Well despite the sinking of canon!Harry/Hermione, I did still find a few Harry/Hermione moments here and there, even at the very end of the book. But I swear, at the beginning, it was screaming Harry/Hermione all over.

Let's start with a few, shall we?

QUOTE
"...At Hogwarts, for instance -"
" - you can't Apparate anywhere inside the buildings or grounds," Harry said quickly. "Hermione Granger told me."
- pg 62, Horace Slughorn, UK version

I got really excited, seeing as to how Hermione's the first friend/person mentions. And the fact that he remembers what Hermione says is a big plus too. He keeps doing that, you know.

And a few pages later...

QUOTE
"One of my best friends is Muggle-born," said Harry. "And she's the best in our year."
- pg 71, Horace Slughorn, UK version

While the "best friend" bit wasn't exactly good, I really liked how Harry manages to bring Hermione up in the second conversation he has after leaving Privet Drive. And you'll like Hermione's reaction to this.

QUOTE
Hermione turned to Harry with a radiant expression and whispered, "Did you really tell him I'm the best in the year? Oh, Harry!"
- pg 176, The Half-Blood Prince, UK version

And in the third conversation he has (with Mrs. Weasley), he brings in Hermione again.
QUOTE
"So Hermione's here?" he asked happily as he tickled Crookshanks behind the ear.
- pg 83, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version

While the "happily" may be attributed to being happy at tickling Crookshanks, I like to think that he's thinking about Crookshanks' owner. biggrin.gif

If the rest of the book never existed, I would have said that we stood a pretty good chance. Honestly, there was more Harry/Hermione at the Burrow than there was Harry/Ginny, so I honestly don't get how this happened:

QUOTE
He felt a strange twinge of annoyance as she walked away, her long red hair dancing behind her. He had become so used to her presence over the summer that he had almost forgotten that Ginny did not hang around him, Ron and Hermione while at school.
- pg 131, The Slug Club, UK version

Like I've said in the chapter discussion... Why didn't JKR put in more Harry/Ginny to show us exactly how Harry got used to Ginny being around, if it's meant to be so significant? It really doesn't make sense to me.

But let's temporarily put aside all the Harry/Ginny and focus on the Harry/Hermione, shall we?

QUOTE
"Were the Muggles all right? Did they treat you OK?"
"Same as usual," said Harry, as Hermione perched herself on the edge of his bed. "They didn't talk to me much, but I like it better that way. How're you, Hermione?"
- pg 89, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version

I admit that I put this in mainly because of the bed part. Hehe. But then again, Hermione does show a bit of concern for Harry, so I suppose it counts.

And this one caught my attention, though it's not particularly H/Hr:

QUOTE
"Fleur's not stupid, she was good enough to enter the Triwizard Tournament," said Harry.
"Not you as well!" said Hermione bitterly.
- pg 93, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version

The "bitterly" part sort of gets me, in a Hermione's not happy that Harry thinks that Fleur is not bad too, kinda way. Maybe I'm just delusional and reading too much into it, but I thought I'd put it in anyway.

QUOTE
Hermione was peering into Fred and George's boxes, though every now and then she cast sideways looks at Harry.
- pg 95, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version

Taken out of context, I'd say that Hermione has a thing for Harry, but in the context... It probably was because Hermione was trying to see how Harry was reacting to talking about Sirius. But hey, isn't she the only one who seems to care or bother about that? biggrin.gif

More quotes to be uncovered everywhere, I'll let you guys chip some in tongue.gif
Scrivenshaft
Oh my God you missed the "you've never been so fanciable" quote! ohmy.gif

Haven't got a page ref, sorry - Mr. Scrivenshaft has buried himself away with my copy...
Shinteo_5
I agree. It seems to jump out of nowhere, the H/G...
I was so hopeful for the 1st half of it but....

...No... Must not loose faith... There's still book 7...

AHHHHH!!!!!
hermione'sfrog
Supose all the R/Hr people are dancing around with joy, because it now has real potential. I wish I knew what it felt like to have your ship realised.
Catsky
While I cringed at the thought of HERMIONE actually saying "Frankly, you're quite fanciable!" (or something like that) to HARRY, the idea of her finding him fanciable is adorable. smile.gif

Must keep the faith. Must keep the faith. happy.gif
madscientist
There were also the unusal mentions of harry thinking of what Hermione would think about something...

Overall there just seemed to be some subplot that is running here....
<3_Ash_<3
I wont quote it because its far too long, but I loved [okay not love, love would be having hr and h together] page 206-207. Was I the only one who thought it was cute that hermione was basically saying how hot Harry was [okay maybe I'm exaggerating, but after this book I'll exaggerate all I want wink.gif ] I haven't read that much of the book I just tend to flip to random pages.

