1.Drank lots of alcohol
2.Decide to write names I liked on paper.
3.Called myself an idiot because I should have done no. 2 before consuming alcohol.
4. Put it in a hat and picked the first one.
5.Discarded the first name which was myhairisprettierthanyours and hoped to get Queenoftheuniverse
6. Got this one and decided to keep it because I was getting frustrated with how the paper was slippery.
Registered into portkey and as all great people said 'the rest was history'.
artisticmaster
Jun 3 2005, 02:46 PM
Although
artisticmaster seems a bit conceited and arrogant, trust me, I didn't intend for it to seem that way. But art (as well as writing) is one of the few things that I believe that I'm actually good at, so might as well tell the world, right?

Also, my friends nicknamed me that after I held my first showcase of my art. One of my friends also complimented me and told me that when I really get into writing a story, I can really 'paint' the words.
lyla ail
Jun 23 2005, 08:05 AM
lyla ail is after my two favourite songs at the moment 'Lyla' by Oasis and 'Accidentally in Love' by the Counting Crows. I had to think of something and this was the first thing that came to me, I haven't used it anywhere else.
AmericanMione
Jun 23 2005, 02:29 PM
There's really not much of a story behind mine: I think I'm pretty Hermione like, except that I'm from the US. So I came up with "AmericanHermione" but I didn't like that, so I shortened it. And thus: "AmericanMione". Yes, very self-explanatory, isn't it?

Heh. Mine has a mystery all right...My friend, Anya, made up a few nicknames for us all. She, is "Hershey". Yes, as in the chocolate, Hershey. Lol. My other friend, Amy, is Kirby...Anya named me Nestley, which was after the other chocolate company, Nestle...We all forgot it didn't have the 'y' in it at the end, but we didn't bother to change it.
According to Amy, I'm "special" because my name is spelt wrong. O.o;;;
Soo, yeah...I'll shut up now. XD
-Chris.
Molly Leandra
Jun 28 2005, 10:23 PM
Hm... Basically I took my two almost-names (The other names my mother was considering naming me after I was born) and combined them. Though I'm not fond of Leandra, it's better than my real name. And I'd rather be Molly, because my siblings all have M names, but we had a cat named Molly at the time and it would have just been strange... Anyway, I prefer my almost-names to my real one, so there you have it.
aybuke
Jul 3 2005, 04:08 AM
Well, Aybüke is my real name

It means "a bride is as beautiful as moon".
MionePotter
Jul 3 2005, 09:46 AM
Mine is kind of obvious, I made the user name when I was obsessed with the nickname Mione and I added Potter because I of course will always see Hermione as future Mrs. Potter!

The funny thing about my user name now is that I kind of hate the nickname Mione and sometimes wish I had chosen a different user name.
Colloportus
Jul 8 2005, 02:22 PM
Mine is because Hermione uses this spell in the DoM and it has significance to the battle at the end of the 5th book, which I like.
hermione'sfrog
Jul 9 2005, 11:33 PM
Mine is super simple. Hermione is a lot like me (yay libraries!) and I love frogs, so hermione'sfrog is moi.

Smoony
Jul 10 2005, 12:02 AM
Smoony, because it is a mix of my name.

And it reminds me of the HP world (Moony), and I made it up randomly.
magi_luver
Jul 10 2005, 03:47 PM
Magi_luver... i guess i came up with this name because it symbolizes to ma what would have happened. 'Ma' is the first two letters of my name... 'Gi' being the first two letters of someone special. i guess i combined them and liked it. the 'luver' explains all.

