Mods, I don't really know where to put this but I decided to put it here... Please feel free to move this topic if it is not in its right place... thanks! tongue.gif

Anyway, hi guys! I was just wondering if we can have fun in this thread... something like...add something to the epilogue... hey, that is what I think the blank pages are for... laugh.gif

it would go something like this...

<insert crapilogue here>... All is well.

-*some sort of rewinding sound*-

Harry woke up from his strangest of dreams. He gazed up at the ceiling of his four poster bed, gazed around and saw a blurry figure coming towards him. He reached out for his glasses and realized that it was Hermione, holding a sandwich.

"Thought that you're awake..." she said beaming at him, while she handed out the sandwich "...and hungry!"
"Thanks, how long have I been asleep, Hermione?" he asked as he took a bite from the sandwich.
"Three days." she said as she looked out to the window. There was a long pause then "it's really over isn't it?"
"Huh? yeah... its not hurting anymore" said Harry as he felt the thin lightning bolt scar on his forehead.
He just realized that in his dream he was married to Ginny and Hermione was married to Ron. She's going to be a really great wife. He thought.
***

Anyway, I'm too lazy to finish it right now because I still have an exam to prepare to for tomorrow... and I'll leave it at that... tongue.gif biggrin.gif

Let's have some fun and create our own epilogue without destroying the canon one... most likely start it off with Harry waking up with a dream... laugh.gif thumbup.gif innocent.gif cheers.gif

Heh...I love the idea of this topic. I was counting the pages of the (crap)epilogue - just to see if it was REALLY that short - and my sister was watching me and she saw all the blank pages at the end and was like, "why are there so many extra pages? do you get to write the ending or something?"

Funny, hmm?

If the crapilogue was anyone's dream, it was Ginny's for sure. I mean, cheesy OBHWF and kids with crappy names, Harry and Hermione not talking to each other, Draco's receding hairline, Gryffindor and Slytherin rivalry and all happening at King's Cross where Ginny was running after the train in PS.
mystiquefire
The crapilogue was Voldemort's nightmare. He dreamed it while he was stuck in between life and death at King's Cross station.
_supergirl
I've been tempted to believe that those extra pages were added just for us, Harmonians.

Everytime I open the book and see those pages, I get this strange feeling that if I watch closely enough I may see something like "Oh, yeah... by the way, Rose's eyes are green" or "Harry and Hermione can be spotted hidding behind a wall snogging" ... something like that.

Maybe the pages were added so we could write that... whistling.gif

NOT that I did it... whistling.gif whistling.gif

Isn't it obvious? The blank pages are just there for fun! Every badly written book needs blank pages at the end so the delusional people who read them can make up their own ending, gosh!

You know, some times I think it would have just been better if the epilouge was just pages of blank lined paper with the heading "Write Your Own EPILOUGE!" Sure, at first we'd be pissed, but then JKR will post the real epilouge on her website and we will all agree the blank pages are much better. thumbup.gif

I now actually like the Epilogue! Thanks to DonovanPotter's fanfic DREAMS! Yay for that! thumbup.gif

If it's for us to write the ending we want...i know what I'd write! lol
potterhead_679
Thanks for the warm replies... lol... write your own epilogue was the first thought that came into my mind when I saw the blank pages...
yeah,, it could be Ginny's dream or Harry and Hermione's nightmare... tongue.gif
But since it's Harry's POV... then its most likely his nightmare... laugh.gif

The blank pages made the tree lover in me very sad. sad.gif

Did the blank pages in the US Edition make the page count 784? I know Scholastic made an announcement way back when about page count.

The whole project, at least on Scholastic's end, seemed rushed to me. The fact that there is no blurb on the the jacket is odd to me. Don't the UK versions have a blurb?

Did any of the other hardcover editions (Books 1-6) have all of those blank pages?

Not that much of this matters, I just think this just is evidence how rushed this thing was to get to market.

Yeah, they do. A short one on the back and a larger one on the inside.

