Well, then it's not much I can do about it.

This is LupinTonksMoodyFan.
I deleted my cookies, and only afterwards noticed that I forgot my password.
No worries, I thought. I just click on the link "forgot my password" and get a new one.

No such luck. Typed my name in, typed the six numbers, and got to the "an error has occurred." Then it said that they couldn't find such a name. So I rechecked. I went into my registration mail, copied the name just to make sure I got it right and posted it. Same reply.

Tried to contact an administrator. Needed to be a member to send PM or Mail. Unless one uses Outlook Express, which for some reason never works for me.

So, I made a new account, but couldn't PM or message anyone, so I had to do it here, though I assume multiple accounts are not approved. I've seen my user profile, but I cannot retrieve my password - the name is not known, it says. Is my account gone because of the deleted cookies?

Regards, LupinTonksMoodyFan

I thik the admins can acess usernames. One of the admins will probably get back to you on this.
InShame
I appreciate the quick answer.

I hope they do too, so I can just wait now, can I? Or would they send a new name to my original e-mail adress?

Anyway, thanks again.
Fire
Oh no not at all - don't worry - I didn't mean it like that smile.gif Do you have your registration mail? I can't remember how it looks but check if there's a different username and display name. But it seems like you've already checked. Yes, I'm sure they will get back to you thumbup.gif Hang in there smile.gif

I did re-check that, actually. Both links eventually led me to this message:

The error returned was:
Sorry, that member does not have to validate their account. Please double check the data you entered. If this validation isn't recent, it's possible your old account has been removed.

Nothing more to do now than wait, then?

This is very strange. I copied and pasted your Username LupinTonksMoodyFan into the member search engine and it shows that your member username is still valid and active.

Maybe you just put the wrong password in at the sign in screen? Try using the "forgot password" option and see if you can get your password to reset and try to log in with the temporary password sent to you and change it when you are able to get logged onto your account.

That is what I've had to do before on another website when my system crashed and I lost all my favorites and forgot my own password to one of them. blush.gif

See it this might help. Let me know if it does or not but I really hope it does for you.

Good luck.

I tried that as a last resort, but sadly it failed (due to my inability to write down the correct username).

Now I've sent a PM to one of the admins. I can't do anything else.
Adam
I have sent you an e-mail with instructions on how to access that account. It has been sent to the email account you registered the PK account with.

Regards,
Adam, Portkey.Org Admin.

Thanks for the help.
I did get a mail which told me that my password had been reset.

So I went back to re-do the entire thing, but failed. I just cannot remember my username. I was so sure I had it correct, I even wrote it down, but the log-in doesn't recognise it, despite that I followed the case sensitive rule.

Is there anyway for the admin to recover my former accounts username and send it to the same address?

Regards, LupinTonksMoodyFan

P.S = Sorry about the constant.. what do they call it, whining? I'm aware I put myself in this mess. blush.gif

The only way now that I can think of to get the use of your old username back *which is still showing as valid and working in the members search when it is done* is to have the admins zap the account and have you sign up again with the same name, when the name has been cleared off the active member list.

That is what I had to do a long time ago on a different website when I was an admin and something went wrong with a member's account during an update on the servers. Though that was years ago and so I'm not completely sure how things are done now since a year of real time is about 7 years of tech advancement so I am practically a dinosaur in tech terms now. I have forgotten a lot due to lack of practice. *sighs sadly*

So, you could have the same username but technically it would have to be a 'new' account as far as the forums go though.

That would be the 'last resort' type of solution though if you can't get the account to work like it is supposed to and you've exhausted all attempts at access and resetting the profile's password for login and all that other jazz.

Ask the admins about that option of deleting and remaking the LupinTonksMoodyFan account and see what else can be done.

I hope it helps.

I'm aware of this and will fix it later on tonight (01/09/2008). Can't do it now as I'm stealing time online whilst at work!!

This should now be sorted and you should have e-mail again.

Adam.

I wanna say a big thanks to everyone who replied and tried to help me out. You've been a great help and I appreciate it.

I'm finally back online, and hoping to remain as such. biggrin.gif

Glad it all worked out for you. smile.gif

Pen, I am locked out of both of my accounts. This is making me very very sad sad.gif sad.gif I hadn't even touched my Sue account and I can't get into it. I think Portkey hates me. I am running out of email addresses to register with!

You should also allow brand new members to be able to PM admins, because it is frustrating having to post a topic instead of emailing or PMing!

I'll talk to Nappa about your orig acct. I'd rather not allow newbies to use PM's because that's the first thing many trolls have abused. AFAIK, IPB doesn't allow us to select only a few (e.g., Admins, Mods) to receive PMs from everyone. To compensate, we did enable the Validating group's ability to post here in the Help Desks.

---------- EDITED Feb 5 to clarify wording --------------
gal-texter
I've IM'd NAPPA. I'll also send you our email addys to your orig yahoo acct.
gal-texter
I edited my initial reply to make the wording clearer. Have also sent you & Adam an email.

Nappa usually IMs back asap but this time he's been on "Away" status for days, so I'm guessing he's been sidelined by his injury. Poor guy. sad.gif We'll figure out something by this weekend and would probably have to call on TM's techie skills too. Anyway, we've enabled PM and email privileges for this account, but it's better that you use your yahoo email to contact Adam and me.
gal-texter
I've just gotten an email from NAPPA; have cc'd you and Adam in my reply. Check your orig email addy.

EDIT DAYS LATER:

Okay, apparently our board software (and/or installed modifications) locks out an account automatically when there are too many attempts to change one's password or email address, or when there are some changes in the IP address used by the person making the change. Perhaps one of those had caused some problems reported on this thread. We've added a warning to some screens unregistered users see, and we've also edited our contacting our mod team Help page.

EDIT MAY 1 2009: I'm moving this now to another forum. I need to lock it to prevent spambots from posting replies.

I think that's because your computer's default email client is Outlook Express as set in your browser or control panel. Anyway, emailing us through the "Contact Forums Administrator" link would be the least reliable way to get in touch with us, as we've noted on that above-linked Help page. To compromise, we've recently allowed members who get locked out of their forum accounts (after changing their email addresses) to post here in the Help Desks.
