Hey there! As you can see, I'm faithful2thecall. I haven't been over to this side of the site since the horrible excuse for fan fiction that JKR tried to pass off as canon came out. Having only read the books once, I could have written a more believable and literarily acceptable conclusion to the series. I've stuck to the fan fic side since then. Some of you might have even read some of my work.

I don't plan on venturing over here much, but I came over to this side to do a little research for my version of Book 7 (that I'm editing the outline for). My research was on alchemy and how it was supposed to fit into the series (to see how I might be able to make it work with my outline), but I'm still fairly confused after reading a bit about it. Anybody care to enlighten me?

And for those of you who are interested in what is going on with my writing...I have four projects I'm working on at the moment, three of them are untitled.
  • the sequel to my debut "All I Want for Christmas" has only one chapter left to be written, then I have to proofread it before having it betaed. I still don't have a title for it.
  • I'm going to start the second to last chapter of "Tell Me" once I finish doing a little looking around on here. It will probably be the longest chapter of the story. I'm also tossing around a couple of different endings for it in my head--I might write both of them out and then decide which I feel fits the story better. I hope to have the next chapter up sometime this week, but won't make any promises.
  • My version of Book 7 has a finished rough outline, but I have to do some adding and editing before I have somebody look it over to see how I can touch it up and make it even better. I hope that it will come to be considered THE Harmony Book 7. Ambitious? Yes, but I'm going to try to live up to the challenges I've set for myself (more on that at some point in the future).
  • Last night I started on my first response to a challenge. It will be a long one-shot that I've been looking forward to writing for a long time, but had never gotten around to actually writing before. I started writing last night because I got struck by a fit of inspiration about the basic framework for the story. I don't know when I'll get it finished.

I always smile at how H/H fans, and Potter fans in general, continue to write fanfics and make fanart. smile.gif

As for your alchemy research, you can find the shippy theories here. There's a link in there for the non-shippy alchemy forum. I've been reading redshoes' fic, "After the Battle", and she's been kindly explaining her use of alchemy in that story. I understand very little of alchemy (and any literary analysis for that matter), but I appreciate her efforts. biggrin.gif She's the alchemy expert among the active PK forum-ers.

Thanks to both of you for your welcome backs.

I have been on the forum you suggested a bit. Your suggestion for the story might have worked, except since I don't acknowledge DH as canon I don't read any fan fics that are marked Book 7 Spoilers. I'll check that forum again at some point to see if I can better understand it.

A couple of random tidbits about me that some of you who have been around for a while might remember about me in regards to fandom...

1. I came up with the expression OBMDC (One Big Miserable Divorce Court) as a spin off of OBHWF.
2. To my knowledge, I'm the first author to have sent Harry to the Grangers (in my debut story "All I Want for Christmas"). After my story became a surprise hit it became the hip thing to do, especially for the newer writers. Part of the reason my debut was an unexpected hit was that when I wrote it I hadn't read the books yet. blush.gif

Well if you've read DH, then I recommend that fanfic because it repairs canon. That is, it tries to explain the OOC-ness in HBP and the H/G H/R scenes in the last two books.

If you haven't read it, I think you'd still understand the "Alchemy in 'After the Battle'" forum thread because redshoes talks about the significance of imagery and other symbols she had used. I'm not a big fan of alchemy or any other deep analysis of any literature, but it's refreshing to learn things like that once in a while. smile.gif I'll be the first to admit I probably only understand 10% of what they're talking about. laugh.gif That's not due to any shortcomings on the theorists' part but rather I simply am not astute or imaginative enough to pick up the remaining 90%.

Not to put you down, but when did you write that story? I see you've posted it in PK in Dec 2005, but perhaps you've posted it earlier in another site?

Again, I don't mean to be rude but I know there were stories like A Week With hermione (posted in 2003) and others. biggrin.gif However, it seems your take on this familiar plot was very well received, so hats off to you!

I might have to go check out that thread then. I haven't read and have no intentions of ever reading DH. Which is part of the reason I'm writing my own conclusion to the series.

I hadn't come across any fics that sent Harry to the Grangers before I wrote mine and hadn't noticed any posted before mine had been started since, hence the "to my knowledge" bit. tongue.gif And since I hadn't seen it written, it certainly wasn't a familiar plot when I wrote it. If you read my biography, you'd see that I started that story just after I came to fandom. I got the benefit of the doubt from the person who looked at my author application, and I hope I haven't disappointed them.

Hey man.

Actually, I remember you from way back in the day...biggrin.gif
The fact I've been absent from PK for a while is entirely separate...tongue.gif
Welcome back!

I see your point. smile.gif One nice thing about fanfics is that we get to see many takes on similar plotlines. I'm all for creativity.

See you around!

I agree. A number of stories that I've really enjoyed since I posted my first story (including "Movie Night at the Granger's" by canoncansodoff, "Their Way", and "Vox Corporis") have been set (at least in part) at the Grangers'.

Agreed. I really enjoy the Granger's house place. I've read some fantastic fics. And I enjoyed it loads!
