Well, it seems everyone has a view on reading between the lines of the books, and showing their thoughts, but what instances could actually drive them enough to make them confess their feelings of undying love for each other?

My personal belief/hope is that Harry's mounting anger/depression/despair will make him fall deep into isolation. Who would be able to pull him out? Who could reach him in such an instance? I am even writing a fic based on that premise

I agree, I think she'll be the one to bring him out of a pit of despondency. Or maybe there'll be a catclysmic event in which Voldemort captures Hermione and Harry realises how much he loves her. That one sounds a bit contrived though - but so many possibilities!

Of course, this will sound like a bad soap opera, but I don't mind that. Anyway, Harry stays with her, and as she's asleep and no one is sure she is going to make it, Harry confesses his love. He never once leaves her side, and as she makes a recovery, she wakes up to see Harry sleeping in the chair by her bedside almost every night.

I sometimes wonder, though, whether JKR will be going for a big "realization" scene ... the way I sometimes see it (incurable romantic that I am ) is that she may very well just slip that scene in somewhere in Book 6 or 7.

the deep bout of depression scenerio seems to be the best bet for me.. Come on, his parents, and his godfather were murdured. harry thinks he's a danger to his friends. He's either going to kill someone or be killed. He witnessed 2 deaths, cedrics and sirius's. The girl who he had a crush on dumped him, or rather he dumped her. he was banned from quidditch for life (quidditch was what he did to relieve pressure). Dumbledore thinks that harry is a weapon. He's an orphan and will have to spend the rest of the summer with the dudsleys.

jesus, he's gonna be suicidal or something. come on, what a better scenerio to have hermione cheer him up. harry just needs someone to cling to in his times of depression, and i can't imagine anyone else besides hermione (maybe molly weasley, but that's another story).

yup, I agree. Seems to me that during OotP Hermione was the only one that REALLY worried about Harry and was willing to do things for him. Don't remember ONE single talk Ron and Harry had about the things that were happening. Right now Hermione has prooved that she can be the perfect friend by understanding his feelings. And later on, Harry will realize that Hermione can be more than just a perfect friend. I just pray to god that Hermione doesn't feel anything for Ron, which I don't think so (I believe she's just patiently waiting for Harry to notice her), but could happen.

I agree with most of you, I think there will be a major event that will trigger the beginning of feelings.

Did any of you see, in the chapter where Dumbledore is explaining "everything" to Harry, his thoughts are interrupted by himself thinking, "Hermione told me to practice Occlumency", "Hermione said to be nice to Kreacher", "Hermione said Voldemort was tricking me." He'll remember how she tears up when he yells at her, how happy she was when she thought Harry was made prefect, how she risks her life for him!! Did *you* see anyone else speak up in Umbridge's office? *That's* love, people!

This is the line of thought that I think will make him realize how much she means to him!

Also... Did you notice that in Harrys dream with Cho demanding.. er... was it chocolate frogs... anyway... Cho transformed to Hermione... thats gotta mean something

Anyway, knowing Harry's talent of getting away from death by a hair, he'd probably get knocked semi-unconcious and he hears what's going on. Then Hermione find him and starts crying for him to wake up thinking he's dead (girls tend to do that more than guys now that I think about it... I dunno why....) and starts crying and knowing Ron, he's trying to pry her off to see if Harry's alright. Then Hermione won't let go and Harry wakes up to see the comotion, and of course Hermione being her tackle hugs the poor guy. Knowing Harry he'll end up thinking about this and might come to the conclusion of her being in love.... He'll probably avoid her, tell Ron and hope for advice (or someone else, I dunno anymore Harry seems closer to Herm nowadays to me....), and/or ask Hermione, not really in that order. Anyway, I dunno, knowing JKR she probably'll skip a few years and just give us a married Herm and Harry.

Adorable scene! Anyway, Romulus I loved your fic! I even quote it in my signature! I think that it's gonna be the depression thing...the saving the damnsel in distress is kind of cliche, you know what I mean?

Hmmmmm. Interesting stuff we have here. And to think I missed it until you good people pointed it out! *slaps self upside the head*.

I wonder what it means... here's my theory. It's a play on the idea of giving someone your "heart". Cedric gave Cho his (AKA the frog cards), and she's mad because Harry won't do the same. So up pops Hermione - and if my theory is right, then she's so got his heart. And Hermione, being the poppet she is, suggests that Harry give something else - his firebolt. I.e the next best thing.

But why frog cards? Ah, I have an answer for everything...
Frog cards aren't very important to Harry. And we can be fairly sure from canon that he doesn't tend to pay much attention to his emotions as he should... but his firebolt *is* important to him. I believe that JKR is telling us through allegory that Harry has his emotional priorities wrong. Basically, Hermione gets the best part of Harry, even if he hasn't worked it out yet.

