I poked around and could not find any mention to any alternate ending anywhere else on the Web. I'm going to assume that was an April Fool's joke and an attempt to get this excitable fandom jumping unless I hear differenly from a reliable source.

Lol, well, you know, as April Fools Joke go, this isn't as cruel as the usual pokes at fun they have at the expense of HHr shippers. Subtle, perhaps, but something I can laugh at.

I like how they used Emma's hair on that Equus girl's body.

Ahem, you rumbled it. Of course, it was entirely a bit of fun for a certain day of the year and the topic was simply something that had a popular appeal. It was meant to be affectionate and nothing worse than a trick that Hermione might play. I have seen my hastily Photoshopped Equus picture pop up in other places since (btw I did see the Equus which was great!)

The story did drift unexpectedly onto Reuters at one stage and the rashbre central joke was whether JK would fire some kind of spell at us.

In the event, truth was stranger than fiction with that nasty person riding on Joanne Rowling's coat-tails with the so-called guide to H Potterdom.

Ah, well you know how it is. HHr-shippers have a chip on their shoulders the size of OotP. We think the world's against us. XD

It was funny. I personally didn't find it offensive and I got some of the joke, at least!
