Since there have been quite a few bugs popping up in the Portkey Gallery, I thought it would be a good idea to start a bugs only topic here in administration for those who need to report bugs. The other topic will be for FAQ business strictly. (Mods, I've talked to NAPPA about this, if you think the topic should be moved, please PM me first so I can update links in the gallery...)

So, post your bugs and I'll see if I can fix them!
Known bugs:
  • There seems to be a problem with the 'server going down' about once a week. I'm currently testing something regarding this and we'll find out what's wrong. It could be something as simple as a permissions problem.
  • Some artists are having issues with the gallery upload pages. I'm going to be rewriting these to hopefully fix any problems there might be. If you're having problems, please report it anyway with your OS and web browser information (IE: Windows 2000, SP3 and IE 6.xxx.xxx where xxx is sub versions...) You can find this information by right clicking my computer then clicking properties (this will tell you the version of windows). In internet explorer and firefox (usually most software) if you click help, about you'll find the version information for your browser there.
  • I've had one report of someone not able to open popup windows due to errors. Please, if you try to do an artist/recommender reply and you get an error message instead of a popup window, let me know here. I might be changing how that works in the future if there is alot of problems with it.

If you're having issues viewing the full sized images, please give us the title of the image, the author, and the image id (if you can find it). You can find the image id in the url, if you're able to get to the detail view of the image in question, by looking at the number following the words 'viewDetails='. This will make it speedier for us to track down the problem.

If I didn't address the problem you have, please leave a message and I'll try to fix it! smile.gif

Hey, when I get to the art gallery page, I am not able to open up the picture. I can go to the comments page, and sometimes am able to reroute from there if they have a link to where their art is, but other than that, I can't view the picture bigger than the thumbnail. mad2.gif When I move my mouse over the picture to try and click on it, "Too Young To View Adult Content" will come up beside the arrow, but the one this is, is that I am not and half of them don't even half adult images. So, anyways, if you got any advice on this, please either email me, or do whatever you usually do.

I've emailed you as you've requested since I need a bit more information. I've edited the main post with the requirements I need, but I'll post them here again for completeness:

What browser are you using? What OS? Is it one image that's acting like this or all of them?

If it's one image, please provide us the title of the image, the author, and the id (if you can find it). The id can be taken from the url where the 'viewDetails=' segment begins. It will be the number directly after the equals sign.

I've had some problems with this code in the past and I thought I'd fixed it. Since that doesn't seem to be the case, I'm going to look at restructuring the code a bit to literally fix it at the source smile.gif
Excalibur
I have since decided to rewrite this code since I'm doing a major rewrite of some key features, this will go in with the next patch.

I'm still tracking down the bug that shows all the images at once, however... We'll see if I can fix that as well.
Excalibur
The report of one bug has been squashed.

amandioka had reported that she couldn't reply to comments. I've found the reason and killed the little unmentionable that was causing the problem smile.gif She reports artist reply works for her now biggrin.gif

That's one down, let's hope that Shayna4H/Hr doesn't have the age restriction issue anymore!
Excalibur
Yes, confirmation from Shayna4H/Hr that she can view the art now! Good, that's one less bug we have shipped off to fear factor!

Now, it's just a matter of time before I fix the server down error! We're investigating this as I type this (actually, NAPPA is checking on something that I suspect might be an issue...) We'll see wink.gif

I found a bug in the navigation. If you switch to the general no ship view right after going into the gallery and sort it. Then click the next button, to go to the next page. It brings you to the second page of the All gallery. I haven't tried it with the other combinations if it behaves the same but i'm guessing if it does or does not it could be an off-by-one bug.

update.

it does it no matter what. If you change the ship category and then sort. Then go to the next page it'll come back to the All index with that page number no matter what... online2long.gif

Thanks for catching this, I did confirm it on all the different combinations as well. I've had problems with this code since the url of the gallery changed from gallery.portkey.org ot www.portkey.org/gallery... I'm still trying to massage out all those little bugs like that and I'll put this one on my todo list for asap action.

I'll post here when it's fixed wink.gif Thanks again!

Er...maybe it's just my computer, but the comments aren't showing up when I click to view them. It just says "Guest" with nothing underneath it. Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone else is having the same problem.

