie Archive would be the result, I fear).

On the other hand... is there anything we can build on\skip over? Is she willing to accept evidence from when Harry and Hermione were 11, 12, 13 years old, etc, or will she say they're 'too young' for it to matter then?

In other words... how have YOU read the books, Waffle?

Persuade you? Simple, really -

Harry needs Hermione badly. Does Ron need her just as badly? 5 books, and the answer is still "No"

Besides, Hermione needs him, too

They complement each other. She is his voice of reason. He is her protector. Yup, they need each other badly.

Read Turambar's H/Hr, love and flying, Updated: A five-part essay. It was really what established my extremist loyalty to the Pumpkin Pie/Harmony ship. It was actually one of the first essays supporting H/Hr that I read. It's very telling of the ship. You won't believe how much symbolisms are hidden in the books.

Field, to be honest I'm not sure exactly where this thread should be moved. However, WafflePrincess/Katie, this forum is not for H/Hr Shippers to "persuade" other Shippers. I personally have no interest in convincing anyone to jump aboard the Ship, that's your choice to make.

That said, as Eric/E.C.R. Potter mentioned, the PumpkinPie's Army Forum is the place to go for evidence supporting H/Hr, the H/Hr Fic Recs Forum is where you should go for any good fics, and then there is the H/Hr - How and when did you Ship them? thread, which speaks for itself.

Basically, we don't need to tell you why you should Ship H/Hr, there is stuff all over PK to allow you to decide for yourself.

I agree with Nielle to believe is to see for yourself and to be persuade by other people.... I mean you can just read the essays done in the PA.... there are also loads of portkey H/Hr fics that you can read.. i mean majority of the stories in PK are infact H/Hr.... if you do want to see where we're comin' at.. just look around.... we don't have to point you at them to be honest because when you enter the H/Hr section.... you'd already know what were talkin' about....

I like D/G too but I really don't know if that'll happen in canon.... course that's for another thread....

I don't think you should be persuaded, I think you should figure out for yourself whether you likr H/Hr or not. I never had anyone tell me what to think or try to persuade me, I only came across this site when searching for H/Hr fics. If you've read the books, and it seems to you that Harry and Hermione should be together, and you really want them too, then you're a H/Hr shipper. Simple as that in my opinion.

I agree with Epona. Read some H/Hr fics and see what you think. If they scream 'this is the ship for me' go for it. You shouldn't really have to be presuaded to join a ship, it should come naturally.

It's like when I used to ship R/Hr (horrifying, I know), I tried getting into an R/Hr fic and I just couldn't get interested. I never even finished a one-shot because I just felt that it (the ship, I mean) wasn't right. I stumbled onto to this site on accident and read a couple an H/Hr fics and thats when I decided this was the ship for me.

Bottom line: Go with your gut feeling.

Any shippy debates about the JKR site's contents should be confined to the debate forums/threads like the H/H vs R/Hr + H/G forum.

The "Shippy Talk" thread is in the H/H main forum, since any such discussion will be predominantly Harry/Hermione. Portkey-ers are welcome to discuss in that thread any new clues about PK's other ships.

The "Non-Shippy" and "Navigating Tips" threads are perfect incentives for you to visit our reformatted General Harry Potter section.

Mods often move posts to the appropriate threads. Here's how to find moved posts. Better read that guide now, since that will come in handy when the POA movie comes!

I have friends that are R/Hrs! I've met ppl who are R/Hrs! Even tho H/Hr is much more popular, I never met one! But what do you say when a H/Hr conversation comes up?

How do we deal with people who don't ship H/H? Simple. We let people ship what they want. Though of course, anti-H/H shippers should leave us be in practically all parts of Portkey.

If people ask you for proof of H/H, then point them to our Pumpkinpie's Army. Also to threads like "303 reasons for H/H", "H/H evidence from textual analysis[/URL]", "How did we become H/H shippers?" and other popular topics linked in the first post.

THAT is the simple answer.

Need convinced eh? Well, first and foremost, check the essays out here. The PA forum is filled with loads of comprehensive essays that make you scratch your head and really think.

Now, if you want to read a really good H/Hr fic, I would suggest starting here. This is the Paradigm of Uncertainty trilogy by Lori. She's an excellent writer. Start with the Paradigm of Uncertainty, then read the Show That Never Ends, and finally Hero With a Thousand Faces, although it's not finished yet. If you read those and aren't convinced, then there are plenty of awesome fics right here at PK. Just start looking around...it's like a library.

Personally, my reasons for shipping H/Hr are not based on fanfic, but on canon evidence. While there are some good H/Hr fics out there (including here in PK), I'd like to point you instead to some essays based on canon:
Partners and Friends: The Evolving Relationship between Harry and Hermione by Penny Linsenmayer. Still one of the best H/Hr essays around, in my opinion.
There's a thread in the Pumpkin Pie Army forum on Why So Many People Find Themselves on the H/H Ship. You might want to look at this thread for reasons why former non-shippers find themselves shipping H/Hr.
Another good essay found in Symbolic Flight, called Love Interrupted, which shows how JKR is deliberately "hiding" Harry's reactions to Hermione in key H/Hr moments.
A brilliant essay by Jim Ferer on Symbolic Flight, called Why I Believe Harry and Hermione are Perfect for Each Other.
And from Turumbar, Why Harry and Hermione Make Future H/G and R/Hr Pairings Impractical, and Strength and Independence.

These essays are well worth your time, and they provide reasons why people believe that H/Hr will happen in books (and not just in fanfiction). Hope that helps.
