You should have a new file in the directory where the file is , and it should be something along the lines of (previous document's name ).htm or .html

Upload this file. It might not show the extention (.xxx) of the file, depending on the settings of your computer.

converting .TXT files to .HTML

Our Portkey-mate, Mistletoe shared this software that converts plain text (.TXT) files to HTML. Do note that we haven't tried this program ourselves.

QUOTE (Mistletoe)
You dont need any applications such as MS-Word to save text file as HTML. Just download this little application and it will convert the plain text files to HTML for you:

Text2Html

Free Software to make HTML files :
  • AbiWord : http://www.abisource.com/
Makers of AbiWord - a free program capable of reading DOC files and saving in HTML format. Avaiable for : Windows, Linux , QNX.

    NOTE: A PK-er has reported issues with AbiWord here. - gal-texter May2008

  • Open Office 1.1.1 : http://www.openoffice.org/
This software is pretty big at 65MB, but it should only be one nights ( 8 hours ) in a 56k machine. It makes the most compatible version of DOC files that can be read in Microsoft Office series. It comes with software that will be able to do Presentation, Spreadsheets and Word Processing. It has the ability to save in HTML files.

Available for Linux, Windows, and Solaris.

I just got a new computer, and it has "Word Perfect" and I can't find a way to convert the format to html that I can see... does anyone know how I might be able to convert it to html?

Thanks in advance,

Jessie

Well, depending on your internet connection speed you could download OpenOffice.org
http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.2/index.html 64MB
which is very similiar to the complete Micrsoft Office Suite. It's absolutely free of any charges and it lets you save your texts in HTML Format.
But I don't know a programm that converts Word Perfect files into Html files.
gal-texter
Try this guide too. If it doesn't work, NAPPA has always urged writers to email their chapters to him for conversion to HTML.

Jessie, please POST a reply here, so we'd know you've read this. We'll also move these posts to that other thread -- I've just reopened it for new replies.

gal-texter okay, I've read this, and I'll go and try it out now. Thanks for the help!

Mwaahhh! I beat Word Perfect 11. *sticks tounge out at it* HA HA! I have found a way to convert it to html in the system. And I am posting it now, just in case you guys have any cases like me...

Step One: On the left side of your screen you should have a little box which has things you can do in boxes. Such as, Start, Write a Draft, ect. The last box says Finish, press that box/button.

Step Two: That should bring you to a whole new list of objects of buttons/boxes, which include, Save, Update Refrences, ect. The second from the last one should be Publish. Press that box/button.

Step Three: A drop-down box should appear, which says, Publish to Html press that.

Step Four:A new box shoudl have appeared in the middle of your screen. One thing you may want to change (this is optional) is the place you want to put it. Press the little folder icon/button and change the place where is will go. Warning After you do this, I do not believe (I may be wrong on the matter) that you cane dit it, as If you have it on your desktop when you click it, it will bring you to the internet and show you the file.

Step Five: Upload it to your story and wa la!

--I think that is descriptive enough, if I'm allowed to I'll add pictures, if anyone needs any to help them.

MOD NOTE: We've taken up Jessie's offer. Read on for a screencapped guide! ~gal-texter23Jul2004

Issues with Windows XP SP2 Internet Explorer 6

I can't upload anything. It just keeps telling it's not an html file when it clearly is. I have MS works. I can't seem to get a filtered or compact html at all. open office won't do it. text2html won't do it. I don't have a html editor and I wouldn't know how to add or delete tags anyway. I emailed NAPPA my chapter, but I haven't heard back yet and I'd like to be able to post stories without having to email it someone and wait to have it converted. Any ideas?

Could that be the Windows XP Service Pack 2 Internet Explorer 6 Problem?
Try using a (different) browser. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/fir...tup%201.0PR.exe

Problems with AbiWord 2.4 (software) converting to HTML

I'm having troubles with uploading my fic. I converted all the chapters to Html but after the upload is complete, the italics all disapear and sometimes the quotations do as well.
I can easily fix the quotations by reuploading the chapter, but I can't upload the fic with italics. Italics are useful in the fic to seperate the flashbacks from present times.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Okay . . . I most definitely agree that italics are very important. But I need a little more information before I can start making educated guesses. Also, I'm curious why the quotation marks only disappear "sometimes." Computers are usually quite consistent in their failings.

Which version of which word processor are you using and how are you converting to HTML?

I am originaly writting is Word Perfect(but it doesn't have HTML), then I have to cut and paste onto Abiword (I got the program from this site). Everything is posted to Abiword perfectly and converted from there to HTML. It is not until I upload onto the site where I am having problems.

I think i figured out the quotation problem... I discovered that I have to keep the document opened while I upload, otherwise once I close Abiword and reopen the file the quotation marks disappear, but the italics remain in the documetn after closing.

No matter what i've tried I can't get the italics after uploading.

YAY I finally figured it all out. It's the program I was using to convert to html. Warning to everyone... DON'T USE AbiWord 2.4
