Just a thought...could Harry's parents show up as Inferi at anytime? I remember reading HBP when Dumbledore was talking to Harry about them, and I quote...




Since he is getting more powerful, is he going to make MORE inferi? Can he use ones that he has already killed? Could he use Lily and James against Harry?

I thought about that when I was reading that part. I don't know though. It's more plausable to assume that he uses the corpses he had just then created.

Oh my gosh! I can't even think of something that horrible. I dont think Harry would be able to repel them if they were to atack him or Ron or Hermione. Let's just hope that it won't...

Whoa... that's quite a thought. It'd be smart of Voldemort to use his parents that way.... BAD AND EVIL, but smart...

That WOULD be horrible if that happened... true, Harry probably wouldn't have the heart to destroy his parents body, and he might even risk Ron and Hermione's lives for his parents' corpses!

Honestly, when I first read about Inferi, I thought "Whoa, I bet that there just might be a Lily and James Inferi running around.." That would be a good way to catch Harry off guard, if he was suddenly face to face with his parents that died 15 years ago. And Harry's the kind of guy who would let his emotions interfere, and he probably wouldn't attack the two people who gave up there lives for his. But Who would be THAT evil.....? LORD VOLDEMORT OF COURSE!

I thought about this too. Terrible, Powerful, Genius being Voldemort is.. Using the James and Lily Inferi on Harry would be.. ingenius. That could be Harry's downfall. I would be suprised if Rowling didn't use it..

If Inferi have to be made very soon after death, so the bodies are intact, I very much doubt Lily and James will be brought back as such. Voldemort did not plan for Harry to survive, so therefore if he did plan to make Lily and James (and perhaps Harry too?) Inferi that Halloween, it would be for his own amusement or some other non-Harry related reason. Therefore, he would have planned to kill all three Potters first, then do the rest at his leisure. With the AK rebounding though, he never got the chance.

If it's possible to make a corpse that's been dead a longer time an Inferi, maybe. After thirteen years though (Voldemort didn't have a body to use to do the spells until the end of GoF) Lily and James' bodies would be pretty much skeletonized. There wouldn't be much of anything to reanimate, if that's what's required.

I have to agree with Diana. For another reason that this may not be possible, think back to what exactly happened that night. Voldie had already killed James and Lily, and was going for Harry. As we know, his mother's protection rebounded the weakened spell back at him, seriously injuring Voldermort.

Now, consdiering what he had to go through in order to get his body back, I figure he would'nt have had the time nor the power nescessary to bewitch the bodies before they decomposed. I'm pretty his Death Eaters are'nt strong enough, not to mention that I don't think they have that kind of hindsight.

Good point! I didin't think about that. However...don't you think that the boy from the prophesy (which is why Voldy went after him) would make a good servant for him if he were to become an inferi? I think that if he would have been able to kill Harry, that he would have used him.

About Lily and James...who knows? I guess that it was the first thing that came to my mind when I read the thing about inferi. One thing that I would like to point out is this:

If Voldy could find a way to make himself "immortal" with horcuxes and be one of the brightest wizards of his age, couldn't he find a way to bring them back?

Well, I do get what you are saying, but as the Harryverse goes, there is no magic which can bring a dead person back to life. Reanimating a corpse would require the bodily functions to start working again, and if the body is decomposed, no organs remain to allow muscle movement or basic control of the body through the brain.

I'm not saying I understand the Harryverse, but the series still involves some laws of biology. I'm pretty sure Hagrid would agree.

Ever since they were mentioned, I was waiting for Inferius!Lily and Inferius!James to jump out and leave Harry scarred for life (well, more than he is now). When Dumbledore and Harry got to the cave, I thought this is it!. So I was kinda disappointed not to see them ( ).

I guess Voldemort wasn't expecting Harry to go to the cave, so there was no point; he had plenty of guardians (I wonder when he put them there? If it was before his downfall, those bodies have been in there since the 70s! *shudder*) already.

I wouldn't be surprised if Voldemort did make Inferi out of Lily and James and maybe even Dumbledore, Voldemort would love to have control over Dumbledore. This would be the ultimate test for Harry, but I don't think it would be his downfall which is what Voldemort would intend. It would show Harry's maturity and courage if he were to reason that these were just shadows of the already deceased and that he wouldn't actually be killing his loved ones. Having said that, I think it would shake him up quite considerably. Cue Ron and Hermione to reassure him later on. It probably helps that Harry has already encountered Inferi so he knows what he is up against. I think there is little now to stop Harry defeating Voldemort, short of sacrificing the people he loves who are alive.

I do agree that its too late for Lily and James to show up as Inferi. They have been dead too long. Also, I doubt Dumbledore will be an Inferi. I know he hasnt been dead long, but I think Voldemort has other things on his mind than making more Inferi. Also, I think if Voldemort came to Hogwarts, he'd never get close enough to Dumbledore's grave.

I agree too. Despite the ingenius-ness of such a plan to use these three important people in Harry's lives against him, it seems kinda farfetched to me. Lily's and James' bodies would be decomposed by now, and like what Austenlover said, I doubt Voldemort would be able to reach Dumbledore's body.

But then, you'll never really know what Voldie can do. Perhaps there is a way of recomposing Lily's and James' bodies without actually ressurecting them. And is the body needed to make Inferi in the first place? Sorry, I kinda forgot how the Inferi work....

Inferi are re-animated corpses, so, yes, the body would be needed. While I agree that we have no limits of Voldy's powers, it would probably take too long to re-compose the bodies of James and Lily, and I do think he has more important things on his mind than to dig up their bodies and make them into Inferi.
