I thought that part was so sweet, I was so happy when I was reading it! I knew she wouldn't die, but I loved how Harry was so emotional and worried about her! it's a side we don't get to see as much as I would like to.

I hope Harry becomes more violent, but thats prob b/c I want him to be like me. But I would love to see him attack people who piss him off. It would be absurdly wonderful. Hermione wouldn't talk to him anymore tho, so I guess I don't want that.

We have James to be violent. Harry can stay peaceful, like he is now

Me need violence. I absoleutly loved his attitude in the 5th book! (minus all the snake-voldemort possessed stuff) He was finally showing all his corked up emotions, which, coupled with all the hormones and stress, made him seem more realistic than ever.
dreamin_athena
Aug 23 2003, 10:01 PM
I guess it did make him a bit more real. No normal teenager would stay peaceful through all that. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I agree with you En Shu.

Yeah, you go on telling urself that...
I don't really like taking part in violence, just the thought of it I find exilerating. But I haven't been in a fight since 3rd grade

!
I laughed my butt off when Harry attacked Draco. That was sooooo funny.

Okay, I'm laughing like crazy now...extension cords? Anyway...I don't think Hermione would be turned on by violence, she does say that she doesn't like fights in PS/SS...

Butt replacement surgery is no laughing matter, Athena. It costs a lot of money

Now! Here are the way I see things in the Harry Potter universe:
Harry is the general. He's the calm head, quick witted, and dare I say it, most powerful wizard out of his classmates. He showed he could think on his feet when he instructed his comrades to shoot the, uh, things with the prophecies on them in the DOM.
Hermione could be called the strategist. Unbelieveably intelligent, she can figure out a solution to anything. POTIONS in SS/PS!
Ron seems to be the sidekick, except he's not very pround of this. He'd rather be general and have all the glory. What he doen't understand, however, is that all the things that have made Harry what he is are eating Harry alive from the inside out.
So that's my analysis of the trio in warfareish terms, and remember....... hero gets the girl.

Aug 23 2003, 10:27 PM
Lol...I loved the part where Harry yells out Hermione and Ron---the whole time, I was like, "That's right, Harry. Who has done all those things? You. You're the man!" It was kind of funny...anyway, have you all read the Harry's Dream/Firebolt symbolism thing? In this theory, the Firebolt symbolizes love...I was just thinking it could also symbolize something a little more private of Harry's...

Being poor students, my boyfriend and I *literally* read the book together, and he was giggling at me all through that chapter - when Hermione got attacked I squeaked and started to cry, and then when it was clear that Hermione was *not* The Dead Person I was reading and muttering under my breath "bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch, JKR you are a bitch....". I was so unbelievably scared that Hermione was going to be the one to be cast off - and by the looks of it, so was Harry |
I have to say Hermione's near-death was the most charged scene in the book for me. I was sure...absolutely sure...that we were seeing the death of Hermione and the birth of Dark!Knight Harry (I hate to make an analogy to Batman, but tell me you don't see him going that direction, sans vigilante status and kevlar, if she is ever killed or demented). When she was alive, I was so relieved. As for angst for book six, I have the suspicion that Hermione might not be completely out of the woods; that Dolhov did some sort of permenant damage. It's implied she would be dead if the guy hadn't whispered the spell. But we'll see.
PS.: I am planning on writing a fic in which Hermione is demented, just to play with the effect on Harry.

Ooh! Oooh!! Ooooooooooooh!!! I know! I know!
(Okay, actually, I don't, but that's not the point.)
Anyway, here's my bunny: Hermione's injury in the DoM makes her, like, I dunno, weak or something, so that she can't handle much physical activity, and Harry's always asking her how she feels--if she needs help--totally (for lack of a better word) fawning (in a nice way, of course) over her, offering to carry her books, and completely over-reacting when she hurts herself--even if it's something like a simple paper cut. OH!! Paper cut!
| QUOTE |
My finger slipped against the corner of the [book's] page, neatly slicing the skin open. "Ouch!" I exclaimed, immediately sticking my finger in my mouth to dull the pain. Predictably, Harry was at my side, rolling off questions a mile a minute: "Hermione! Are you OK? What happened? Do you need help? Do you want me to take you to the Hospital Wing? Do you--" "Harry," I said firmly, cutting him off. His protectiveness, while cute at first, was really getting on my nerves. I showed him my finger, explaining, "It's just a paper cut." He sat back down, his face slowly going red. "Sorry," he mumbled. I rolled my eyes. "Harry, you've been doing this since the beginning of the year. You really need to stop. I'm just fine, and I plan on staying that way." "I can't help it!" he muttered, and I just looked at him. I mean, I LOOKED at him, using my patented 'Hermione-glare', the excuse-me-what-d'you-mean-you-didn't-finish-your-homework glare, the one even Ron wasn't immune to (which can't be attributed to my lack of trying), the one that Harry had once said would stop Voldemort dead in his tracks. A sheepish grin spread over his face, and I laughed. "Sorry, Hermione, I'll try to stop, I really will," he said. I laughed again, and ruffled his hair, ignoring the urge to tangle my fingers into his silky locks, and grinned right back at him. "I know you will," I told him affectionately. We stayed that way, grinning like idiots, until Ron found us half an hour later. |
Alright, so that needs a helluva lotta tweaking, but I did just make that up right now ....
Now I need to go write a fanfic just to be able to put that scene in it!

OoooOooO! Intersting points
Kamen! It could be possible. Ah...poor Harry, on top of everything elses that's happening to him.

Of course, we can't foget...JKR does everything for a reason...and it's a curse we've nver seen before, so it might have a role in later books.
And great snippet

Actually, it said that the spell would have done MORE DAMAGE if the spell was said out loud. Hermione was in danger as much as Ron was. That is to say, they were both out of commision, leaving Harry alone to fight the last fight.

Ah. Yes. I guess I overexagerated there. But in my mind, she was already unconscious and completely immoble, when she woke up she had to take a ton of potions and was experiencing serious pain in her chest -- so, more damage would only get her closer to death. As far as I'm concerned, she was pretty close already. I'd argue that Hermione was in more danger than Ron. He was just temporarily Confunded. They had to check and make sure Hermione was still breathing.