Are you logged into the gallery? Being logged into the forum doesn't mean you are in the gallery. I just checked and aftger clicking on the comments:2 link on the main gallery page, I was taken to the comments section of the image in question.

How are you getting to the comments, where is the GUEST showing up? Is it being displayed above a textbox? If that's right, you're not logged in...

Yup, I'm definitely logged into the gallery.

I'm getting to the comments both by clicking the Comments: 2 (or whatever #) link beneath the picture and by clicking on the image thumbnail to view the image. The problem is for some images the number of comments on the link doesn't match up with the number of comments it actually has, and for a couple of pictures, it says that there was a comment left by Guest but there's nothing there (and I don't think the guest left a blank comment...).

For example: the first pic in the gallery ("Liam and Gareth") says it has 3 comments, but I only see two. The pic "Comfort" says it has 2 comments, but I only see the blank one from Guest. Above the text box I see my own username, so I'm definitely logged in.

I'm a bit confused. I'm trying to upload a drawing of mine, and everything goes quite well until I fill everything out, choose the fie and then click "Preview" at the bottom of the page. (Because the "Submit" button is faded out)

When I click it, my drawing appears in the thumbnail, and it loads but, before I can click "Submit" it redirects me back to where I came from, and when I click "New/Updated", my drawing is not there.

I tried it about a week and half ago and it didn't work, and I tried it just now and it did the same thing.

For reference, I'm on a Mac using Safari v 1.2.4.

Could someone help me out please? I'd really like to upload my drawings! wink.gif

Thanks!

I see what you mean. There could definately be a problem with the display of comments since we've upgraded the forum database. This will go on my bug list and I'll get to it when I can...

Thanks for explaining what you see wink.gif it made it that much easier to work with.

Ok, then Safar might just be the culprit in this case... Ugh, what the heck happened to web standard browsers?

I don't think there's anything I can do for the Mac/Safari issue since I neither have access to one nor do I have any urge to use one... If they have a version of Mozilla or Firefox for Mac, I suggest checking that out instead of IE.

Netscape also works fine for uploading from Mac OSX...

Also, I'm encountering the same glitch that rjade829 has been running into - disparity b/w the number of comments it says are posted versus the actual number of comments showing up. It says I have 9 comments, but only 6 are displaying...

Yeah, that's a bug that I'm tracking down due to the swap in forum software... I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but hope to have it fixed sometime wink.gif (RL gets in the way too much sometimes). So, it's not your browser but the gallery acting funny. You fix one or two bugs and then something else breaks... welcome to technology wink.gif

I tried to upload my artwork a week ago, but the server didn't allow the "Finish" button to be available even when I had completed all the required sections. I contacted NAPPA about this problem and I was directed to using Firefox, but even when I tried using Firefox I still cannot upload my art. I have a Windows XP and I was using Internet Explorer before I tried with Firefox. Could you help me figure out how I can upload my art? Thank you very much!

And again, I will ask you this: Do you click on PREVIEW first? Finish is disabled until you click on the PREVIEW button. Completing all the sections means nothing until that button is hit first.

I did click PREVIEW, but the same page reappears without showing the FINISH button. But I'll try again tonight.

Hello, I have been having problems uploading wallpapers.

I uploaded a drawing, clicked preview and I could finish the process, but with uploading wallpapers is different. I keep on clicking "preview" but nothing happens, so I cant click "finish" to complete the upload process.

I thought it might be browser compatibility, but I also tried with Mozilla and Internet Explorer. Any ideas what's going on? Should I just upload my wallpapers through the drawing form? Or is there a limit size to files? I think my wallpapers is quite big res and 450k.... maybe that's why.

I dunno if anyone had this same problem, but I just tried posting a new comment, and when my page refreshed more than 5 new comments from me showed up. Just wanted to point that out, so people don't think im spamming.

A search would have shown you that yes, it's been reported wink.gif I'm working on a newer version of the gallery and this issue will be fixed in that. There have been a few changes to the servers/software since the current version was created and I'm pretty sure that one of those changes nerfed something somewhere. The newer version will not have these issues (hopefully).

