There's always so many threads on Draco, but I thought, hey, this is a D/G board, so why not talk about Ginny too!
With that in mind, I thought it would be nice to figure out who our favourite Ginny is in fanfiction.
I have to admit I found this one hard. I really don't like Evil Ginny or the Bad girl Ginny, but I do really, really love feisty Ginny who's strong but kind, and really give Draco a run for his money.
However, I also love shy Ginny, who's clumsy and bashful, and somehow stumbles her way into Draco's heart. It's a pity those ones aren't written so much anymore, because they were always so adorable.
Anyway, share your thoughts!

Lets see.
My favorite Draco/Ginny Ginny is in a story called The Heirs of Hogwarts. She's fiesty, emotional, and very real.
My favorite Harry/Ginny Ginny is in This Means War. She's one of the few Ginny's who I can believably see with Harry.
My favorite Neville/Ginny Ginny is in Bobmin's fics Sunset over Britian and Sunrise over Britain. I think she's actually my favorite Ginny ever. She's such a believable character. She's a great extention of book 5 Ginny. She's gotten over Harry, really come into her own, and is fiesty, compassionate, and strong.
Basically, I like a Ginny who is fiesty and passionate. She is somewhat more emotional than Hermione. She stands on her own, but she doesn't outshine Hermione. She's smart, but not brilliant. She's kind and compassionate, something we didn't see in the later canon Ginny. She tends to rush into things, and her temper often gets the better of her. She's very much a family girl.

Star22 your Ginny sounds pretty much like my absolute favourite Ginny!
I too love her when she's strong yet compassionate, intelligent enough to give a witty retort without stealing the show from our favourite bookworm, and very much passionate and quite emotional (but not in the soppy, "I'm gonna cry all the time" way).
I also love a Ginny that has a lot of quirks. Real people have quirks, and I really like it when people explore those in their characters. Ginny seems to get some of the best I've noticed, which is always fun. It's great to see a girl that can do something ridiculous and just take it in her stride.

I love a Ginny who can hold her own, and who isn't afraid of hanging out with the guys. With the number of brothers that she has, she'd certainly be able to throw a mean punch, pull a good prank, or come up with a witty retort.
And I love a Ginny that has a temper, because that makes her dealings with Draco volatile, and we all know how fun that is to read.

But then I also like a Ginny who's shy and klutzy, because it makes for the best fluff ever - quiet Ginny takes mean old Draco completely by surprise.
Although, that being said, I do also find Ginny compelling when she finds herself fascinated with Slytherin machinations. I think the best example of this brand of Ginny is written by LadyRhiyana on FF.net.

^ i agree with you turkish. i love Ginny who can hold her own when it comes to guys, definately growing up with that many brothers has to rub off on her, and so really shy Ginny is a bit of a ...cant think of another but than contradiction...but hopefully you know what i mean.
Too shy Ginny is too wimpy for me, its cringe-worthy, i hate stories when she is seen like that because i feel queasy and i physically can not read any further than a few paragraphs into wimpy ginny.

Lol, I find them cute, when they're done right of course. You used to get a lot of them when only CoS and PoA were out. Ginny hadn't really showed how fiery she could be then.
I agree though that she needs to be able to hold her own. It would just be silly to have her being a crying sap all the time because she has so many brothers who would have drummed her into being a tough one.

when they're done right then they are normally ok to read but when they go wrong...they go horribly wrong and i end up wanting to beat my head against the computer desk. lol

hehhe, I've had that feeling. There was a time where every D/G fic I opened was just awful. I think I almost cried (literally) that there was nothing to read that actually made me want to go beyond the first page.

Yeah I usually don't like her too soft or anything, unless she's written well.
Though I do like a Ginny who's flustered by Draco. It's cute, because here's the girl who's usually fiery and loud-mouthed, etc, but when she finds Draco she's finally put in her place. Kinda like a reversal of the usual situation - bad boy Draco meets his match in Ginny, y'know.