I think the non-blurb was a attempt to make the book feel epic. I certainly was shivering with anticipation when I read it... but then I started the book and it went away sad.gif

Noooooooo. 59.gif That's what the pages with words printed on them are for (save "Godric's Hallow").
potterhead_679
or... maybe the real epilogue is printed in invisible ink... lol...
because it contains scenes that are not meant to be read by children... whistling.gif

and its probably up to us to find out... twisted.gif whistling.gif

Oh yeah! NC-17 scenes of H/Hr after Harry snapped out of his nightmare also known as the crapilogue. biggrin.gif twisted.gif whistling.gif

I can see that also. rolleyes.gif
Harry85
lol, that would be hilarious. I can see it starting like this, "Hey, dudes, you really thought it would end like this? No way!" and then the real epilogue starts... twisted.gif biggrin.gif

Ha, that was one of the first things I said to my mom after I got the book (I immediately flipped to the back to see if that crapilogue was true). "Hey, look at the bright side, I'll just write my own epilogue in the back!" She was probably a lot happier with this bright side rather than my many tears. innocent.gif
Mira
Yeah, let's see.. "Harry, darling, WAKE UP! Your dreaming and talking in your sleep. AGAIN! HARRY!" "Huh???" Harry mumbled rubbing the lightning scar on his forehead out of habit.. "Whaaa--at?" Looking up at Hermione though a blurey sleepy eye.. His wife smiled at him, "You were saying those names again. Dear.. Albus Serverus Potter, I swear Harry James Potter, if you dare to name our child that I will hit you with an unforgivable curse so hard you will wish you had lost to Voldemort! Now pull up that wand and fix me some pickles and ice cream!" thumbup.gif
With a stretch, Harry got up, "wonder if my Dad went though this when Mom was pregnant with me?" "Don't worry, dear, it is normal.. According to Witch's Guide to a Trouble Free Birthing, page 298... "Harry smiled to himself, somethings never change, his beloved wife and his lightning scar..

The End.

This is what I would write on those blank pages after the DH epilogue:

Two years after the first epilogue:

Harry sat at his desk. He had made up his mind to leave Ginny. He had often thought that he would, once Lily started Hogwarts. He planned to ask for a legal separation from Ginny soon. He'll state in his divorce proceedings that it's because of - what is it the Muggles say - oh yes, irreconcilable differences!

Why he married Ginny in the first place he couldn't recall. It was almost as if, it was expected of him. To marry Ginny that is. For a while, he was happy with his trophy wife, but he found that he was increasingly becoming unhappy. Although Ginny's beauty was fading, Harry often wondered why she wasn't as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She was always so petty, overly possessive and jealous, and her temper was the worst. It was getting worse with each passing day, and quite frankly, he was getting tired of it all. He realized that she was becoming more and more like her mother, in looks and demeanor. Molly was usually unbearable and had always been the domineering type, and Ginny was behaving much the same way.

Harry's mind wandered to Hermione. He wondered if Hermione was happy in her marriage. Ron was always the difficult one. She was usually the one to conform to his needs and wishes. She changed so much the last two years at Hogwarts. And, not all for the best. They didn't get to see each other often, except for the holidays which were spent at the Burrow. Ginny preferred it that way. She said that the holidays were enough time with her family.

Harry took a folded piece of paper out of his pocket. Written on the paper were arrangements to meet Hermione for lunch in the restaurant of a nearby hotel. Since she was an attorney, he was going to ask her for the name of a divorce lawyer. It'll be good to see her again smiled Harry, as he folded the paper and put it back into his pocket. He stood up, grabbed his jacket from the back of his chair and headed out his office door.
Harry85
lol, both your versions of the epilogue are fun! Although, I'd like to see more of how Harry divorces from Ginny, I don't think that would go so well with the Weasleys...

Oh, I can see things getting really nasty between them and the Weasleys.

However, I think the "wake up from the nightmare" versions would fit any day after the short blank pages.

