Facade
Oct 3 2003, 07:48 PM
Alright I have been pondering this for a while. Why I never set up my own little thread just for me. As a newbie I was dense in the head and had no idea that this section ever existed. I'm sure most of the members have no clue either.
Anyway as I discovered it. I already had a ton of posts and deemed it unnecessary to set up mine. After all I am not a newbie.
So some months pass, my post number keeps on increasing, but yet I did not feel satisfied.
Why? I asked myself.
Then I analyzed over and over. But I yet had no answer.
So it occured to me why I was feeling
incomplete, per say, as I was welcoming another shipper upon our midst.
I remembered that no one ever officially welcomed me here.
It was then that I got a bit emotional. I felt I cheated PK tradition.
So here I am trying to make up for it in a sad attempt. I need some Mod to officially say to me, check out the rules and to hand me a slice of pumpkin pie.
That's all I ask. Is it too much?

I never bothered to Wrestle The Troll, either. Too lazy or too shy or whatever, I haven't quite figured it out.
Facade - all Portkey-mates would like to thank you, for always graciously welcoming newbies in this forum.
Why don't we make this the thread for Portkey oldbies who never bothered to set up their own introductory threads here? If you can think of a more descriptive Topic Title, post it here or PM me, so I could edit the one we have now.

Facade = 820+ posts
Kalie = 1300+
gal-texter = 460+
ratgirl = 70+
Sarcastic Dragonette = 200+
Facade originally put "An Oldie that NEVER got her PK Hug" and "*sniff* Where is my PK hug?" in the topic Title & Description fields. Let me swich and flick my wand at those fields now ...

There are no pumpkins in Singapore? We have them in the Philippines. Only they're sooo small, only about 3" in diameter. (Or is that what it is called?) We call them
kalabasa, taken from their Spanish term
calabaza. We only use them as ingredients in the entree. Not for pies or juice.
Btw,
Arnina - care to join us in our
silly thread? We're on a mission there -- to overtake Lori's Troll thread!!!

Pen, that's my nickname in RL (real life). But we won't mind if you don't give us your RL name.
Oui, I really hope I could visit Europe again! If Arnina set her 30th birthday as her deadline, then I'll give myself until my 40th birthday. I went to Paris 2 years ago, when I was 31.
Speaking of ages, you can browse (if you haven't yet) the "Horribly Inappropriate Question" thread on top of this Troll forum, to see how young and not-so-young our Portkey-mates are.
Paris is so beautiful! My siblings and I did a lot of walking, even if it was freeeezing. I mean, it was still above 0 degrees C. But my brother and I weren't used to that coooold weather, since we live in a tropical country**, where temperatures hit 10 - 35 degrees C.
** *points at left side of screen again* I know what
Arnina means about not being able to read foreign-language menus. See, on our 2nd night, we got back from Disneyland at around 10 PM. We walked around Paris downtown for 30 minutes to look for a place to eat. Problem is, we couldn't read the menus. So we settled for McDonald's instead. I kept shaking my head at the irony of eating ordinary McDonald's fare, when we were right in the land of fabulous French cuisine!
Sandra - yes, you really ought to travel sometime. It's a wonderful learning experience. You Americans are sooo lucky you don't need visas for many countries!
Bye for now (er, how do you say that in French? Adieu? Arnina, how is it said in Chinese?)
~Pen
PS
Arnina - I left another
note for you in that fanfic hunt thread
dupond
Oct 22 2003, 04:55 AM
Pen,
In french, you use "adieu" when you think you'll never see the other person again.
"Bye for now" doesn't really exist. I think the closest expression we have is "A bientôt".

Man... All this while I thought that au revoir was goodbye. Fells a little embarassed for all the au revoir I've said in my life.
So
dupond (you do know there's a MNC by the name of Dupont right? Made me smile when I saw your nick. Sorry...blame it on my chemical eng background.

), which part of France you are from? And is it like true that french men are the most romantic guys? LoL. I'm just curious.....
You seriously should check out the
Horribly Inappropriate Question thread. You would be surprise at the variety of age our shippers have. I was a little shock when I see the ages. LoL. And I thought I was old.

Yeah man...Made me feel a little jealous there. Better start using the priveledges soon.
Know what? I'm also guilty of eating McDonalds overseas occasionally. Foreign-language menus are fun to interpret but sometimes hunger just win outright.
Anyway Pen, I'm not Chinese. I'm a Malay. But I do speak Mandarin a little. Goodbye in mandarin is Chai che-ann. Pardon the spellings though.
I've read the note. I'll PM you once the fic sort of gets really interesting for me to rec it.
dupond
Oct 22 2003, 01:01 PM
Arnina, no need to be embarrassed, "au revoir" means "goodbye". We just have a lot of expressions to say goodbye.
I live in the north of France, near England. And Dupont de Nemours has an enterprise in my region (20 km away).
For the 'romantic' part, I don't think it's really my place to answer this, as I'm a guy, but I guess it's like everywhere else : some people are romantic and others are definitely not.

Yeah, I couldn't have put it better. We settled for McDonald's, after we've looked at 20 restaurants. We had no idea what their menus said, nor could the staff understand us (speaking in English). We were dead tired and stomach-growling hungry from our day's adventures, so McDonald's it was. But my brother missed eating rice!
| QUOTE (Arnina) |

Like French, there are many Filipino / Tagalog terms for "goodbye". I guess the closest equivalent of "bye for now" is sige. But that word means lots of things, too.
Sige, kitakits (that last word means "see ya" in Filipino slang)

Hi, I'm Perivayne, and I'm located in the US and I'm actually pretty new to HP fandom online. I enjoyed the books, but hadn't really checked out the forums/sites until someone recommended some fanfics. It went downhill from there...

I was pretty shipper-neutral as I read the books, but when I encountered some of the "agressive" shipping debates, I checked out the various positions to realize that I could see Harry/Hermione as a couple more readily than Ron/Hermione, so I found Portkey!
I haven't traveled outside the US except for Canada I'm afraid, but I've traveled a bit in my time!

Hope to talk to everyone again soon!
