Does anyone know what the Draco/Ginny ship is called? I mean we have thge HSM pumken pie for H/Hr and thron and buck for L/J but what is the D/G ship called? wink.gif dry.gif wacko.gif

MOD NOTE: Moving this from "D/G Shipping" Forum to "Prof Binn's Library" ~gal-texter 19Nov2003

QUICK REFERENCE:
what do "HMS", "SS", and "ship" mean
why Mai Tai & muffins symbolize the Draco/Ginny ship
HMS Muffin Love - alternate name for the Draco/Ginny ship

Stncold
theres a list of every ship name on fictionalley.org, dont got exact link for the thread
but the d/g ship is called the SS Fire and Ice
Sakura1287
WHAT DOES "HMS" MEAN??? mad2.gif

[lots of us are wondering that... whistling.gif ]
Stncold
HMS stands for Her Majesty's Service, which is what the British have as a title for all of their ships.

HMS stands for Her Majesty's Ship. wink.gif
Sakura1287
*bows down to the almighty Stncold*

Thank you! wub.gif

I have been wondering for AGES. I mean.. we use the SS Fire and Ice, and that's basically the same thing, so I figured it was something like that. But I felt dumb saying HMS, not knowing exactly what I was saying. blush.gif
Cursed4Life
Eh, whats SS then?
Faith Akiyama
Ironically, SS is the same acronym I use for my D/G site, Sugar'n Spice (I'm sure it doesn't stand for that, though). I had no idea! ^^

Haha...first time I saw "HMS" I thought it was "PMS" ^^; Sorry H/Hr fans!
E. C. R. Potter
"SS" is the title used on US submarines. I'm not entirely sure what it means but it could be "Submarine Ship". Of course, it might also be short for USS "Unites States Ship".

Eric
Cursed4Life
Hmm, so nobody knows exactly then, I'm guessing.
RyokoJesse
Meh. I dunno either, so is Fire and Ice a submarine? I'm so glad we finally found out what HMS means! "Her Majesty's Service".....hmmm.....nifty. biggrin.gif

I believe that it means "Steam Ship".

I tend to agree with Kerry. SS means Steam Ship. United States Ship would be USS. And now I can add HMS to my knowledge of the ship world, since I always made up what I thought HMS meant and it never made sense. Her Majesty's Service definitely differs from Home Made Soda... lol

Hey, Kaykos, sky is blue, MalfoyMyFerret (this forum's mods) -

I hope you don't mind if I pin this topic. I've been pinning the origin of our ships' names in their respective forums, for everyone's info.

Everyone, feel free to add comments, more explanations, violent objections, suggested alternatives, and wild speculations on ... tan tan ta nan ...

Why the D/G Ship is called the HMS Fire and Ice

Btw, here's more info on shipping:
Fandom Dictionary -- includes info on how "ship" and other terms acquired their present fandom connotations

And here's one I copied from Fiction Alley Park's SCUSA forum:
QUOTE
Ship Abbreviations: HMAS, HMS, SS, RMS
If you've been wondering what the ship abbreviations stand for, here's a guide:
~by plumeria of FAP SCUSA

There are three main abbreviations used here at SCUSA. Here's what they stand for:

HMAS: His/Her Majesty's Australian Ship
HMS: His/Her Majesty's Ship (Great Britain)
SS: Submarine (also Steamship)

I'm told that RMS, which was used for a few ships, stands for either Royal Mail Schooner or Royal Mail Steamship. However, this appears to be an obsolete title.
Sakura1287
Oh yay... thank you everyone for the info!

Haha..I always just pretended it meant "Here's My Ship:" LOL. whistling.gif blush.gif
gal-texter
Home Made Soda? Here's My Ship? Well, you've got more imagination than I have. smile.gif

RyokoJesse
I like Here's My Ship. It makes more sense in my mind, but then again my mind's pretty strange.... biggrin.gif

~Ryoko~
InTheStars
biggrin.gif Actually "Here's My Ship" does make more sense...

~Faith~
SamiJo
I chose to read the SS because I thought that it was meant for me "Sami's Ship".

Well it does make a really good ship the SS Fire and Ice

biggrin.gif Hehe.