None of the fanart is showing up on my computer. I refreshed several times and tried other things, but they are still just showing X's. Is something going on?
Minlawc
Yeah, it's the same for me.

It's usually just pngs that don't show on my computer, but these are not png files.

It has been like this for a couple of days now.

There's something screwy going on. I'm not sure what, it looks like there's an issue with where the images are being held. The recced images are stored in a different place than the normal ones. Could be that there's some issue with the connection to the image storage.

I've notified NAPPA, we'll see what's going on.

I've tried the gallery in both firefox and Explorer, but it seems the pictures aren't loading(at least for me). They don't seem to be there at all. I'm assuming other people can see them, since there are view statistics for the pictures going up.

Any idea what might be wrong with my browser?

As you could READ just above your post, I've notified NAPPA. There's something wrong with where the images are kept and I'm not sure what it is exactly, if the server is down or if the folder we store things in got moved. NAPPA is the only one who can check it out and confirm what happened unless the gallery code changed somehow, which I haven't changed anything in it so that can't be the issue.

Like I said before, we'll look into what's going on.

Mod Note:

First off, very many thanks to Adam for posting links to this thread to help with the confusion. biggrin.gif However, because I've merged everything, they're no longer necessary. blush.gif I've moved the three (3!) separate topics in the administration into this, the Gallery Bugs thread--where they should have been posted in the first place.

By now, the gallery should be functioning normally. The file storage problem seems to have been remedied.

If there are any further bug reports related to the gallery, please look for a previous report first and then consider posting a reply in this thread.

That could be the issue, are you on a dialup or on broadband of some type? Chances are you're just having to wait if it's a dialup connection. 450k is kind of large for a jpeg, if it's a bmp, there's more processing that has to go on.

Yeah, on the homepage the link to "Become an artist" is ALWAYS broke as is the one to "become and author". Also, I have been trying to post my pieces for months now with no success. I try to upload the piece via the Add new/rec link and when I hit "preview" it always tells me the *file type is not correct....even though I am always uplaoding .jpg or other such approriate files.

I just want to post my artwork and I've tried for upwards of 5 months I have even emailed Bugs and submitted FAQ and such with no response. This truely is my last resort.

*Melissa*

P.S. I found a link for "Become an Artist" in FAQ, the very first post and so I provided the link for my piece and hit "submit" and I don't know if it work4ed because this is what I got:

I'm not an admin so I can't actually do anything to confirm things from the server end, but as far as I can tell, the gallery application system is still working. I have no idea who is (not) approving them, so perhaps you're just in a long queue.

As for the feedback you received, it's not exactly an error--more of a print_r debug statement. I can't reproduce your situation, much less attempt to fix it, so I suggest you PM Excalibur or ask him for help in an email.

Yes, the code above is actually debug code that hasn't been turned off. Your artist request has gone through and I'm unsure if anyone has approved you or not.
Now, if you have "Add New Art/Recs" you *should* have been approved because only approved artists can see that.
When it comes to uploading images, exactly what kind of images? If they are JPEG, are they JPEG 2000, Progressive JPEG or standard JPEG? Which browser are you using? Which O/S? If it's WindowsXP is it SP 1 or SP 2?

Sorry it's taken so long to reply to anything, I've been concentrating on my graduate studies and haven't had time to do much of anything other than read, write papers for class, and study for exams. Add my RL obligations to wife to that and my time gets eaten up pretty quick.

Just so everyone knows, I am working on a new version of the Gallery as we speak and hopefully it'll be faster, more intuitive, and actually work properly. Some classes that I've taken the past year have helped in my database design and coding skills so we'll see if we can't get it working properly once and for all.

Oh, the big changes? When you're approved/rejected/banned or whatever, you will receive an email or a PM, depending upon which the Administrator prefers.

Well, back to the design. Let me know about the answers to those questions. Basically the gallery only accepts standard JPEG images from the JPEG family. So that means no JPEG2000, no Progressive JPEG, etc. Just your vanilla, standard JPEG files.

I don't know which image you're talking about. I haven't heard of people deleting images at all. But then again, I haven't been around much this past few months or so.

The only thing I could imagine would be inappropriate material, you didn't give the server a chance to fully update & upload, or something along those lines.