anyway, i decided on this one because i could remember it... i hope that explains it.
ArmWild
Jul 10 2005, 06:25 PM
My nick is the name of an Alien in one of my favorite Science Fiction books "The Ark" by Ben Jeapes who is an astonishingly creative british author.
Anyway, there's this alien in there who has an attractive personality and his name is "Arm Wild" so...I thought it would be a neat nickname.
My other nickname that I use on mugglenet to tick ppl off is "Terminator-800-the-AntiHeron"...
Well, I love the Terminator Movie series ... and I must be the biggest Heron hater around...so .....
Gryffindor-Sword
Jul 12 2005, 08:48 AM
I had this name before I joined Portkey. Let me break down Gryffindor-Sword.
Gryffinor: for Godric Gryffindor, known for being brave and sometimes called chivalrous.
Sword: a weapon made of iron and can be a sign of chivalry.
It's much better than saying Sword of Gryffindor or Gryffindor's Sword.
CursedBlondie
Jul 12 2005, 04:45 PM
I know what my name means but I don't know how I came up with it. I have the name in 4 other forums.
Cursed- because it has to do with magic, and I think magic is really cool
Blondie- because I'm blonde and it really bugs m when people say I dye my hair so I remind them its natural by putting it in my name.
Gothic Girl
Jul 25 2005, 04:13 PM
me too, kinda. i love cats and i love Hagrid's dog, Fang!
Selenity
Jul 28 2005, 01:25 AM
I got "Selenity" from Sailor Moon manga. And "Selenity" comes from the Greek Goddess of the moon, Selene. "Selenity" can be an alteration of Selene that can be created by dropping the final e in Selene and replacing that e with ity.
Sincerely,
Selenity
Shock
Aug 1 2005, 05:54 PM
Shock - My favorite characters, besides Lock, in the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas
I usually use
Shock or
Destination(s) which was the song that drew me into vocal trance music.
Panther
Aug 2 2005, 01:07 PM
Panther?- Well, beucz, (and I've said this other places on PK) if I was an animagus, I'd want to be a black panther, I just think they're so cool!!
Not to mention, it's simple, and sounds cool anyways.

Mod Note: Merged threads. ~WonkyKris
I posted this (literally) years ago when I first got to the site. People's screen names make me very curious. I was just wondering what all of yours mean.
Mine is from "Starlight Express" (my favorite musical). The first time I saw it was on June 23 (even more years ago). Hence, Starlight623.
So, what does yours mean?
Helena Montague
Aug 8 2005, 11:20 AM
Mine is a combination of two characters from my favorite Shakespeare plays. Helena is from A Midsummer Night's Dream and Montague is the name of my favorite family in Romeo and Juliet.

afterglow_megami
Aug 9 2005, 02:18 AM
i know that there's already an existing thread like this but anyway, afterglow is a noun thats is synonymous to feel-good feeling... megami is japanese for goddess..
so
afterglow + goddess = afterglow goddess
get it?!

Marauder By Moonlight
Aug 9 2005, 08:16 AM
MarauderByMoonlight... I hope you've read the books enough to know who the Marauder's are! Moonlight has 2 reasons: 1) cause I'm not a morning person, I can stay up all night if I have to, and 2) It's a tribute to one of my faves, Moony!
Garlic bread?
Aug 19 2005, 08:07 AM
I chose my member name because its the name i have on most of the Hp websites. Its a reference to Peter Kay's Top of the Tower DVD. He talks about when you go on holiday to spain and your dad always takes you to the most english pub around where you seen pictures of dogs on the walls smoking pipes, the usual english meals then he sits down and is outraged about being offered GARLIC BREAD.
KnightRider
Aug 20 2005, 04:34 AM
The username KnightRider comes from the old TV series Knight Rider featuring David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight with a computerised, talking, (almost) indestructable Trans Am, Kitt. I grew up on that show and I'll love it till death. Kitt is my hero!
MrFlibble
Aug 20 2005, 10:31 AM
Mr Flibble is a character (sort of) off of one episode of Red Dwarf. He is about as much like me as any characterisation goes...
... He is a phycotic penguin puppet intent on killing off the characters in particularly messy ways.
The similarities are astounding
IslandPrincess1
Aug 21 2005, 09:55 AM
I got the name IslandPrincess1 because, I live on an island, my first name "Shari" means "princess" and I'm the only girl in the house.
That about sums it up.
Aurabolt
Aug 22 2005, 09:59 AM
My name comes from the Blitz move that Sabin uses in FF6. It is my favorite move since you're basically firing a beam of focused non-elemental energy right at one target for incredible amounts of damage. Such a cool looking move too.
Shiva-Knight
Aug 23 2005, 04:27 AM
I got this from 2 things, the Eastern Godess Shiva and the FFVII Summon Shiva, which is icy, and I enjoy anything that is cold. The Knight part comes from nobility and justice, which I support and try to show most of, even through I fail mierably sometimes. Icy Nobility... sounds kinda like an oxy moron, like Military Intelligence

