Destroying Horcruxes and Revealing Feelings

Hermione Granger was worried. Her best friend, and love of her life despite what someone else could think, Harry Potter, had now been holed up in the study room of Grimmauld Place for three days, trying to find a way to destroy the Horcruxes.

They had worked hard to track down all of them, and voyaged through the whole world, her, Harry and Ron, and more than once risked their life to get them.

Now, Ron was at the Burrow, recovering from their last adventure, that had left him injured to his right arm, and Harry was feeling responsible for that.

That was the real reason he had shut her out of the study, other wise he would have let her in. thye would have worked better together.

Not really knowing what to do, Hermione sat on the couch in the living room, once again examining the objects they had collected. There was Rowena Ravenclaw’s textbook, then there were a couple of strange looking jewels they had taken in Asia…all of that would be useless if they didn’t find a way to break through the things and take Voldemort’s soul fragments from each of them.

She willed herself to concentrate, but as she closed her eyes to think, she kept seeing that door of the study shut in her face. Exhaling in frustration, she got up and started banging on it.

“Harry, please, open the door! You shouldn’t be in there alone!” she said, trying to make him reason.

No response.

“Harry, please!” she said, and still no response.

She tried forcing the door open, but her spells didn’t work. She had to admit Harry had become really good at spell casting, and it was not easy to break through a ward he had set.

Of course, there was an extreme remedy to the situation, she could blow away a whole portion of the wall, but it seemed a bit desperate, and she wanted to keep it for later, in case she still wasn’t able to get through him. He would yell at her for doing that, but if there was no other choice, she would.

As she waited for him to open the door, an owl arrived with a letter.

It was from Ginny, and Hermione had to restrain herself from rolling her eyes. She softly knocked on Harry’s door.

“There’s a letter for you from Ginny” she said, and placed the envelope on the floor, then walked back to the Black’s library, where she would try having some work done.

As she found a particularly interesting tome, she become engrossed in reading and taking notes, and skipped lunch. When her stomach growled, in late afternoon, she realized she was famished and went to fix herself a sandwich. Passing in front of the study, she noticed the letter was gone.

“So this is it. Me, his friend for seven years, the one who stood by him through everything, can’t bring him out of that room, but a letter from Ginny can” she angrily thought, and felt tears welling up in her eyes.

As she angrily wiped them away, she was surprised to see him in the kitchen.

“Harry!” she squealed, and went to hug him. He stiffened, and walked away without a word, holing himself in that study again.

She was hurt, and now sat in the kitchen crying freely. It was strange, she had always been strong, even when the Death Eaters had raided her parents’ house killing them. She had not cried, back then, she just steeled her resolve to bring Voldemort down.

But Harry, well, his cold attitude toward her stung her deeply, like no one else could do. After an hour or two, she shakily got up, and resumed her work in the library. Midnight came and went, and she never left the books she was reading, furiously taking notes.

She had found hints, and now she was trying to put them together. Working feverishly like that, she never noticed Harry standing in the doorway, looking at her softly. After all, she had her back to him, so she couldn’t see the boy.

After some minutes, he left, and sighed while entering the study again.

A couple hours later, Hermione was knackered, but happy. She had a way to destroy the Horcruxes, and now she just needed to tell Harry that. “If he will listen, of course” she sadly thought.

Knocking on the door, she spoke.

“Harry, I did it! I’ve found a way to destroy the objects!” she called to him, and waited. She was about to leave when she heard the door click open.

“Are you sure?” was all he said. She nodded, so he walked past her to where the objects were.

She followed him, and then took a deep breath, consulted her notes, and gazed at Rowena Ravenclaw’s book. They would try her method on it first.

Aiming her wand at the book, Hermione closed her eyes, and Harry noticed she was chewing on her lip, concentrating. He found that endearing, and smiled for the first time in days.

Then it happened. She cast a spell he didn’t recognize, and a jet of blue light engulfed the book, almost burning it from within. As it burned, they could see a black aura coming out of the pages, and it was slowly consumed by the blue light. As it vanished, all what remained of the book was a pile of ashes.

Harry was speechless, and forgot his attitude, hugging her tight.

“You did it! You did it!” he said, and she was more than a bit surprised at his antics, completely opposite to how he had acted those last few days.

“Hermione, you’re so brilliant!” he said, locking eyes with her, and she gulped at the fire she noticed in his green orbs.

Then, he slowly inched closer, and claimed her lips in a sweet kiss.

It was what she ahd dreamed for so long, so she abandoned herself to the feeling, closing her eyes, and kissing him back, her arms laced around his neck.

As their tongues met for the first time, the kiss grew heated, and soon they collapsed on the couch, a full snogging session ensuing.

When they finally parted, he caressed her face.

“There’s no going back now” he said. “I’ve waited even too long to confess my feelings for you, and I just needed you to know before I might…I might…”

“Don’t even think about it, Harry. You will defeat him, and come back alive, or I’ll make sure I kick your ass for the eternity when we meet again” she said, and he knew she meant it.

He smiled, and nodded. “I’ll come back. I will, now that I have you” he said, kissing her again.

“What about Ginny?” she said, hating herself for probably ruining the mood, but she needed to know.

“Well, she will have to accept this. I’ve given up so many things in my life for the others’ sake, it’s time I start acting a bit selfishly too” he said, with a smile.

“So, did she say anything about Ron in her letter?”

“Yes, she says he’s going to rest for a few days but he’s ok now. I can’t stop feeling responsible for what he had to go through…”

“Harry…”

“I know, I know. It’s not my fault, but still I feel responsible. I can’t help it, but as long as you’re on my side, I’ll come out of this” he said, and she smiled.

The he kissed her again. “I love you, Hermione” he said.

“I love you too, Harry”

I feel gloomy these days, and I haven’t even read the book yet. Can’t imagine how I’ll feel when I’ll be done with it, but I know that we are right about the ships, whatever JK wrote. It might not be recognised, but Harry and Hermione love each other. Call me delusional, tell me I’m in denial, whatever. I’ll go down with this ship, and will be proud of boarding it in the first place.
