Recently, our Portkey-mate Orestes very kindly emailed me his copy of a very long compilation of H/H essays or "H/H evidence in canon" postings. While talking to him, I found another compilation.

In the spirit of re-focusing on things we like about this fandom, I'd now like to share these finds with H/H shippers. If you're an H/H shipper who's interested in these files, then please post here:
  • Your email address

  • Proof of you shipping H/H for at least 6 months now, such as
    -- URLs to posts you've made in our H/H forums, esp in our Essays and Theories forum. Here's how to get Portkey forum URLs
    -- link to your fanfiction profile (with your email address displayed) or fanart gallery uploads;
    -- other proof like membership in another H/H site or LJ comm.

  • Portkey mods (former and current) don't need to provide proof. Simply post here if you want a copy. I emailed a set to Marcella soon after I got Orestes' copy.

  • EDIT Apr 5: The POTM or layout team volunteers don't need to provide proof either!

  • NOTE that I reserve the right to:
    -- take my time in emailing copies,
    -- refuse to share them to anyone,
    -- stop sharing copies anytime.

  • Also, please don't discuss these essays in your own websites or LJ's unless you're referring to those you wrote yourself.

The first couple of restrictions acknowledge the reality that there are still people who comb our site for material with which to ridicule our members behind their backs. Besides, if you don't ship H/H then these files would bore you. You may only debate them if the shippers confirm that these files had been posted by the essayists/theorists themselves in our older debate threads.

From what I could tell, these files had been:

-- originally posted in cosforums.com's shipping threads in 2003 or earlier;
-- deleted from that site as early as 2004. I don't know why; perhaps it's to conserve database space.

Many of the people who had written these files have also been active in Portkey at some point, perhaps concurrently with cosforums. Some of them became PK moderators. I'm sure our Pumpkinpie's Army mods would recognize these essays. I'd rather not give more info for the trolls to pounce upon. wink.gif

I know that some of our members had talked about these compilations at some point here in Portkey, but I couldn't tell if the contents themselves had also been posted in Portkey. That's why I'd rather not open a Portkey thread for members to download and discuss these files. If their original writers wouldn't mind discussing them here, then that would ease my etiquette concerns of getting their permission. Do note tha

-- the longer compilation came from one or two Portkey moderators who had written some of these files;
-- many of those writers had encouraged 2003-04 era instances of these compilations being shared here in Portkey;
-- we've also been having other "lost & found" cases of tracking down missing sites, fanfics, comics, fanart and MEMBERS.**

**winks at POTM and layouts teams* Mum's the word for now. biggrin.gif

I would like a copy of the essays. It would give me something to read and maybe a point or two I missed originally when they were posted here. Thanks.

Okay, I'll send them to you guys by tonight or tomorrow. Some of them might have been posted in PK's essays sections, so you could discuss them there. wink.gif I wouldn't know for sure if they've been posted here as I rarely like reading essays and lengthy messages in fandom or in real life.

<-- always grumbled at writing school papers

EDIT 26 hours later: email sent
Scout
Thank you Pen.
I don't have a zip account so I can't access the bigger file, I'll have to see what I can do about that. huh.gif

Thanks again for sending them. hug.gif

Thanks, Pen. They're awesome for someone like me who wasn't around during the early days and would like to pick up a bit of the history back before fandom split into ships and descended into naval warfare.
I feel like an archeologist.

Thanks, Thanks.

You're like Case (Casey?), William Gibson's internet cowboy, who could maneuver well in the interstices of the internet and spot hidden patterns while trolling through raw data but couldn't be bothered with lengthy talks. That's right, you're PK's resident cowgirl. Hmmm...could be grist for a fic.

No probs guys.

Pam, try right-clicking on the file then select "Extract Here". I think zipping files (compressed folders) was built into Windows since XP. *remembers the old days when I bought a software for zipping and unzipping files* Back then, we had to split files to save them over tens of diskettes. biggrin.gif If you need more help, email me. smile.gif

EDIT: Okay, I've just reopened the file and saw that it's only one humongous word document -- 1.6 Gigs, 258 pages of size 8 fonts! I've emailed the word document itself to you and M and to Diana (phoenixwriter). biggrin.gif

Rene, I have no idea who William Gibson is. tongue.gif I argued with my business school instructors when they wanted us to submit thesis-length papers -- "In the real world, no manager would have time to read lengthy expositions in business or loan proposals. Succinct's the way to go!"