I think that my post, "Two years after the first epilogue" would definitely cause a rift between Harry and the Weasleys because, after all, he will be divorcing their daughter (and sister). It isn't exactly a celebratory occasion! whistling.gif

I have a brother-in-law who divorced his first wife because she didn't want to have children and he did. (and yes they had discussed this matter before getting married, she just changed her mind) Although his ex-wife has yet to talk to him since their divorce, my brother-in-law, to this day, has maintained a very good relationship with his former in-laws. However, I just don't see that this would be the case with Molly. I don't think that she would be as friendly towards Harry as my brother-in-law's former in-laws are towards him. Molly would not be a happy camper! And, neither would the rest of the Weasleys. And, I see Ginny as going straight for the carotid! She will be really ticked off with Harry! I wouldn't be surprised if she kept him from seeing his kids. I believe that she is exactly that type of woman. Of course, this is the case in my fictional scenario.

But you know, I do believe that no one should be in an unhappy marriage. No one should stay in a marriage hoping that things will change or that they should stay in a marriage for the children's sake. It rarely works. It not only ruins the relationship with the couple, but the children are affected as well.

I think that the blank pages are there to throw the crapilogue away and write your own version. tongue.gif Because if you think about it a bad ending inspires the writing of your own, so I would just write an epilogue not what happens after those crappy nineteen years blush.gif I hope I can write an epilogue...we'll see! rolleyes.gif

I agree with you Danny2004... thumbup.gif nightmare is better... I don't really want a Harry-Weasleys rift... laugh.gif
What would the Weasleys say if Hermione divorced Ron??

It would be an even nastier brawl... laugh.gif

Well, yes, Molly wouldn't be so comprehensive, especially because it's her little baby girl involved in it. rolleyes.gif

No, I think an Harry/Ginny divorce would create the nastier brawl. She is, after all, the Weasleys baby girl. smile.gif

Molly would be restless, that's for sure. But we can always say that Harry has already met worse in his life. laugh.gif lmfao.gif Really, what would Molly say if the thing on love potion is brought on the table?... Uh oh. innocent.gif

In the ideal world, a rift between Harry and the Weasleys would be something I'd try to avoid if possible. That's why I prefer fics set in the same period as the end of the war or a few years after after a nightmare called "crapilogue".

No offense, but who cares about a Ron/Hermione divorce in the wizarding world? biggrin.gif tongue.gif A Harry/Ginny divorce would be nastiest since Ginny is the baby girl and Harry being a well-known person in the wizarding world whether he likes it or not: I can smell the likes of Rita Skeeter making lots of cash on the whole thing and public opinion being divided although Harry would gain the public's favour more easily than Ginny would. blink.gif Harry would need a good lawyer with an Al Pacino-style loudmouth (And Justice for All), LOL.
Harry85
lol, I'm sure Harry would get all the single witches on his side if he was to divorce Ginny, as they would hope to be the next one to marry him...

I'd like for him to have an Al Pacino-style lawyer although i've not seen the movie you mentioned.
Eka
Well Harry oppened Pandora's box! Ginny would eat him alive if he dares to leave her... or poison him and hermione online2long.gif A cool way to leave would be take the kids and run away with Hermione! laugh.gif
No really I don't see how it could work otherwises poor kids.. I dunno I insist the crapilogue must be erased and a new one must be written tongue.gif

Yes that's it we are supposed to make up our own ending like Harry wakes up from a nightmare to find himself asleep next to Hermione and their daughter is in the next room...duh we should have realized that forever ago!

Are those multiple blank pages to be found in the Scholastic edition? The Bloomsbury edition of Book Seven has only one blank page after the epilogue -- not counting the end paper. Also, it was supposed to be one page longer than that of Book Six, but it's exactly the same number of pages: 607.

I think it's only in the Scholastic edition, which as I said before looked like a rush job to me, no blurb on the jacket and those blank pages. The pagination announced in advance was changed, too on the US edition -it was supposed to be 784 but was 759.