.
AdamantEve
Aug 26 2005, 09:11 AM
My name is a pun of sorts, poking fun at misogyny and even feminism. "Adam and Eve" is a phrase often used to convey Man and Woman. The story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is greatly about the downfall of man because of Eve. The story's historical origins, after all, is to discredit women as the reliable gender. "Adamant Eve", which is a pun of "Adam and Eve" embodies my humor, my politics, my protestations about my religion and the very culture I come from and many other things about me. I love this S/N so much.
PottersPrincess
Aug 26 2005, 02:28 PM
Mine comes from a nickname - my dad for as long as i remember has called me princess lol (sweet init) it has always stuck even though i'm 14 lol. So when i started enrolling online commuinties like neopaets hehe i used pumpkinandprincess (no joke my dad called my sis pumpkin) so when i was introduced into the world of Harry Potter and found this wonderful site i thought about my little nickname and it being Harry Potter related site i put PottersPrincess and now it's my name on all HP sites hehe!
i_miss_snuffles

Hmm..well my user name is pretty easy to figure out. I (as in me) miss Snuffles (Sirius, Padfoot, Harry's godfather..)

. Yeah..I'm very creative. *cough*

This Warrior Is A Child
Oct 31 2005, 09:35 AM
My name "This Warrior Is A Child" came from a song actually. The original title is "The Warrior Is A Child" but I kind of changed it so the song can work as if it was referring to Harry. I chose this because IMO this song describes Harry to a tee. I've already posted this song somewhere else on this site but I'll post it again so you can see what I mean about it referring to Harry. (and perhaps Hermione too, hehehe)
The Warrior Is A Child
by Gary Valenciano or Twila Paris
Lately I've been winning battles left and right
But even winners can get wounded in the fight
People say that I'm amazing
I'm strong beyond my years
But they don't see inside of me
I'm hiding all the tears
Chorus:
They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
'Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)
Unafraid because His arrow is the best
But even soldiers need a quiet place to rest
People say that I'm amazing
I never face retreat, oh no
But they don't see the enemies
That lay me at His feet
Chorus:
They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
'Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)
They don't know that I come running home when I fall down
They don't know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
(Look up for His smile)
'Coz deep inside this armor
The warrior is a child
(Aahhh)

Jersey Princess
Nov 1 2005, 11:48 AM
My u/n Jersey Princess comes from when I was in Year 8 at school (four years ago) and my friend and I owned a website together. I wanted a name that was completely the opposite to me so I named myself 'princess' (because I was a little brat at the time and not at all princess-like). But because I needed an email addy, I made one using 'jersey_princess'; my site name and where I'm from--Jersey in the Channel Islands. It's stuck ever since (though it has also turned into Caesarean Princess; Caesarea was the Roman name for Jersey). I use it for everything and even have several acronyms for it: Jay, JPC (Jersey Princess Caz) and PC (PrincessCaz/PrincessCazzy which is the other pseudonym I use).
Alex Hollin
Nov 3 2005, 02:26 PM
Alexander is my absolute favorite name, so I made it Alexandra and shortened it. Then I looked for a name that would reflect my love of all things Tolkien...I was originally going to be Alexandra Arthedain, then I went...naaah. I love the Numenoreans, but it was a bit much. So I picked the Westron name for Eregion, Hollin. String them together, and you get my fanfiction.net pen name and my username here.
Feldspar
Nov 14 2005, 05:12 AM
Well, my username's history goes like this:
- I like Harry and Hermione.
- Thus, I often read fics about their relationship.
- Because of so many fics portraying how beautiful the color green is *coughHarry'seyescough*, I fell in love with it.
- I've always associated green to emerald but I thought that it was too common.
- Feldspar seems nice so I picked it. After all, I also like gemstones.

