Well I tried to leave the fandom, I really did. I didn't respect JK Rowling after the way she humiliated us. It wasn't enough for her that we would be wrong.. no she had to talk about anvils and stuff and rub our noses in it. I didn't want to be part of a fandom that celebrated the work of that woman.

I didn't even like the characters anymore anyway. Harry wasn't the character I had built him to be in my mind and neither was Hermione. It took me a little while to appreciate why.

Like so many little things.. Hermione being a bad cook or being afraid of heights.. we had actually grown the characters, here in the Harmony fandom, to be different to what they ever were in JK Rowlings world.

After several months of struggling with this I realised that's not really a bad thing. Yes our characterisation of Harry and Hermione were different from hers, BUT, ours is much better.

Sure plenty of people loved the way she wrote the book, and maybe my view has been tainted by the fanfiction I've read. But honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I still like the Harry Potter that exists in the fiction here on Portkey far better than the one that ended up existing in Her work, I like our Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Neville and Luna better too. In fact I like our authors far better than I like her any day of the week. She may have invented it but we perfected it (IMHO).

So I'm back. You probably still won't see much of me on the boards, but I'm reading the fanfiction again and who knows maybe one day I'll write some more of it too. Only this time instead of drawing my inspiration from her work I'll be drawing it from the amazing authors here on Portkey.

Sorry for this cheesy intro, but i really enjoy seeing you oldies coming back. Recently there hasn't been much other than trolling or repeat sequences of common debates. It gets boring after some time.

Oh welcome back! I completely agree with everything you said ladylaughalot. I am not much in the Harry Potter world as much as I used to be. I blame alot of that not on the books but on JK Rowling.

Still I can't help but drop by every so often and enjoy reading wonderful essays and fanfiction about my favorite characters.

I can't say this enough, but the Road Ahead RPG in LJ is simply wonderful. It's post-DH RPG, but it takes off directly from the Great Hall of Hogwarts. The epilogue has been disregarded so that characters could grow and develop in a more natural environment. Please check it out. I guarantee that you'll love it.

'Sokay. Yeah, PK-ers have been great in greeting returning PK-mates. This "Welcome back to PK" forum has been doing much better than we had expected.

As an admin & a PK-er, I'd like to say: keep it up, greeters! I only wish we had the board software option to give out awards again for PK-ers who've done a lot to make PK fun.

[PK TRIVIA ALERT!] Many of you would've gotten something similar to the one for the Troll Wrestlers Army (TWA) in 2004. Those PK awards were popup windows that could be seen by clicking on an "awards" link on the left side of our posts, under the member #. Too bad I haven't saved any screencap of it, though.
