Forum Restrictions on Private Messaging (PM); Email; Replying to / Reading Topics in Certain Sections:

PK oldbie = has been a PK member for 6 months or longer
PK member = has joined PK's forums or has been uploading fanfics or fanart in PK, or who has been leaving signed reviews in our fanfic side
.
.
.
    REMEDIES for PK oldbies:
    .
    .
  • If you're a PK oldbie whose above privileges have been disabled, then please post on this thread so that we forum admins could enable your permissions asap.

  • If you're a long-time PK author who registered in the forums less than 6 months ago, then please state in here your user ID number in the fanfic section. It would help if you've been uploading fanfics for at least 6 months by the time you make your request.

  • If you're a long-time PK reviewer who registered in the forums only recently, then please give us your user name and ID # in the fanfic section and direct us to signed reviews you've left, preferably 6 months ago or older. To assist us in finding that old review, do give us the fanfic URL and your fanfic user name AND copy and paste your entire review, including the date you had posted it. You can track your review in users.portkey.org -> User Panel -> Review History.

  • You could also try asking another PK oldbie to vouch for you. We'd expect them to confirm you've been in PK for at least 6 months. For age issues, see if you could get them to tell us that they're convinced you're of legal age, and we'd expect them to give us their reasons for thinking so.

  • You could also try whichever remedy for PK newbies also applies to you.
.
.
REMEDIES for PK newbies:
  • We would strongly consider enabling those privileges sooner for your account, provided that your request gets backed by people we trust. The latter include:

    -- a Portkey oldbie, preferably one who is or was part of our mod teams;

    OR

-- an SCQ** admin or SCQ mod. Ask them if they can put in a good word for you. If you don't know what SCQ means, then you obviously can't avail of this solution. wink.gif

**SCQ is practically a sister site of PK's, considering many of their members and mods are also members and mods here in Portkey. But they have their own admin / mod team and their own set of rules, and therefore it's entirely their prerogative to vouch for you or not. biggrin.gif

Watch this space from time to time in case we'd expand our list of trusted people or websites whom you could ask to vouch for you.

    EDIT Nov 2009:
We will also strongly consider enabling many account permissions right away for longtime members of H/H sites like the harryhermione LJ community. Best for you to give us the URL to your approved request for membership in there.

If their mods granted you membership 6 months ago or longer, then we'd usually enable oldbie privileges for you here in Portkey. In fact, we've done that for some PK newbies without them asking for it. smile.gif

Hi,

I wanted to post a new topic in the "Writing Tips" section, but I get the messege that I don't have permission to write there. No idea why. confused1.gif

gal-texter
Fixed! Thanks for the FYI.

That wasn't an anti-trolling measure; I simply forgot to enable that. You're not the first person to have told me that I make that kind of mistake sometimes. biggrin.gif
Candra
No problem. Thanks for your help. thumbup.gif

*points at your use of the word again and at your post count* Your post count presently stands at 1, which means you've never replied to or commented on any forum thread before. Neither have we encountered a record of you leaving a review in our fanfic or fanart sections. That's why your permissions haven't been automatically enabled as we don't have sufficient basis to judge whether you're a troll or a spambot or whatnot.

Don't take that personally; we used to have very little restrictions but that's been abused repeatedly in the past. Some people have made it their mission to mock Portkey members, with a number registering for multiple accounts.

I've got quite a few PK tasks to catch up on so I might not have enough time today to look more closely into your case. My co-admins have RL issues at the moment.

At any rate, you could still post in most other forums. That "you have no permission to post" (or to read messages) only applies in a few areas.

So I decided to come back after, forever and almost a year, finally finished high school and have a bit more free time. True I wasn't the most active poster on the forums (lol 3 posts?) but perhaps that was because of school...

Anyways, I was wishing to request permission to enter into the RoR (because we all need a bit of smut sometimes :3) and alas, my poor ignored account cannot access it. And thus I was wondering if you could help me or maybe you'll say I should stick around and post more, either way an answer would be wonderful biggrin.gif

Oh and quick question, when searching for fics on PK are you only limited to those 4 categories? (H/Hr, R/L, etc...) I'm in the mood for some H/L ;3

How old are you? In my country, people finish high school at ages 16-17. That's too young for the ROR.

PK was put up to support H/Hr. It would never accept fics or art that would (ultimately) contradict our main ship. Here's more info about the site especially in the "New to PK?" section down the page.

I'm 18, birthday is..actually in my profile, and I'm currently in University.

acecow - We've expanded your posting permissions. You'd now need to post the age declaration statement in the "ROR goblet" thread.

Well, your forum account's only 5 months old but we've looked over your posts and they're all harmless, so we're waiving your 6th month of waiting time.

Just to clarify though: you actually do have permission to post in the Dan-Emma section but previously, you needed to wait for PK staff to display your message. Now you don't since you've proven you're human and that you're not here to troll.

On a related note, could you tell me what's your account name and number in fanfiction.portkey.org?

-----

FYI to others: we often waive the residency reqt on other grounds too, but I won't list them here lest the trolls and spammers abuse them.

I'm trying to request access to the ROR, but apparently I'm in the "never posted in the forums" group. I've been around for a while, though -- here's a review from July '07 and my forum account is over 6 months old.

Just starting writing, too: http://justfics.net/poh/pfeil_poh_00-02.pdf

Hello,

I have been trying to ask for a ROR Pass but it will not let me reply to the thread. I get the -Sorry, you do not have permission to reply to that topic. I am twenty and have been a portkey member (www.portkey.org), username ailishmckechnie, since about 2003, with 35 reviews submitted.

Can you help resolve this?

I would really like to be able to read the forum at ROR.
