MOD NOTE: Merging the Introduction, Rules, & Categories threads into a single thread, to help make room for the Poll threads later. ~gal-texter 7Feb2004

Greetings to all my fellow Portkey-ers out there sorcerer.gif !!! Hi, I am Mrs. Pepper, and together with my "partner-in-rhyme", ricelius, I would like to welcome all you wonderful people to the Portkey Poetry Awards biggrin.gif !!!

I'm sure at least a few of you guys out there are wondering how this came to be. Well blush.gif ...it all started with a thread i created 3 months ago, a thread for the submission or recommendation of original H/Hr-inspired poetry or songs. And since Portkey is blessed to have a great number of talented writers, my little thread started to grow smile.gif .

After a couple of months, ricelius posted a new topic on the "off topic" forum. Read it here. *CLICK ME!* And so...with the help of our fine moderators and the blessing of our outstanding administrators here at Portkey, ricelius and I soon found ourselves racking our brains for the guidelines for Portkey's first-ever poetry awards. *glows with pride*

So now you know smile.gif . Oh...before we proceed to the guidelines, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank, first of all, gal-texter, the super super-mod! She told ricelius and me exactly what we needed to do to get the attention of the administrators... post in the Administration forum!!! Thanks to NAPPA, Quis, and Heaven for their approval and support. And of course, thanks to all of our gifted writers here at Portkey...for their enthusiasm in sharing their talents with us. This is for you guys...

And now...on to the rules!!!

Alright, people sorcerer.gif !!! Here are the rules for our little poetry contest. Please read them carefully, and abide by them.

1) Submit your original poetry only. Modification of other HP or non-HP works is strictly prohibited.
2) Only one entry per writer is allowed in each category.
3) To submit a poem, fill out the template below and append your poem. Post entries in the SUBMISSION thread only, which can be found in this forum .

Please copy and paste this template:
CODE
[b]Title: [/b]
[b]Author Name: [/b]
[b]Category: [/b]
[b]Point of view: [/b]

Title: title of poem
Author name: your pen name, if you want something different from your PK user name
Category: General HP, H/Hr, J/L, R/L, D/G, or execrable
Point of view: Harry's, Hermione's, etc.

4) Use a new post for each submission.
5) General HP and execrable poetry can be about anything HP-related, as long as it's non-breaking (NOT R/H for instance).
6) Do not discuss entries in this thread; start a new topic in this forum instead.
7) Obscenities or foul language will not be tolerated. This goes for all submissions (including execrable) and discussion threads. In essence, common PK decency applies (no bashing of other ships etc.).

If you have questions, please post them at the "questions/suggestions" thread in this forum, and I, Mrs. Pepper, or my partner, ricelius, will answer them as soon as possible smile.gif . Now, off we go to the submissions thread!

Hello!

We have decided to create six categories for this contest. Each entry will have to belong to each of these categories, and authors can only submit one entry per category.

So, here goes!

Harry/Hermione
James/Lily
Ron/Luna
Draco/Ginny
These should be self-explanatory. Obvisously, there's one category for each of the Portkey ships, adding up to four different categories. So, if you want to write about Harry's cute eyes or Draco's sexy butt (or whatever), your poem will belong to one of these categories. Please note that you cannot submit poems whose ships conflict with one of these (no R/Hr for instance).
These four categories are independent -- but because of my laziness, I only wrote a single description for all of them. (Well, actually it was to save bandwidth so those with a low-speed connection won't have to download so much tongue.gif)

General Harry Potter
This should also be pretty self-explanatory. If your poem is completely shipping-neutral and talks about, say, S.P.E.W., or perhaps is a long epic about the Goblin Rebellions, it belongs to General HP.

Execrable
This, on the other hand, probably needs an explanation. This category is for poems that are written in an intentionally really bad way. In order to win the prize for this category, it'll have to be really horrible. Awful. Atrocious. Execrable. Yes, like the Vogon poems if anyone's read the Hitchhiker's Guide. Humor is greatly appreciated, but you need to somehow make your poem so bad it's funny. How you do that is up to you.

These were the six categories. To recap, everyone is encouraged to submit, but you're all limited to one entry per category.

Have fun!