And the frog cards come out of the robes.... HEART, I tell you!

Well, that's my take on it. I could be right, or I could be so far off the mark I should be made to read H/G smut until I regain my senses... *shudder*. I hope I'm right. I WANT to be right!

All right here's something interesting that I've thought up (in my twisted mind)!

GINNY helps HARRY and HERMIONE realize their feelings for each other - in spite of RON!

Yeah, I'd have to agree with most of ya In OotP, Hermione seemed to be one of the few who could get Harry talking [Mind you, when I say few, I mean 3-4, and she was the only girl] so I think that Harry will realise how Hermione has always been there for him the whole time, whether he knew it or not.

But I have another thought for the start of the H/Hr relationship. Like what some of you said, something horrible happens first and that's when Harry realises his true feelings...

And another one: Ron and Hermione get together in future books, but when they do, Harry is overwhelmed by a strange feeling - jealousy. For some reason, he would not be able to stand seeing Herm and Ron be all "sweet" [can't really see them being sweet, but you know, they could do what couples do ] Harry will realise his feelings for Hermione, but would not be able to tell her because of Ron, and he is unaware of her feelings. In the end, Ron will see it before H/Hr confess and he will back away from destiny [either that, or he dies :evil: ]
And my last thought for the night: Obviously Harry and Hermione will be spending a lot of time alone together. And in one of those lovable H/Hr moments, we may finally get what all us Pumpkin Pie-ers have been waiting for, as Hermione finally gets her first kiss and Harry gets his *grumbles* second

Yeah, I agree with harry being jealous of r/hr. He already showed signs of jealosy(sp?) in OotP. Remember when he first arrived at #12, he yelled at hermione for them 2 being up there together while he was stuck at number 12. And after breaking up with hermione ron can be with luna

My own idea of getting the two together, would be for Harry to be with other girls, who are either brainy or spunky, but not with both personalities. Like, Cho is definitely a brainy one, being in Ravenclaw and all, but she isnt as couragous and spunky as Hermione. Then Harry would be with Ginny, who is spunky and couragous, but isnt brainy at all, two characteristics Hermione has and on which Harry has relied on through all these years.

Lame huh?... well my idea was to let Harry realize what he's missing when he is nt with Hermione and other girls are not what he expects them to be, since his idea of what a girl should be is his picture of Hermione. Did anybody got me?? I make a terrible writer, I tell ya.

Thanks phoenix, that idea is what I got when i started reading BK 5, particularly at that point when Harry invited *** on a date to Hogsmeade with him. Sooner or later , I thought to myself, Harry would realize that what he really looks for in a girl is right in front of him all this time.

I really really hope he does. He can't stop denying the signs anymore can he?

Anyway, I think he's finally seen how he feels for Hermione after he made no attempt to tell *** (female) that Hermione wasn't his 'DARLING'

This is how I see it happening.

I can see Harry and Hermione getting steadily close through 6 and 7, perhaps with some interesting situations thrown in for our personal entertainment
I think Harry and Hermione will realise before the end of 7 but just won't say anything because lets face it they're going to have slightly more pressing things to deal with NEWTS..staying alive! Harry is going to have to have this battle with Voldemort and providing he stays alive I think it will happen at Kings Cross. (not the voldemort thing the h/hr thing). J.K.Rowling has always thought of Railway stations as Romantic places because of her parents connections with them - meeting on a train, getting engaged on a train etc. So I think this might happen....


As they pulled into Kings Cross the three fell silent. Harry could hardly believe that he's left Hogwarts for the last time. It had been his home for the past 7 years and it had been a better home than Privet Drive had ever been. It seemed almost impossible that once they stepped through the barrier back into the Muggle world that was...it. They were fully fledged Wizards and free to go their own sweet way. Harry turned to survey his two best friends and knew they were thinking the same thing. With a jolt somewhere in his stomach he realised that this could be the last time he'd see Ron and Hermione for some time, maybe even forever. No, he would never lose touch with Ron and Hermione yet, it would be strange. He'd spent close to every single day with them and now he may only see them in passing on the street or at Hogwarts reunions if there were such things.