Yeah, it always seems to be that way. I tend to have a balance with my characters I've noticed. Though in some of mine Ginny gets her way more than Draco. Hehe.
Ginny is great when she's feisty and more than usually quirky. The weirder she is the more I like her.

A Ginny who talks to herself is comedic gold!
Also, I was wondering...do you see Ginny as a petite, or more of a tall, athletic type?
ALSO, congratulations moogle on being made mod!

I tend to switch. Sometimes she is petite, and then sometimes she is tall and atheletic. In general I see her as short and petite though. I also enjoy a Ginny who talks to herself

THANK YOU TURKISH!
Hopefully we can liven things up too. I rely on you all to help keep things going. Also, if you have any suggestions or whatever for the forum don't be afraid to tell me, and I'll see what I can do.

I like to have a petite Ginny who kicks butt at Quidditch...the best of both worlds.

I've read some fics where Ginny doesn't know which end is which on a broom, and those made me cringe.
Yeah I've been MIA lately, what with finishing up the term...but now that summer's here I can focus on reading and writing fanfiction, and being sat here for hours on end!

Hooray for D/G!

Oh yeah, I think it's obvious that Ginny does know how to handle a broom. I don't quite understand why people make it differently.
I haven't had time at all for fanfiction because of assignments. I've had so many essays and stupid things like that due. You're lucky you're on break. I have about 4 weeks to go

I'll tell you a Ginny I really don't like, is when people make her too whiney and weak, and have her crying all the time because Draco didn't talk to her, or because Harry didn't look at her.

Oh yeah, or when she's sobbing all over the place because she desperately wants to be included within the Trio, and so doesn't really have any other friends.
moogle
May 18 2008, 09:56 PM
Haha yeah. I admit, I've had her upset about not being included by the trio for my fic "Twisted', but that was a necessary facet of the plot that needed to be there for it to make sense.

As long as there's a real reason, then.
I like it when authors explore Ginny's friends outside of the Trio...though that can be risky, 'cause it's so easy to venture in Mary Sue/Gary Stu land, as we have to either come up with our own characters, or somehow flesh out those random characters that Rowling introduced but never expounded upon (that sort is ripe in Sorting scenes).
I find that I like to play up Luna as much as possible, I think she's the perfect foil to Ginny.
moogle
May 20 2008, 12:21 PM
Luna is great I agree. She's that quirky girl I love to have with Ginny. I find that I don't really explore Ginny's friends at all. Only in a few fics do I actually have them mentioned at all, and very rarely do I go into detail with them. My plots don't really need her with lots of friends though, lol.

I've read one of your D/G fics! And I absolutley LOVE LOVE LOVE them!! Truly amazing, I read "A Stroll In Your Shoes" OMG! It's absolutley amazing! Yeah sorry offtopic but your fics are..WOW!
Ok, I like a fiesty, compassionate Ginny but who can get flustered around Draco. But she can stand up for herself and defend her friends and others. She's petite smart but not brilliant. But she can be shy too and she will cry when somethin sad happens like when Bill got bittten *coughcough* but she wipes it away but she can cry but not bawl.
I love Luna!

Everyone had that quirky girlfriend introduce Luna

You can't help but love them!
I also see Ginny as petite but a very good chaser! hahaha talking to herself lol!

Haha, thanks! It's nice to know my fics are appreciated

Oh yeah, I think Ginny is very openly emotional. Out of all the main girls she seems like the one who would cry when she is upset. Hermione has always been a bit more calm and reserved in that way, but Ginny seems like the passionate one who can't quite control her feelings.
You gotta love a Ginny who talks to herself. Gives lots of fun possibilities with eavesdroppers

Hehe, sounds like you've got them covered.
Oh, I'm glad you pointed out the Love potion thing. I know not everyone loves Ginny as a character (and there were times in the books where I did not like her myself), but thinking that she would use a love potion to get Harry is just a low blow. I don't think Ginny is the type of girl to use a love potion on anyone.
By "DeniesIt!Ginny", are you meaning her not accepting that she likes Draco?
turkish

I love it when Ginny denies that she likes Draco! What girl hasn't been in her place before?