I hope you guys can find more smile.gif
Joogie
I love you guys. I'm crying right now, but I love you for keeping the faith. I'll hunt up moments tomorrow, but it's too late at night, and I'm too upset to do it right now.

I love you.
<3_Ash_<3
okay my brother has just taken my hbp book cative *glares at brother* so I have to go and save it. Speed read it and copy down all the hr/h moments no matter how few or many there may be.

*puts on armour and gets ready for battle* Our ship isn't going to sink we'll patch up these holes and leave shore I promise! [lol sorry I just had to say the last part biggrin.gif]
<3_Ash_<3
okay their not in any type of order but here it goes.

QUOTE
... looking at a complete loss for anything to say. Harry know how she felt.
- page 217

I just thought its cute how harry can still tell exactly [or close enough] to what hermiones feeling

QUOTE
"Oh, I wish you would come, I dont want to go on my own.",... Harry knew she was thinking about McLaggen.
- Page 220

It may me just me but, I thought it almost seemed as though Hermione didn't really "trust" McLaggen and wanted Harry there incase he was a "bad choise" for lack of a better word. Meh, maybe its just my imagination tongue.gif rolleyes.gif

QUOTE
...just in time to see the portrait hole closing. With a sinking feeling he thought he saw a mane of bushy brown hair whipping out of sight
- Page 281

say what you want that its a hr/r moment cause she was "mad" at ron. But I still think its sweet that Harry goes after her instead of enjoying the party which he could have easily done.

QUOTE
Harry could not help but admire her spell work at a time like this.
- Page 282

This one line is one of my favourites so far. Its sweet. But it also shows how harrys almost amazed that she is still able to consentrate when shes clearly upset wub.gif there are a few more moments on those last to pages alone but that would mean basically coping the whole page out. And I'm to tired for that tongue.gif

QUOTE
... Harry generally joined her in the library, which meant that their conversations were geld in whispers.
-Page 285

This is the point were my imagination has seemed to get the better of me. I read that and I could just see the two of them hudled into a corner whispering into eachothers ears...*sigh* of maybe in an upcoming fanfic. But still a good moment none the less.

Okay thats all for now I have more but I'll post those latter smile.gif

I'm reading straight through the book now, and everytime I see a H/Hr moment, I write it in notepad with a page reference. Here is what I have so far:

pg 90 - "She was watching him as though expecting strange symptoms to manifest themselves at any moment. She rearranged her features hastily in an unconvincing smile" - We just saw Hermione for the first time in the book, looks like she was expecting him to show a bit more emotion towards here than he actually did(see: none)
====================================
pg 96 - "Hermione was peering into Fred and George's boxes, thought every now and then she cast sideways looks at Harry." - Looks like she thinks Harry is attractive.
====================================
pg. 186 - "Hermione turned to Harry with a radiant expression and whispered, 'Did you really tell him that I'm the best in this year? Oh, Harry!'
'Well, what's so impressive about that?' whispered Ron, who for some reason looked annoyed. 'You are the best witch in the year -- I'd've told him so if he'd asked me!'
Hermione made a 'shhing' gesture, so that they could hear what Slughorn was saying. Ron looked slightly disgruntled." - Harry complimenting Hermione, Hermione getting radiant, Ron getting jealous.
====================================
pg. 219 - "...said Hermione, suddenly impatient. 'It's not Quidditch that's popular, it's you! You've never been more interesting, and frankly, you've never been more fanciable.'
'...--- well, come on, can't you see why people are fascinated by you?'
Harry was finding the Great Hall very hot all of a sudden, even though the ceiling still looked cold and rainy.
'<i>And</i> you've been through all that persecution from the ministry...but you stuck to your story anyway. . . .'
'You can still see where those brains got hold of me..look,' said Ron, shaking back his sleeves.
'And it dosen't hurt that you've grown about a foot over the summer either,' Hermione finished, ignoring Ron.
====================================

Bolding mine. We now(finally) have CANNON PROOF that Hermione finds Harry attractive.

I started crying when I realised harry had feelings for Ginny and the book had started off so promisingly.I just want to bring up one little thing.( This is my own theory of course so you decide whether it is plausible.)
In the half blood prince chapter we see harry's first glimpse at what he desires (ginny) it says, "They were the most seductive scents harry had ever inhaled. Somehow it reminded him simultaneously of treacle tart, the woody smell of a broomstick handle (ginny plays quidditch) and something flowery he thought he might have smelled at the burrow."

Ok yes we know harry likes Ginny but what is interesting is hermione's reaction to the potion.
"...it's supposed to smell differently to each of us, according to what attracts us, and I can smell freshly mown grass and new parchment and--
But she turned slightly pink and did not finish the sentence."

