Facade
Alright I have been pondering this for a while. Why I never set up my own little thread just for me. As a newbie I was dense in the head and had no idea that this section ever existed. I'm sure most of the members have no clue either.

Anyway as I discovered it. I already had a ton of posts and deemed it unnecessary to set up mine. After all I am not a newbie.

So some months pass, my post number keeps on increasing, but yet I did not feel satisfied.

Why? I asked myself.

Then I analyzed over and over. But I yet had no answer.

So it occured to me why I was feeling incomplete, per say, as I was welcoming another shipper upon our midst.

I remembered that no one ever officially welcomed me here.

It was then that I got a bit emotional. I felt I cheated PK tradition.

So here I am trying to make up for it in a sad attempt. I need some Mod to officially say to me, check out the rules and to hand me a slice of pumpkin pie.

That's all I ask. Is it too much? user posted image

*hands over to you a big slice of pumpkin pie* I know I'm not a mod (obviously), but welcome to Portkey! *hugs* You're a great addition to the site, IMO, Facade - and I'm not trying to flatter you tongue.gif

That reminds me *feels guilty* I got to set up my thread too *gives you another big slice of pumpkin pie* Hope you continue to enjoy your stay here! biggrin.gif

*rolleyes.gif at herself*
gal-texter
*hugs Facade and Sarcastic Dragonette* -- I'll hug you guys even if I weren't a Mod!

I never bothered to Wrestle The Troll, either. Too lazy or too shy or whatever, I haven't quite figured it out.

Facade - all Portkey-mates would like to thank you, for always graciously welcoming newbies in this forum.
Why don't we make this the thread for Portkey oldbies who never bothered to set up their own introductory threads here? If you can think of a more descriptive Topic Title, post it here or PM me, so I could edit the one we have now.

~gal-texter
Facade
It's the least I could do...

*blushes*

And I don't mind, other oldies as well can get their welcome hug here. smile.gif

If it means that I am contributing to the PK community.
Kalie
I'm a Portkey old-bie( December 2002, in fact )as well. I never knew that this forum exsisted until a few months ago *lol* Anyway, a big pumpkin pie belated welcoming to you!
ratgirl_84
*hugs Facade* Uh... welcome to Portkey... even though you've been here for a while, heehee. Would you like some whiped cream on your yum-tastic pumpkin pie??
Ya know, I never set up a welcome thread either... sad.gif

Heather

Let me put on record our posts count at the time we made this thread:

Facade = 820+ posts
Kalie = 1300+
gal-texter = 460+
ratgirl = 70+
Sarcastic Dragonette = 200+

Facade originally put "An Oldie that NEVER got her PK Hug" and "*sniff* Where is my PK hug?" in the topic Title & Description fields. Let me swich and flick my wand at those fields now ...
Arnina
Aww...another oldbie seeking her welcome hug here. And if possible the delicious pumpkin pastries that she's been hearing and drooling about. Well big hug to myself and all the oldbies. LoL. There is afterall 2nd chances in life to make things right.

You are right about that. Actually...I haven't even seen a real pumpkin in my life. How sad is that? And pumkin is our ship embodiment.

Actually...I haven't even seen a real pumpkin in my life.

There are no pumpkins in Singapore? We have them in the Philippines. Only they're sooo small, only about 3" in diameter. (Or is that what it is called?) We call them kalabasa, taken from their Spanish term calabaza. We only use them as ingredients in the entree. Not for pies or juice.

Btw, Arnina - care to join us in our silly thread? We're on a mission there -- to overtake Lori's Troll thread!!!

Do drop by, even if it's only to vote (for Facade!!! - hehehe),

I think they do have pumpkins here. Its just like what you describe. The small ones. But somehow I also haven't seen them around. Maybe should just make a trip to the supermarket to specially have a look at them.
Facade
*gives welcome hug to Arnina even though it is a bit late*

I never had pumpkin pie before. I feel so ashamed that I haven't. I guess that is one of my goals in life, eat pumpkin pie.

Anyway what are you trying to do gal-texter? Sway people to believe that I am the person who caused the corruption of leading a newbie's thread into off topic-ness? How dare... biggrin.gif

Exactly! sorcerer.gif

Besides, I need to brush up on my campaigning skills, for our mission/s in the Troll thread.
Facade
We already surpassed Lori in the longest Troll thread.

MUHAHA! We may now rest in peace. *grin*

Hi,
I've been a h/h shipper for a long time, but I had never posted.
I'm 26 and live in France.

Bye
Facade
Welcome to Portkey! I hope you enjoy it here and I am glad you came out of your lurker shell. biggrin.gif

*hands over a slice of pumpkin pie*

And you live in France? I would like to visit there one of these days...
gal-texter
Hi, that was a quick response! That is, if you came to this forum after seeing this post)

Feel free to join any thread. We've pinned some of the hotter topics on top of the forums.

