Media Idea?

I was thinking that you could possibly start a section dedicated to music vids/audio clips and their production. I know there's already a music vid section, although it's down at the moment. But maybe expand on it? Have a real "HHr Media Center" (or a general ship center for all the ships Portkey supports). Right now, fanart, vids, threads to song recs...it's all scattered about. Like there are vid recommendations in the movie category, song recs in the general HHr thread... Maybe have an entire section dedicatd to just vids and audio?

You could have a contest, almost like how some icon journals hold contests. What they do is post a lyric and someone has to make the most original icon with that lyric on it. Well, you could do it for videos, too. Post a song and see who can come up with the best. The winners could get a little Portkey Plaque or something. It could be voted on by either the visitors, in a poll like you did with the fanfic awards, or it could be privately decided by the people who run the section. whatever you liked!

You could build up an archive of HHr videos (many different versions and songs) as well as involving the community. You could have this for all of the different ships you support here. It would be 1 main section with links to "HHr," "G/D," "R/L," and "J/L."

The section could be divided into subcategories, like song rec's and requests, locally hosted video links and remotely hosted, the contests and winners, audio uploads, a tutorial section where people could learn how to actually make the vids and what software they would need, maybe some free software download links, and even a section that just talks about music vids and slideshows, where people can do general discussion on this stuff.

I have no idea if that would be something you could do, or if it would take up too much bandwidth (or if you even have enough people at Portkey to help design and run something like this!), but hey- it's an idea!

The above was a general idea, but the main idea i had was you could have a whole section of MP3 sharing/audio uploads.

I thought of this because I have a Tag-Board on my site where people can recommend songs they'd like to see made as HHr videos. But i rarely make them because I've never heard of the song and can't download it anywhere. If people could upload the music themselves, just as they upload a fanfic, so we could easily download it...we could probably make vids for them easier. You could restrict the uploads to zipped files, to keep the bandwidth and storage space down.

maybe it would be safer to allow them to upload only to their own user panels/control panels, so that people could download it from the person's "bio" page only? (like where we can contact people and see their avatars and stories and such). They could have a "favorite songs!" list, and you could limit it to 5 songs, or something, to save bandwidth. I'm not sure how it would work. I wish I knew more about programming!

Anyway, they could then, in the rec section, link to their fav songd...

"Hey click here to listen to some of my favorite HHr songs! Could someone make a vid out of one of these?"

...and people would be directed to that persons Bio page where they could download the songs.

Hope I'm making some sort of sense. I tend to be very verbose when explaining things.

Very good ideas you've got here, IMHO. Maybe we can even move the Movie Discussion Forum here. Remake this place into a sort of "Audio/Video Central".

I see Jessie's (Jessie' Flower) been promoting this section too. You're all welcome to post more ideas here. What content or sections do you want, suggested restructuring of the sections, etc. It would be wonderful for people to brainstorm first. We'll worry about mechanics or feasibility later.

My idea was as complex at Kate J's. BUt I was thinking for sections we could have a Wallpaper, Avatars, and the Audio/Video/Art things.

Maybe we could move the art threads over here, then I think more people may come over her. *shrugs*.

Initial question about hosting audio files particularly pop songs: any ideas how to dodge copyright issues?

But keep the ideas coming, people. We'll need lots of help, obviously. Final decision will rest with the Admins, of course. I freely admit I don't fully understand the technical and other aspects.

since NAPPA asked me to code this new media section I need some help and Information about how it should look like. I mean the general structure of the new media section. I will try to explain this to you as simple as I can.

• Basically, there is a piece of work that should be made public
  Like a picture, a drawing, a video, or an audio file and so on.
  This piece of work might have a title, a size, a format and things like that.
  I need a list of things that people might want to know about a certain piece of work.
  
• This piece of work belongs to one or more artists
  I also need a list of things that people might want to know about this artists.
  
• Then there have to be some categories to which our works belong
  Now, I also need to know how to categorize these works. We might make it like the rest of the site: H/Hr, D/G, J/L, R/LL, and General
  
• We also need to know what kind of media we want to host.
  People already mentioned possible copyright violations for video and audio files, so our admins might have to decide if we can host certain types at all.
  So, we need a list of media we'd like to see.

The quality of the new media section depends a great deal on the amount of Information we can gather here. The more, the better

I also heard people talking about media-recommendations. It would be relatively easy to clone the FanFiction Recommendation Engine and make a Media Recommendation Engine out of it.

Of course we're open to any suggestions you people might have.

What'll likely happen is that I'll move some threads, read some to get a feel of them, and see how they can be grouped. At this point, I'm inclined to copy the Fic Recs forum's format.