What I find intersting about this is that Hermione smells freshly mown grass. The only person who has ever been mentioned to be around freshly mown grass is harry because he is the only person who has mown grass at all. I don't think that Wizards would use lawn mowers either. Now the parchment has me in a bit of a puzzle but I'm thinking that Hermione corresponds with harry by letters so maybe she uses new parchment to write to him or him to her online2long.gif I dunno. Just thought i would add my thoughts. I'm still waiting excitedly for the 7th book because it will just be harry ron and hermione (i think) so that gives plenty of time for them to realise their feelings right? To be honest that bit where harry goes to the room to see if hermione is ok when she sees ron and lavender, I though they were going to kiss or something but then Ron came in grrrr

While this is possible, remember that Hermione also corresponds with Krum, and has for 2 years now. Of course JKR did her infamous interruption thing again and didn't give us the last thing Hermione smells. This would have helped tremendously. For all we know it could have been the perfume Ron gave her for Christmans in OOTP. It was very unusual.

"No" said harry, "No, I suppose that's true. But wasn't that dishonest, Hermione? I mean You're a prefect aren't you?"
"Oh, be quiet" She snapped as he smirked

"Nothing" said Harry and Hermione together

How about she feels attracted to all boys. The mowed grass (harry) the parchment (krum) and the Maybe perfume (ron) Hermione seemed very agitated and confused in this book (not to mention dead annoying to me what happened to her)anyway enough of my ranting I think I will read OOtp and enjoy the many h/hr moments.

Man, there's hope left.
Honestly, I think that there's something going on, there must be... everything seems so OOC.
Voldie Jr.
There's a whole other book waiting for us to read, dear shippers. There were STILL those subtle Harry and Hermione moments that Ron is jealous of (I can't quote now, don't have the book handy) and while Ron and Hermione sure do seem likely, they don't go out. And Ginny is out of the picture. I think at least. IfJK Rowling can suddenly have Harry like Ginny, then it's certainly possible that she can have Harry realize he's liked Hermione all along in one book. Just have faith, and keep digging. Remember, everyone felt bad for Snape after Order of the Phoenix. Any sympathy for him now? Don't count anything out with JK!
sunshinebelle
I really really reeeeeeeeeally hope a good essay writer (that is also a h/hr fan) comes along and uses some evidence from the book to write a shippy essay about H/Hr and say that we're not sunk yet.
I'm sure it's possible.... come on you beautiful persuasive essay writer types.. I know we have a lot of you here... work your magic and give us Harmonians faith again!!!

Gah, don't have my copy with me at the moment (eating yummy rice and don't want to spill it) so I don't have an exact quote, but after their first DADA class with Snape, Hermione said that Snape had sounded like Harry, and quoted something Harry had said. Harry was then surprised that she bothered to memorise what he'd said, as if he'd thought the only things she deemed important enough to memorise word by word were books. And Hermione definatly loves her books (or should I say loved? fake hermione seems to be more obsessed over boys), so I was glad that it put Harry on the same level, because she always seemed to trust in books and the library. This is probably my shippy side pulling at straws, but I thought of it as a good moment on the first read-thru. (quite possibly the only read-thru T-T)

I like the part after that when Ron tries to get Hermione's attention by saying that if he had of been asked, he would of said it, but Hermione keeps her attention on Harry! Harmony!
AmericanMione
QUOTE(Page 180-181 US Edition)
"Well," said Hermione, "I thought he sounded a bit like you."
  "Like me?"
"Yes, when you were telling us what it's like to face Voldemort. You said it wasn't just memorizing a bunch of spells, you said it was just you and your brains and your guts -- well, wasn't that what snape was saying? That is really comes down to being brave and quick-thinking?"
Harry was so disarmed that she had thought his words as wekks worth memorizing as The Standard Book of Spell that he did not argue.

That scene, kaitsurinu? I went back to that scene a couple times to keep me strong in my support of H/Hr. *dramatic music in the background* wub.gif

QUOTE(Page 183 US Edition)
They chose the one nearest a gold-colored cauldron that was emitting one of the most most seductive scents Harry had ever inhaled: Somehow it reminded him simultaneously of treacle tart, the woody smell of a broomstick handle, and something flowery he thought he might have smelled at the Burrow.

Oh, and moogle, before you get too worried about Harry smelling things that reminded him of Ginny, think about something: these are all just things that make Harry happy or feel loved, not necessarily with or by Ginny. I don't really remember a mention of treacle tart, but treacle fudge is something that Hagrid often serves. And true, Ginny plays quidditch, but so do Katie Bell and Cho and yet nobody seems to think about a relationship between Harry and either of them, right? And besides, we all know Harry loves flying. And that smell from the Burrow? The Weasleys are like family to him; of course he would know and love the smells of their house. Remember how in CoS he saw the garden and thought that the Dursleys would hate it, but he himself loved it and thought it to be perfect? Well, that just shows that he likes the idea of a normal family to love him.

So I hope nobody gives up hope! There's still another book and it's not like HBP didn't have it's share of H/Hr moments.
firestorm701
YES!!

