I'm not sure if there's been similar topic earlier..At least I didn't see one. (And if there's already one feel free to curse me and ignore this post)
Anyway, I want to share this information with you guys! I know you'll love it wink.gif
I came across kabalarian Philosophy web page (http://www.kabalarians.com/) and I made their Name Analysis- thing.. And I found it quite accurate! smile.gif

Draco

The name of Draco has given you sensitivity and appreciation for the finer and deeper things in life. You can enjoy reading, study, and contemplation about many different subjects. When your interests or curiosity are aroused, you work intensely at new undertakings, but your interests often wane when you encounter drudgery and monotony, with the result that you leave many things unfinished. Your name has taken you into many bitter experiences. The greatest lack in your life is stability and peace of mind. A peaceful and quiet environment, especially out in nature, is one of your greatest desires, but you are constantly taken into chaotic conditions. Because you have high ideals and are a principled person,
you have been disillusioned and disappointed in people on many occasions and have experienced much aloneness. You are fond of outdoor sports, where you can find an outlet for your nervous energy. Impulsiveness could bring frequent accidents and unfortunate happenings into your life. You do not like to be restricted or to have your freedom curtailed in any way. You find it difficult to control your thoughts and could swing in moods from one extreme to the other. Your speech can become very critical and sarcastic when you are frustrated or crossed.

Ginny

Your name of Ginny contains many fine qualities: musical and artistic ability, good business judgment, and a sense of responsibility for the welfare of others. This makes you warm-hearted and understanding in your response to the needs and interests of those around you. You are always ready to help those in less fortunate circumstances. Your insistence on becoming involved in the affairs of others can cause them to regard you as interfering, even though you are only trying to help. A weakness lies in the fact that you are deeply affected through your feeling for others and could suffer through worry and disturbed thoughts over matters that you can do nothing about. While you have an appreciation for the finer things
of life and could be successful along inspirational as well as business or professional lines of endeavour, there is a tendency to become involved in the needs and interests of others to the detriment of your own progress. Home and family are important to you and you desire to establish a settled home environment where you can enjoy the congenial companionship of friends and family.

I just found out something really interesting from my mum... Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus the school motto, means Never tickle a sleeping Dragon. Therefore Draco means Dragon, making him a kind of firey character. I wonder if his father names him that purposely?

And Virginia means Virgin that kind of makes her innocent and everything. And has everbody noticed how Diagon Alley, if you put it together makes Diagonally...And Knockturn Alley spells Knockturnally, which means something that lives by night. THerefore giving it the whole dark and evil aspect. It's actually quite ingenious.

Big clap for J.K Rowling for introducing those, kind of makes sense don't you think?

I knew that Draco meant Dragon but I never thought of Diagonally and Knockturnally... that is quite creative. thumbup.gif

It's kind of like that phrase, what was it again? "Let Sleeping Dragons Lie" It sort of implies, like you said *baby ice*, that Draco is a volatile character. Lots of people don't think he's dangerous and that he is all talk, but it's a little scary if one considers the implications of that phrase then Harry should be very, very careful around Draco Malfoy, even if he does indeed believe that he is just "all talk."

That's pretty cool! Yes, JKR has deep meanings for everything. wink.gif

J.K Rowling uses many historical and astronomical names and phases in her story. Not only is Draco derived from dragon in Latin, but it is also a star. Virginia means the Virgin Queen. Which fits, because Ginny is the girl in her family. Parvati is a Hindi goddess, and Minerva is a the Roman goddess of wisdom. I've researched all the names interesting in Harry Potter, and all have come from famous points in history or describes the character. But one thing I'm suprised is that she has not used the name Adrienne, which means Dark One.

Sassychic807
Has it been confirmed that Ginny is short for Virgina?
RyokoJesse
jadespinnet, I can agree with you about the name Adrienne, but I have good news! The DLA (group creating the Draco Malfoy Series) is using Adrienne as a character's name! thumbup.gif Just thought I would say that. And another thing, the devil was once an angel named Lucifer, sort of akin to Lucius.

Back to the original topic, I always liked that motto. Did Dumbledore come up with it? Does it say anywhere where it came from?

~Ryoko~
Sakura1287
That was ironic, Jade.

Isn't it Adrienna, though? In our fic, I mean?

Same meaning, though.

I always thought the saying was interesting too, I wonder where is came from. The names in HP are funny like that, they always seem to pop up when I am learning things in school. About Minerva being a roman god, I saw Remus in my European History book somewhere... it's crazy.

Duuuuuudes. Someone answer my question! haha innocent.gif

That is soooo true. I don't think (correct me if I'm wrong) that Ginny has ever actually been referred to as Virginia. Hmmm....
Ineresting....

Hmmm.....I dont think so either, though I've heard of people referring to her as Ginger in fandom. Whether that person considers it a nickname or a real name and Ginny's short for it, I dont know. Just 'Ginny could have been on her birth certificate too, if you think about it, but normally someone named Ginny's real name is Virginia, because there aren't many others (or maybe any others?) that fit with the nickname Ginny.

~Ryoko~
Sassychic807
Hmm... I guess we should offically name her Virgina in fanon, until JK says otherwise. haha
Saint-Seducing Gold
This isn't actually canon, but in the movies' screen credits, Ginny was listed as Virginia "Ginny" Weasley. Hope that provided a little more evidence. biggrin.gif

And as for other names besides Virginia that Ginny could be a nickname for, there's Genevieve, Guinevere, and um...Jennifer? Don't mind me, I'm just clutching at straws here...

I actually did know about the motto matter, since my Latin-efficient, Draco-obsessed friends informed me since the first time the phrase appeared in the books ^^; Quite interesting, isn't it?

There is much speculation that the ultimate ending of the Harry Potter series will have something to do with that motto...in other words, Draco will play a major role in the last books. What the role may be, no one knows (Yet). But I do hope that he'll be reflected as somewhat of a positive character in the end ^^; (As dim as that glimmer of hope appears right now).

As for Ginny's name, J.K. Rowling has never called her "Virginia" or "Ginger" in her writing, but like Sassychic, I did see Virginia mentioned from the credits of the film. Maybe her real name is completely different and has a deep meaning, or maybe...she's just "Ginny."

"I'm Ginny. Just Ginny."

"Well, 'Just Ginny,' let's see how we can change your name to having a more seductive, I-can-make-Draco-drool tone, shall we?"

Haha... thumbup.gif Random dialogue mumbo-jumbo from me ^^;