...
So, that it.
jonclift
Nov 14 2005, 07:40 AM
My username should be simple to understand, although I do wish it'd accepted the use of capital letters when I registered...
Jon is the name I prefer everyone but family members to call me, and Clift is my surname. Simple as that, really.

Because it's not my full name, and I'm over 18, having this username doesn't bother me too much. If I'd thought up "The Lurking Writer" before I signed up to be a Portkey author, though, I'd be explaining that username instead.
Leddy
Nov 22 2005, 07:20 PM
Leddy. Amalgamation of the names "Lanelle" and "Edward".
(I'm Edward.)
pintamino
Nov 23 2005, 02:47 PM
The Origin of pintamino
My first horse, Justin, is a palomino.
My second horse, Joey, is a paint or pinto.
Pinto +

mino = pintamino
Fancy that.
undeadben
Nov 26 2005, 12:30 PM
I used to be greatly immersed in the
Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom and I used to visit many sites and forums and when I finally decided to join some I wanted a screen/user name that; number 1 included my name, secondly was original, and thirdly fit in. So I thought of my favorite character "Spike" however there were so many variations of spike already. Then I thought about the fact that Spike is a Vampire, one of the
undead. And I just added my name, so I became
undeadben.
Then I started following
Dead Like Me on Showtime, and it was great because the reapers were not dead but
undead so I fit in like a glove.
It is great because no matter which site I visit, or newsgroup or forum I join, it is always available. So if you see undeadben elsewhere, it's probably me.
Larissa
Nov 26 2005, 01:35 PM
My username is quite simple. I wrote a fanfic that is a VERY big project of mine. It's about Harry and Hermione's daughter going off to Hogwarts. And I named the girl Larissa but I didn't put Potter at the end. That's because I'm not positively sure if Larissa is going to be a Potter in the end.
Miss Mady
Nov 27 2005, 03:54 PM
Miss Mady is based off a nickname my friends gave me- Mady-May. (You see, May is my real name, but around the online fandom, usually everyone calls me Mady. It's all fine wiht me.

)
Miss Mady
halbarad
Nov 28 2005, 01:32 PM
Halbarad is from The Lord of the Rings, he was one of the Rangers that came to Aragorn before he took the Dimholt road. I liked the name so i use it for various usernames.
annearchy
Dec 1 2005, 10:27 AM
Annearchy is... well, my first name is Anne, and -archy (ARKy) was something that sounded good and fits with my personality. I like to shake things up

It's pronounced ANN-ark-ee.
cheesemassacre
Dec 4 2005, 06:42 AM
Cheesemassacre...................... hmmmmmm now where did I get that again, I just wanted to try a name that would be funny and unusual at the same time so I thought of a cheese fight and the major mess it would cause so instead of putting cheese mess I put cheesemassacre.
not*so*sweet*strawberry
Dec 4 2005, 10:08 AM
not*so*sweet*strawberry....
haha, my e-mail is sweet_strawberry692010, as are my other names on Yahoo, and stuff like that... so when I joined HPANA, and then PortKey... After I chose a house (slyterin...) had to pick a better name then "sweet" haha.... So... I'm not*so*sweet*strawberry!!! hahaha...
orginally, the reason why i have "strawberry" is because of my hair colour... i'm strawberry blond
Ms_Harmony
Jan 6 2006, 08:17 AM
well I wanted some kind of username that showed my support for harmony instead of my usual nerdiness, so I chose Ms_Harmony. Yay