(ok..I'm going to cut to the chase now because this is getting very long. I could convert this into a fanfic)

Having exchanged final hugs and hand shakes with the Weasley family Harry turned to find his trunk and found Hermione sitting on it.
"Not thinking of leaving without saying goodbye are you Harry Potter?" Hermione grinned.
Harry suddenly found himself totally devoid of words. He wanted to say something, he knew he must look rather stupid standing gaping as he was but no words came. Over the past year he and Hermione had grown a lot closer if that was indeed possible and now, everytime he saw her or thought of her, he got this funny feeling somewhere between overwhelming happiness and thinking he was going to be sick that he had never had before. However for a moment that feeling was replaced by a terrible sort of ache in the pit of his stomach, a feeling of indescribable sadness.
"Well, I suppose this is goobye then." said Hermione, her smile fading.
"Suppose."
"You will keep in touch won't you?"
"Of course I will Hermione!" said Harry verhmently.
"Well, take care of yourself. Don't do anything I wouldn't do." They both chuckled at this
"Ditto" Harry smiled sadly taking one of Hermione's hands. "You've been a real friend Hermione, I don't know what I'd have done without you. Thank you."
"We still are friends, silly!"
"I know." Suddenly Harry wondered whether they would ever be more than friends but shook the thought out of his head.
"Well, goodbye." and Hermione did something she'd never done before and stood on tiptoe and kissed Harry on the lips. Harry smiled, and like the true friend he was returned the favour.

And from that time onward Hermione Granger became Harry Potter's girlfriend. There are somethingsone can not share without liking someone and a passionate snog session at the gateway to platform nine and three quaters is one of them!

Somehow I can see them coming to some sort of unspoken agreement. You know just reading it all in each other's eyes or something ....swoon!

Another way I can see them confessing is when Hermione is talking to the girls and they try to convince her that she's in love and she suddenly realizes she is. Harry is talking to they guys and he realizes the same thing. They run to find the other and bump into each other. Then look into each other's eyes.....the rest is hostory. I love it when there are people watching during a confession too.....ALOT of people.

I don't care how exactly they say it or come to the realization; as long as after their first kiss, Hermione says "I was right" and of course Harry won't get it and ask her "right about what?" and she'll say "I told you weren't a bad kisser." I don't know. Truthfully, the plot bunny bit me with this story idea once after I had watched this episode of Sister, Sister...I think he'd be helping Hermione win Ron over, because she thought she was in love with Ron.

During this time, they become closer and closer. Harry realizes that he loves Hermione and after Hermione wins Ron over, she realizes that she loves Harry. Now during the date, Harry is under his invisibility cloak, telling Ron exactly what to say. Ron then realizes that Harry loves Hermione and asks her what she thinks of Harry. She starts talking endlessly about him until he realizes that they love eachother.

He then gets Harry and they go on that date, and they live happily ever after! The end!

Hmmmm...I'll save my answer for my own fanfiction But, I like some of your ideas.

I really don't mind at all *how* they confess their love to each other... as long as they actually confess it!!!!

I can see Hermione confessing her feelings to Harry in the seventh book. And Harry would still be clueless. Ha poor boy. But Harry will figure it out, he's not that daft.

The scene I have in my head isn't a very romantic one. I see the Trio about to dive into some life-or-death situation in the middle of a battle in their seventh year, and Harry reaching over, snagging Hermione's wrist, and saying "You know I love you, right?" The only answer she'd have time for would be "Yes" or "I know." When the three of them stagger out later, Harry and Hermione have to sort out that split second admission, but at least now Hermione knows how Harry feels.

Ooh...Starwarsy...Anyway, I want something really, really cute and sweet...

On a silly note, you could always do the whole vegetable thing Tisty came up with, and have them confess their love like that

How about Hermione being invited by some other boys (TERRY BOOT maybe, the one who admired her for being brainy during the D.A. session) on a date to Hogsmeade, and Harry seeing them together , and see how Hermione prettilly interacts with Terry, stares at her, see her as if for the first time, tries to ask her for the second Hosmeade, but another boy has already asked her for it; then a third, and a fourth, finally, true to a Harry of bk 5 fashion, walks up to her and tells her straight, "WHEN CAN WE GO OUT TOGETHER, HUH? WHEN VOLDEMORT FINALLY KILLS ME OFF??!!!! I'VE BEEN WANTING TO ASK YOU OUT ALL THIS TIME BUT YOU'VE BEEN TOO BUSY WITH ALL YOUR BOYFRIENDS TO EVEN CONSIDER MY REQUEST!!!!

Then Hermione would be surprised and says< " Oh Im sorry Harry, I didnt know...But why wait for the next Hosmeade trip when we can go out anytime we want, we'll use the INVISIBILITY CLOAK IF YOU LIKE"...

Ok, its not the greatest line for Hermione, but hey, it would really be great to hear Harry opens up to his feelings for Hermione.

Personally,I don't think they'd confess it in words. Harry is not that good with words--especially toward girls.

I'm thinking of something like that, where Harry is I dunno where, and Hermione is somewhere with Ron- call it a date if you must- and she keeps worrying about him. And no matter how much Ron tries to change the subject Hermione keeps bringing it up and talking about him. And then Ron's like, "well gee Hermione maybe you should be on the date with Harry." (sarcastically) But anyways I see Hermione realizing it first!

I also like Lisse's idea as well. The whole idea of "you know I love you," right before Harry goes to vanquish evil makes me swoon! *bats eyelashes*