Facade - yup, wouldn't it be great to go to France? I was very very lucky to visit Paris for 3 days. I wish I could go back to see more sights! It was such an adventure to be in a place where you couldn't understand the language.

See you around, dupond! Facade and I lurked for months ourselves. But just look at our posts count now hehehe! laugh.gif *points to left side of message box*

~Pen
Facade
Pen, you are so lucky to have visited France. I haven't even been outside the Americas yet! But I swear one of these days I will travel to Europe.

And people find it hard to believe I was a huge lurker once. *snorts*
Arnina
Hey dupond. Welcome to PK, the home of H/Hr shippers.

France huh? Never been there. But I hope to backpack through Europe before I'm 30. 10 more years to realise my dreams....

QUOTE (gal-texter)
It was such an adventure to be in a place where you couldn't understand the language.

Tell me about that. Me and my friends had a hard time relaying the menu when we were in Thailand. Up to now, I don't even know what was the content of the soup we drank. And I don't want to know...

Pen, so are you a gal or guy? Better change the little men you have there on your left. whistling.gif
dupond
Hi!

Thanks for your welcome. biggrin.gif

Gal-texter, I hope you can visit the rest of the country. There are a lot of things to see. And yes, I came here after seeing your post.
gal-texter
WARNING: LONG & BORING POST AHEAD!!!

Btw, Arnina, thanks for the advice re the gender thing. Oops! I changed my Member Title. I keep forgetting that the gender field reverts to the default "Male" answer whenever we edit our profiles.

dupond - You can call me Pen, that's my nickname in RL (real life). But we won't mind if you don't give us your RL name.

Oui, I really hope I could visit Europe again! If Arnina set her 30th birthday as her deadline, then I'll give myself until my 40th birthday. I went to Paris 2 years ago, when I was 31.

Speaking of ages, you can browse (if you haven't yet) the "Horribly Inappropriate Question" thread on top of this Troll forum, to see how young and not-so-young our Portkey-mates are.

Paris is so beautiful! My siblings and I did a lot of walking, even if it was freeeezing. I mean, it was still above 0 degrees C. But my brother and I weren't used to that coooold weather, since we live in a tropical country**, where temperatures hit 10 - 35 degrees C.
** *points at left side of screen again*

I know what Arnina means about not being able to read foreign-language menus. See, on our 2nd night, we got back from Disneyland at around 10 PM. We walked around Paris downtown for 30 minutes to look for a place to eat. Problem is, we couldn't read the menus. So we settled for McDonald's instead. I kept shaking my head at the irony of eating ordinary McDonald's fare, when we were right in the land of fabulous French cuisine!

Sandra - yes, you really ought to travel sometime. It's a wonderful learning experience. You Americans are sooo lucky you don't need visas for many countries!

Bye for now (er, how do you say that in French? Adieu? Arnina, how is it said in Chinese?)
~Pen

PS Arnina - I left another note for you in that fanfic hunt thread
dupond
Pen,
In french, you use "adieu" when you think you'll never see the other person again.
"Bye for now" doesn't really exist. I think the closest expression we have is "A bientôt".

Vincent
Arnina
Man... All this while I thought that au revoir was goodbye. Fells a little embarassed for all the au revoir I've said in my life.

So dupond (you do know there's a MNC by the name of Dupont right? Made me smile when I saw your nick. Sorry...blame it on my chemical eng background. tongue.gif), which part of France you are from? And is it like true that french men are the most romantic guys? LoL. I'm just curious.....

You seriously should check out the Horribly Inappropriate Question thread. You would be surprise at the variety of age our shippers have. I was a little shock when I see the ages. LoL. And I thought I was old.

QUOTE (gal-texter )
You Americans are sooo lucky you don't need visas for many countries!

Yeah man...Made me feel a little jealous there. Better start using the priveledges soon.

Know what? I'm also guilty of eating McDonalds overseas occasionally. Foreign-language menus are fun to interpret but sometimes hunger just win outright.

Anyway Pen, I'm not Chinese. I'm a Malay. But I do speak Mandarin a little. Goodbye in mandarin is Chai che-ann. Pardon the spellings though.

I've read the note. I'll PM you once the fic sort of gets really interesting for me to rec it.
dupond
Arnina, no need to be embarrassed, "au revoir" means "goodbye". We just have a lot of expressions to say goodbye.

I live in the north of France, near England. And Dupont de Nemours has an enterprise in my region (20 km away).

For the 'romantic' part, I don't think it's really my place to answer this, as I'm a guy, but I guess it's like everywhere else : some people are romantic and others are definitely not.

