Belated happy new year greetings to all! Did you pig out this holiday season? I sure did! biggrin.gif

Let's see now, Portkey's forums was started in Nov 2002, while the fanfic section started sometime earlier, I suppose. So that means PK's now 6 years old! Looks like we'll be around until the 8th HP movie at least. biggrin.gif

We mods strongly suggest that all Portkey-ers revisit the things we liked about our ships, this site and fandom. Whether it be reading fanfiction, making/looking at fanart or chatting with our PK-mates (about HP or not), let's spend more time on the aspects that please us than on the less pleasant stuff.

Also, let's encourage our writers and artists by giving them polite feedback. If you see a good fic or art, do leave a review and recommend it to our Portkey-mates!

Anent to that, we're looking to recruit more mods this year particularly for the fanfic team. We're glad to say that Pam (aka Scout) has accepted our invitation to join our mod team! *drum roll* :bows:

We expect to invite more active Portkey-ers soonish to the mod team, after we sort out other concerns. Here's to another fun year! mf_telletubbies.gif

Hey PK-mates!

I'd also like to chime in with Pen's Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a fantastic holiday and good New Year *toast* to a great year! It's lovely to see new faces and old faces joining Portkey and adding more to our flavour biggrin.gif
And Welcome to the team Pam!!! hug.gif Congratulations!

gal-texter
Yup, definitely, Hana.

Pam has hit the ground running! thumbup.gif

Just wanted to add: give your feedback NOW! Don't wait till it's too late. Don't wait until say, the writer abandons the site or fandom. Or much worse!

We're extremely pleased to have another mod teammate, Marion aka thewall28304!

We've also been playing with our user names' font colors. For now, we've trimmed it to red and blue -- red for admins, blue for mods. We play around with the hues from time to time. biggrin.gif
gal-texter
More mod recruits; kckaye and turkish! Jumpy.gif

I'd also like to reassure everyone that we haven't cut ties with some of our mods. We had simply put them in our "Guarding the Muggle Minister" (GMM) group in recognition of their need to attend to real life and other stuff. Three points about the GMM:
  • all people in it are welcome to come back to PK and the mod team;
  • each of the current mods WILL be a GMM member at some point; and
  • mods might shuttle to and fro between the GMM and "active duty" status.
Some mods (myself included) have already done some or all of the above before and after we came up with the GMM group name.

On a related note, we're not quite done recruiting new mods, esp for our fanfic team. biggrin.gif Stay tuned for further announcements.

Congratulations tongue.gif

Congrats to all the new mods thumbup.gif

Our Forum Team's nearly complete with Marcella's acceptance of our invite! rockon.gif We'd be recruiting more fic mods as soon as we write up more guides for them. smile.gif

Btw, you might've noticed some small changes made in the forums such as fonts getting upsized, different hues used, etc. We were only going to make the fonts bigger but we got carried away, hehehehe! Now before the younger PK-ers complain, pity those of us with less perfect eyesight. wink.gif I don't wanna end up needing glasses like Harry does! nerd.gif

We'd also like to wave hi to the oldbies who've logged in lately. :waves: I suppose you were forced to delurk (sorta) hideingbhindcurtian.gif after we've restricted guests' access to many sections? biggrin.gif Our initial reasons for doing so: a. to save on bandwidth; b. to give topic starters a better idea of who've been reading what they've said; and c. to possibly entice respectful lurkers to speak up! This later became a fourth reason.

Lastly, we've recently learned how to edit the board's Help files, so you might want to glance at them at least. smile.gif You''d see them if you click on the word Help on the top right of the forums, above your My Controls and __ New Messages links.

I'm happy with the new font. My poor eyes appreciate it very much. eek.gif Now I don't have to squint as much!
Poison
I like it.

My eyes sometimes can't handle the small font. Thanks Pen.

Besides, you younger PK-ers would likely know how to use your browser's zoom out / in feature, right? biggrin.gif

There might be some screens where the fonts are too big or too small. If you see them, please let us know what screens they are and what skin were you using at the time. I can't promise we'd know how to fix it (so many codes to look into!) but we'll look into it, time permitting.
Poison
I am confused :|

what do you mean?
gal-texter
Heehee, sorry!

QUOTE(myself)

The screens for PM alerts, member forum profiles, edit or reply windows, search form, report form, warn logs (seen by mods), etc might have very big or very small fonts. Their appearance could differ depending on the skin you use. It's hard to check each one.

For example, the member profile page has bigger fonts in the "PK Blue v2" skin than in the other two skins we've got. For other readers' info, this explains how to change the forums' look (aka skin).

I doubt that you meant the following but in case others are wondering about what I said here:

Browsers typically have the option to magnify (or de-magnify) text and images in webpages. Hit your keyboard's Ctrl++ (Ctrl and the plus key) or Ctrl+- (Ctrl and the minus key) and repeat as needed. To reset, hit Ctrl+0 (Ctrl and the zero key).

Or you can click on your browser's menu as follows:

in Firefox, go to View > Zoom;
in Internet Explorer, click Page > Zoom.

PS Thanks to Sue for that Ctrl++ tip and for her other work. Also to the techies who edited and uploaded the skins hehehe!
Poison
Oh okay lol! thanks!!!

Seriously helpful...

you're teaching me a thing or two biggrin.gif
gal-texter
There, our tech support have enlarged and darkened the fonts inside the quote box border too, like so:

QUOTE(this is what I mean!)

*points at box's top border*

That oughta make it easier to see who made which quote. smile.gif Of course, for best results, include the snapback arrow. "Snapback what?" you say? huh.gif Read this and the one that comes after it.
snoopy_pie
LOL So that is what is different with the forums!

I was trying to figure that out and then wham!! Okay its the font tongue.gif

Welcome to all the new mods! *waves*
