Hello,
I hate writing introductions, but I figure I'll try. I'm Jennie, twenty-one, currently residing in Germany. Joined up at Portkey around when it debuted, but then fell out of the HP fandom for awhile and just now am making it back. I'm pretty sure I had a forum account, but since I can't for the life of me remember what it was, and I don't have the email address anymore, I figured I'd just join up again.
Harry/Hermione was my first HP ship, and my favorite. I've been around the HP fandom since early 2000, and while I leave at times, I always seem to be pulled back. Back then, I was a die-hard H/H fan, and didn't like any other ships. Now I have a fondness for weird Hermione pairings (Hermione/Tom, Hermione/James, Hermione/Salazar), and there are only three girls I don't like to pair Harry with- Ginny, Tonks and Cho. But H/Hr reigns above them all.
I'm sarcastic, optimistically pessimistic, have a very morbid sense of humor, believe in magic, somewhere between legally blind and blind, a Chemistry student with aspirations of going into forensics, a writer, a reader, introverted, loud-mouthed if you know me, extremely quiet if you don't, a fan of Star Wars, Power Rangers, DC comics, His Dark Materials and many more things besides. I've written in oh, thirty? fandoms, but haven't posted in that many. If I like a book/movie/show, chances are that I will at least look at the fan fiction. I speak English, German and Latin. Had a smattering of Ancient Greek in school and want to learn Spanish, Italian, Hebrew (both modern and Ancient), Sumerian and Aramaic. I sing and play piano and flute. I'll listen to nearly every kind of music bar Techno and its derivatives and rap. I like the idea of animals and kids, but am skeptical of having my own- though I have given thought to getting a lizard and in a year or so after I complete cane training, I want to get a guide dog. I'm the oldest of seven kids. Each of my parents has been married three times. I can't stand nature, preferring the big city and the view outside a window than actually going out and being confronted with things like bugs (which I have either a general disliking (bugs that don't bite) or an extreme hatred (bugs that do bite)).
I also procrastinate. I have too many ideas to know what to do with them. I tend to write, post and then never finish a fic, which is why I'm sort of taking a break from writing in any fandom until I can decide on one fic to start and see to the end.
I don't mind Draco/Ginny or Ron/Luna, but my interest in them has waned somewhat. I prefer to read fics where Harry and/or Hermione are the central characters. I do read Lily/James fics on occasion, but not as much as I used to.
I prefer darker fics with complicated plotlines. I don't mind and even really enjoy certain cliches, but I can be very picky when it comes to grammar and the overall believability of a fic. Fics where Harry is the heir to a couple of magical families- fine. Fics where Harry is the heir to the four founders, Merlin, Morgana, and five others besides generally get a raise eyebrow from me and a back-button. Same with grammar- typos I get. But your vs you're is a pet peeve, and there are a few others that drive me nuts...
Fluff is good in moderation and sometimes I go searching for fluffy one-shots when I need cheering up/distracting. Generally, I'll try everything at least once.
Anyways...can't think of anything else that you'd need/want to know. Feel free to ask, I'm generally pretty open when asked about things. And nice to meet you all!
-Jennie