I also thought of DuPont the MNC when I saw dupond's nick.

hey Vincent, would you mind if I merge this thread with the "PK Oldies" one (which is pinned on top of this Troll forum)? I've just noticed that you've registered quite sometime ago. This thread will fit right in with the Oldies one.
I won't take offense if you do mind. You don't have to give me a reason.

QUOTE (Arnina)

Yeah, I couldn't have put it better. We settled for McDonald's, after we've looked at 20 restaurants. We had no idea what their menus said, nor could the staff understand us (speaking in English). We were dead tired and stomach-growling hungry from our day's adventures, so McDonald's it was. But my brother missed eating rice!

QUOTE (Arnina)
Goodbye in mandarin is Chai che-ann.

Like French, there are many Filipino / Tagalog terms for "goodbye". I guess the closest equivalent of "bye for now" is sige. But that word means lots of things, too.

Sige, kitakits (that last word means "see ya" in Filipino slang)
~Pen
Facade
Well I at least know that if I happen to be in a foreign country and I am hungry there is always McDonalds. Thanks for the tips you guys. wink.gif
dupond
Pen,
You can move the thread if you want. I just posted here because of your post.

Vincent
gal-texter
Okay, will do. Btw, you were quite correct in starting your own Troll thread. I just thought I'd merge it up there with us Oldies. thumbup.gif

Perivayne
Of course, some of us never scroll down far enough to realize we should post here first...LOL

Hi, I'm Perivayne, and I'm located in the US and I'm actually pretty new to HP fandom online. I enjoyed the books, but hadn't really checked out the forums/sites until someone recommended some fanfics. It went downhill from there...biggrin.gif

I was pretty shipper-neutral as I read the books, but when I encountered some of the "agressive" shipping debates, I checked out the various positions to realize that I could see Harry/Hermione as a couple more readily than Ron/Hermione, so I found Portkey!

I haven't traveled outside the US except for Canada I'm afraid, but I've traveled a bit in my time! whistling.gif

Hope to talk to everyone again soon! thumbup.gif
Facade
*Waves to Perivayne*

Wow...You joined like two days earlier than me and you just have five posts?!? Anyway here is a belated pumpkin pie and Welcome hug. *gives welcome hug and pumpkin pie*

You should post more often...

Hehehe, Sandra (Facade), obviously Perivayne isn't as talkative as we are. *hugs Perivayne*

Btw, you'll notice that I've just merged Vincent (dupond)'s Troll thread with this Oldies one. Here's how Portkey-mates can keep track of their moved posts.

See y'all around! Vincent, you might want to post in the Nicknames thread, too. Sandra and I joined in page 5. I think I've seen Perivayne post in there, too.

~Pen
Perivayne
I believe in "Quality in Posting"....rofl....Nah, really I'm a queen lurker extrordinaire on most forums because of some really BAD experiences I've had with fandom message boards previously, Facade, and it's sort of become a habit with me....Thanks for the welcome, though, I appreciate it!

Thanks also, gal-texter! biggrin.gif

You said it, Sandra --you said "some". Not "all", not "most". tongue.gif Of course, you could have meant either of the last 2.

Perivayne = you can call me Pen, btw. That is, if anyone can remember all our Portkey-mates' RL (real life) nicknames. wink.gif

Sandra, we've certainly come out of our lurker phase. And how! Though in my defense, half (or more) of my posts concen some Moderating matter.

~Pen
Facade
Well Pen, I intentionally said some as I didn't want to sound conceited if said all. We all can't be perfect all the time... tongue.gif
Perivayne
What? Me mock your posts, Sandra? Never!.....<snicker>. whistling.gif

To be truthful, I don't often post unless I'm saying something about a subject that I feel hasn't been said previously. It becomes annoying to read the same general remarks about a topic repeated ad nauseum.

Sure, Pen! My RL name is Anne-Marie...biggrin.gif

gal-texter
Hey, Anne Marie, I just saw your answer to the "Horribly Inappropriate Question". You've got nothing to be ashamed of, y'know. cool.gif I freely admit I'm 33. I'll bet Sandra couldn't tell my age, from the way I've been acting here in PK hehehe. sorcerer.gif

Sometimes I feel ancient when our Portkey-mates reveal their ages. tongue.gif But I often think and act as young (read, childish? immature? juvenile?) as some of them. whistling.gif

~Pen

PS. Btw, romulus lupin (he writes some of the best H/H fics and essays) is older than either of us. He's Filipino, by the way, just like me. He makes us so proud. thumbup.gif
Facade
I feel so young compared to some of the people here. I am only 14 years old.

But, I agree with Pen that sometimes its fun to not act our respective ages! LOL thumbup.gif

It's all right Pen, it's just some events have traumatized me so much that I feel the need to clarify what I mean at times. I guess you can say that I have been scarred for life( episodes in RL, don't ask).
