MOD NOTE here ~gal-texter

I've been at portkey for a short while now...well, compared to some of the new users on PK, i suppose i have been around for a short while longer.

Anyways, when i first came to PK i thought : "wow, what a good site."
And PK actually pulled me more into H/Hr and even D/G. Since then, PK has grown so much, and i have come to love it even more.

I haven't been around for even a year here, yet the site has changed so much, and has so many more members now.

To the oldy veterans of PK, have you noticed how much this site has changed?

= )

Very weird post, i know, but this has been going through my mind every time i come on to portkey.

Says i'm member number 54 and i can't believe it when i see member numbers up to 1,700 in forums. Not sure if these numbers are correct, but its very interesting. Bravo to Portkey.Org and to Nappa, Heaven, James, and everyone else who helps manage this wonderful site.

Anyways, i'll stop my blabbering and say what i wanted to say.

It really makes me happy to see how much PK has developed, and i feel lucky to have found this site.

Actually, although i'm a lot newer to the site. I have to agree with you. A great job is done by the staff here. Particularly on the *ahem* character bashing.

Yup, portkey has changed a lot! I`m member number 511 and joined in February and was a lurker for months before.
erroom_potter
well. PK change a lot. first I come here and only read fiction but when I found forum It's great I love to read other H/H opinion coz I never found it at My country HP board and PK made me do something that I don't think I can do it.
I'm sure this site is GREAT.

Well the first time I came here I was so lost. This place is bigger then the great hall ok. there is a lot of Forums here and it can be a little confusing at first, but it grews on you after a while.

I like it now that I know where stuff is, and now my art is in a Portkey Logo so I have no problems. hehehe thumbup.gif

True. PK's membership is growing, and so are its forums. It came to the point where everyone (members, Mod Team, Nappa himself) got confused. To the Admins' credit, they quickly overhauled the forums. Take a look at this discussion sometime.

I'll probably move our posts to the Administration folder soon, as they're about Portkey's forums in general. Will do so when I come back from RL stuff.

Have fun!

Heh, come to think of it - I did notice that. Portkey has 3,500+ members right now as we speak (3,583, if you want to know) - and my member ID's 246. That's saying a lot there pretty much *lol* And I've been a member since the beginning of January.

*glances at a certain mod* Hopefully she'll post here too . . whistling.gif

Wow, though - it is hard to believe. Portkey's community is growing larger day by day - and no wonder. I'm sure you all know the reason why.

Hmm, whom are you referring to? Kalie, tisty, research_dome, or me? Or someone else?

I don't know what to say, except that ... Methinks this thread should go somewhere else. It could easily get buried here in the Off Topic forum. Lemmesee ... Maybe the Newbie Guides forum would do for now.

*moves the thread*

Aww.. I love threads like this.

I haven't been around long (member number 1,881) but it feels like I have been here forever. Since July.

But if you are an active poster, and you make a lot of friends, it's funny how fast a place like this can almost feel like home. The D/G forum doesn't go a day without me perusing it... thumbup.gif

I'm glad it's growing larger though. Our wonderful ships are spreading like mad!

Wow, I feel like a complete newbie. I'm member 2257... But even I remember what it used to be like a little while ago too. It's definitely changed, and I think what I miss the most are those little pictures (fanart type things) that we used to have for the shipping threads. Anyone know what I mean? Anyway, but I like it a lot now too. cool.gif

*nods head in agreement* PK has grown tremendously. I joined in December 2002. I was the 137th member, I think. It's amazing to see how many people post here and all of the activity that goes on in PK. I can definitely see PK growing more for a while.
hpcho13
I don't feel like a newbie, though I have a little amount of posts. Alot of people come here because of so many recs! Good thing too.

If by "recs" you mean the fanfic recommendations, then I'm among those people. Those forums are what brought me over to PK. They've attracted plenty of users, including authors. Our techies are presently working very very hard to make an even better Recs system. biggrin.gif thumbup.gif

We Fic Mods exchanged high-fives when the H/H Fics Master List grew so big, the board software wouldn't accept it as a single post. That List looks short, but each item actually has lots of codes, thus taking up a lot of post space.

laugh.gif Yup, I once asked what makes PK so poster-friendly. It's also amazing how we've got fanarts, essays, non-English forums, ficlet challenges. Really amazing.

dreamin_athena - I know what you mean about the fanart. They were a great addition to the shipping forums.

It's so unbelievable that Portkey now has over 5,000 members. From a small, unknown site . . it's grown into a global, well known HP fansite. And it took two plus years (at least) for it to come to that, two plus years of hard work for it to come to this. To what it is now.

gal-texter - I think the person was talking about Kalie.

To the oldy veterans of PK, have you noticed how much this site has changed?

I don't think I'm an oldy though *looks on the date ups* I'm today one year at Portkey. One year, man I'm getting old. Now seriously one year. But back to topic Portkey did change a lot in that year. If I say a lot then I mean a lot. I can remember as we had the old invasion style for a time, as we had everywhere to read Kindred spirit. Or as you could on the frontpage get to site's like anything with R. And to that real cool site by Max. I did in fact look this one up a lot since you could be sure and find the best H/Hr storys out there.
Then the very different styling of the Forum anyway. As I lurked at this board it had something about 600 members. I was shy so I registered only as I got the urge that Hermione is a very important character just nobody seemed to have the need to point that out. That was 346 members later. But luckily I registered finally.
What had changed?
Now we have a Fanfiction-Forum before that we had in each shipper-forum a fiction section and the Beta-hunting and fiction-hunting where under Off-Topic I think.
A lot Smute-queen's were here to and did post a lot stuff. They had some interesting posts there. The Chat was at that time very active and very very hot. I know it from own experince if you call Hermione "Scarlet-Woman" don't try to find a name for me. All because my first fic here was NC-17.

Old times, hmm. It was fun, really it was that much I was up till 4 am and was chatting.

wow, this thread is right out of the archives...I'm member number 6192, but today there are almost 17 000 members...wow, ive been around a while..
Accio Harry!
Wow, this is an old one, awesome!!!

I'm #15,327! But, I'm #19 on the all-time poster list... how does that happen, LOL...

I'm #12,904 and #32 on the all time poster list- right under NAPPA. smile.gif I think we have so many more members because of the growing fanfiction and then they discover the forums, the fanart, and the fic recs. Plus, we have lots of nice members here too.

Wowser. I'm a real noob, haven't been around for a year, but you have to admit that PK's getting huge. Everyday we have new forum members and authors. I only hope we get more after the books are over.

Hmm...#72 on the all time posts and climbing.

Number 11,000 something here....I'm kind of in the middle. I've been hanging around awhile, but not long enough to counted as an "oldie" tongue.gif

I'm #261 but from my posts number you can probably see that I do way more lurking than actual commenting! whistling.gif

Isn't it odd that, on the main forums page, it says we have around 19,000 registered members but you're 22,000+... odd...

Hmm I'm number 13,303.

... *evil grin* ....

Trelawney: "I see a prevalence of threes in your member numbership."

Salamon2: So does that mean I'm usually the third wheel or something?

Trelawney: Uh no, but--

Salamon2: Then it has got to do with all that Alchemical symbolism of the three parts of humans. Which dates back to Ancient Greek thought of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle.

Trelawney: The number three--

Salamon2: Or perhaps! It means I have a special connection to God, since he is a Trinity!

Trelawney: The inner eye can--

Salamon2: Or maybe it means that I have to try three times--like in every story based in Western Culture--before something I do is right! Third time's the charm and stuff.

Trelawney: I quit! I'm taking the floo to a nice beach in Wales!

Salamon2: Nice talking to ya!
