Well, Moogle has declared that discussion is needed. So, discuss! Fly, my pretties, fly!

I love Love LOVE fics where Draco is conceived as a bad guy but really is a good guy at heart

Specially if the author makes his character show his true self slowly...and readers realize how unbelievably sweet he really is. because of the fact that he doesn't really know how to show his emotions makes the times when he does even more special. PLUS I love when he becomes that way just for Ginny

It makes the whole story extra special. 'Cause its like he changes just for her because their love is really special. Oh gosh now I'm all giddy. I think I'll go read a DG fic now.

I chose him as good deep down.
I like Draco when his flaws are admitted. He's spoilt, arrogant, rude and obnoxious. He is mean to people that he deems below him, and he can be very cruel. But I also believe that he can be very kind and loyal to those he does care about. That is the Draco I love. The one who can be a jerk, but still show he cares in his own way.
Fics where Draco is suddenly best buddies with the Gryffindors and off to be a philanthropist for every tom, ######, and jerry just makes me cringe. I want him to be who he is, because that's why I like him. Same with Ginny. I don't want her to be perfect; I don't want her to be the good girl gone bad. I want her to be the feisty, spirited girl we know and love.

I like witty Draco

Witty Draco is awesome. He always seems to come out with the funniest lines too!

I'm writing a witty Draco, and basically just...glossing over the crazy family thing. Is that bad? For the record, my Luna Lovegood is also ridiculously OOC -- she's hardcore!

I think as long as it fits your plot you can make the Malfoys however you like. As long as it seems believable for your world I couldn't care less how the characters are

Sweet, I hate it when people get all anal...it's fanfiction, after all! If you want canon, read the canon
moogle

Hhaa, I'm gonna have to agree with that. I mean, the point of fanfiction is that you can take two characters, put them in whatever plot you want and no one can do anything about it. If I wanted to read picture perfect representations then I'd just go read the books.

the only thing I get really anal about is spelling and grammar

I'm easy to please!
anyway, to get back on topic (my bad), I love witty Draco, but then I also love darkly snarky Draco

I absolutely adore arrogant Draco, because then witty and snarky just seem to fall into place with him anyway. He's such a horrible, but loveable jerk

My favorite is always Dark!Draco (coughICDracocough) but I can also go for HeWasOnlyABullyBecauseHeWasYoungAndImmature!Draco, akin to that of Draconis and Ginevra.... *thinks of that, her favorite D/G fic of all time so far, and swoons*

I think I've read that one..... *thinks*
What's it about again?

Is that the one with the sad ending? Sad endings make me sadface

I do like an IC Draco, but I also like to think that he can be IC as far as being witty and snarky, and still be somewhat more easygoing and charming than he usually is in the canon.

Re: Draconis and Ginevra -- the fic which is HP!Canon crossed with Romeo! And!Juliet. Single most IC!D/G fic with Good!Draco that I ever, ever read.

I started reading it again after seeing this thread, and yes I have read it before. It is quite good.

In the first few books, he was bad. He was misdirected by his family but sometime during HBP he saw the light. But he really couldn't turn away from his family so he put up an act to make himself look like he was still bad.

I don't know if I'd ever say Draco saw the light. I think he was just scared, which is a natural feeling for a sixteen year old being told to murder a powerful wizard. By book 7 he was still scared, but he didn't want to be doing the things that had seemed so glorious. It was his fear that disillusioned him, not really any 'good feelings'.
At least that's how I see it anyway.

I agree with moogle.
And I never thought Draco was ever inherently bad. It was his upbringing that made him treat others so badly. And even then his antics were normal school bully antics, not necessarily signs of someone who would want to take the Dark Mark. And like all kids who try to act tough, fear unseated him.

I agree with moogle and turkish. Draco has always seemed to be more concerned with his own self-preservation than the complexities between right and wrong. He just realized the severity and fatality of the situation in the last book and he did not want to die, first and foremost.
Like Dumbledore said, Draco is not a killer, but nor is he a saint. He's just a scared bully.

AHHH, OMG, InTheStars, you're back!!!!!
It's nice to see a familiar name in the D/G forums again!!
And you are absolutely right. He's always been more concerned with his own safety. I've always seen him as selfish and arrogant, and honestly that's why I love him. Perfect characters are so boring.