So true. I love this ship wub.gif wub.gif ! I'm starting to feel like I'm supposed to be bursting out a show-stopping number now. biggrin.gif White Flag by Dido should do. *scampers off*

Here's My Ship...haha, classic yet sensible ^^

I don't really care what it really stands for, I just know that I SAIL on it biggrin.gif
frodofreak317
*whispers* i've been wondering...what is OC? *shrink* i feel dumb saying this... blush.gif
Panorama
OC is basically a character the author makes up. I'm not quite sure what it stands for...but I've always assumed it was "own charecter". But I've never really asked about this, so I wouldn't know for sure, I just looked at the two letters and assumed.
GinnyDragon
Who's fire and who's ice? I think I know but I need to check for the coloring on my drawing I'm working on.
InTheStars
Ginny is fire, and Draco is ice.

~Faith~
GinnyDragon
Thought so. Thanks. Now I can color it! biggrin.gif
Sakura1287
Haha.. the fire and ice reference can mean their personalities, OR their hair color! thumbup.gif

I can't believe I actually took the effort to make such a stupid post.

I lack the ability to draw humans. However, I'm fairly good at mythical creatures. So Draco and Ginny are dragons. If my scanner behaves I'll get it up.

In this case... yes. You're probably right. tongue.gif

OC is Original Character.
i just want to know what AU means... its been bugging the hell out of me!

i think the reason that we refer to D/G as fire and ice is because we all know that draco is cold, and Ginny being a red head makes her stereotypicly fiery. AND she's a weasley known for there fiery tempers!

everyone check out [URL=http://fictionised.net] it's cool, and i write on there... it just needs more members!

Yeah, it's funny how the fandom comes up with all sorts of acronyms, isn't it? AU is defined in this Glossary. I ought to include OC in there too.

*scurries to insert OC*

waffleprincess
aw thanks... i have been getting so frustrated not knowing what it meant! It really is amazing how many little words and phrases we have in out community of fanfiction!

Scrivenshaft
Can I just make a point to you all?

HMS = HER MAJESTY'S SHIP

Ship, *not* Service wink.gif
kazte
okay I get all those but I just wanted to know why are muffins the mascots of this ship

not that I don't like it...

but why

I read somewhere that they were like pumpkin pie to H/Hr but at least I know the story of that one, about Harry tasting like pumpkin pie

So I was just wondering if we (D/G shippers) have a story like that, like a fic or a challenge, in the "Round Robin 2" I saw a huge use od the fuffly pastry... is that why?, or that was just in honor of the D/G?

I don't think I made any sense i this post blush.gif maybe I did *crosses fingers*

Nousia
Ana - Muffins is not the mascot of the D/G ship, although I know Kristina, Faith, Ryoko, Michelle and everyone else wishes it was. wink.gif Actually, the mascot, or the symbol of the D/G is the Mai Tai.

Mai Tai - I'll have the D/Gers explain that to you.
Muffins - Go here. Again, I'll have the D/Gers explain that to you.

- Nitya, pipsqueak.
gal-texter
You know guys, I'm still confused about this muffins thingy. I know Sakura explained it a while back. But I'm still confused.

But then, who said you can pick only one symbol for your ship? Or name? smile.gif
Sakura1287
Yes, Nitya is right. It's not the mascot, but we deeply and spitefully wish it were.

The muffinfilms site is what sprung the interest in muffins, but what made them a psuedo-mascot is their role in the ultra-huge DLA fic that is currently being written.

Once we start releasing it to the public, you'll understand why we talk about them everywhere.

QUOTE
Mai Tai - I'll have the D/Gers explain that to you.

This was sprung from Cassie's fic, The Draco Trilogy. Draco's favorite drink is the Mai Tai.

I personally think that the muffin would make a much better mascot, since that fic is hardly centered around D/G.

But that's just my opinion. blush.gif whistling.gif

Thus concludes the history of the muffin.

Kristina

Edited because Pen always posts at the same time I do. tongue.gif

Exactly. Oh beautiful, loffly, wonderfully correct comment, Pen. I could kiss you.

Or not. wink.gif
gal-texter
Ah, so that clears up the Mai Tai and muffins mystery! Thanks, Sakura/Tina!

As for having more than one symbol or name for a ship, we H/H shippers have the same experience. Is our ship's name HMS Pumpkin Pie or HMS Harmony? Me, I prefer Harmony, but I don't mind the Pumpkin Pie name, either. biggrin.gif

I know HMS stands for Her Majesty's ship, and SS, I'm not sure.

But I know someone asked that question earlier in this thread, so check and ye shall find.