Moogle and Sadistic Shadow!!

you guys think like me!!

i was hoping i wouldn't be the only one to pick up on that hint!
HarrylovesHermione
For half of HBP, I was convinced that Harry would go out with Hermione but when the sentences of Harry thinking about Ginny, they wouldn't get together in this book. Ron and Hermione don't have many similarities in the books, so i'm surprised at how JK could've flung it out of thin air without anything backing this up. Harry and Hermione on the other hand, have many similarites such as:

Relates to James and Lily.
No siblings.
etc...

I'm surprised it took me a short while to read HBP. It took me twice as long to read OotP because I wanted to remember all the H/Hr moments but JK only included a little bit in HBP. We shouldn't give up hope yet because there is still book 7 to read...
MasterofVoldemort
One thing that itnerested me is that it never actually said that R/Hr got together. Thene there's the H/G breakup at the end. It seemed a lot to me that JK wasw deliberating forcing these two ships in there so that she could do a massive twist later.

The three big ships have been H/H R/Hr and H/G, and now she's forced two down our guts practically. It was very uncharacteristically obvious, which leads me to believe that JK is going to twist it into H/H in book 7

I hate to burst the bubble, but Hermione's never been anywhere near Harry when he's been forced to mow the lawn, so she would never associate him with that scent. Personally, I associated freshly mown grass with the Quidditch Pitch - which could have meant either Ron or Harry (or Krum, for that matter).
phantomwitch
Funny, I was suprised when Hermione said freshly mown grass. I never really saw her as someone who loves her muggle home, as she doesn't spend much time in it, and its not like we hear about wizards mowing. I loved when she said fresh parchment, it was one of the few things about her character that rang true for me. The missing smell...in my opinion it has to be whatever scent Harry or Ron wears. That would be a good enough reason for her not to say it out loud, and she would recognize it in a way Harry didn't. Of course, Slugwhatever said that true love cannot be manufactured, so I see the smell of the potion to be who you are physically attracted to, not your soul-mate material.

In all, if Rowling wrote this to be taken at face value, then I think she tipped to many of her cards. Nothing was really subtle throughout the book. She made Harry think that Ron and Hermione like each other, whether by reality or by magical influences. Harry's pangs about Ginny seemed a little too blatant to be more than a physical attraction.

Even better. I noticed, this was before the ship hit the iceburg, that Hermione played Quidditch. So she rode a broom. Hah! The smell of the Burrow...had Harry ever been there when Hermione wasn't? And treacle tart? He's always eating treacle tarts and fudge around Hermione.

And Hermione's scents include freshly cut grass and new parchment.
She always helps Harry with papers...and when has Ron ever cut grass (magic!)...whereas Harry cuts grass in book 5 (if I recall correctly). Yes, she may have jibed us with the hippogriff tattoo but she threw us this delightful bone.

And Hermione got awfully mad with Ginny during their argument of the HBP textbook. Dare I call it jealousy?
Occilus Reparo
Harry and Ginny's break up has given me hope. And a little hope and faith is all you need. And though there has been a little jealousy or as I call it insanity on Hermione's part, well, I mean c'mon, how long to you think Ron and Hermione would last, huh? dry.gif They'd tear eachother apart in a week. I am NOT giving up on this! There is one more book to go, and a lot can happen in a year when you're 17!

Harry and Ginny breaking up and Harry, Hermione and Ron leaving together only says one thing to me. She has to pick one of them. And Heaven willing it will be Harry!

It has to be. There is too much evidence supporting this, guys! It's possible the only reason JKR put Harry with Ginny *shudder* is to scare the life out of, well, BOTH sides, to be fair.

So I leave you with the immortal words of Garth Brooks, (thus cementing my reputation as a complete geek.)

I will sail my vessel
until the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
these waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
Until the river runs dry.

nerd.gif Keep the faith, people! Ginny was a speed bump on the road to true happiness!!
hhrea
Just joined today so I could see reactions. I feel more or less the same way as most of you, but I think the JKR bashing should end. Yeah, I thought the characters were OOC. Yes, Harry suddenly finding himself digging Ginny rang false. Yeah, I don't think Hermione would hook up with some guy either. But it's not our book. It's JRK's.

That said, I think one of the more interesting (possibly h/hr) parts of the book is when Harry considers-briefly- the Hermione/Ron relationship.

I'm too tired to skim through the book and find the page number (if some one knows it, feel free to help out), but the only thing Harry really thought about was what would Ron/Hermione's relationship be like if they dated then split up.

Again, too lazy to look for the page. I think that thought might have been in context of another breakup, but still, that's the only thing he thinks. "What if they break up?"

Obviously, I would have rather Harry thought something like "oh no!", but I still think its noteworthy. Could it be a hint of things to come?

As many of you have pointed out, there's still one more book to go.
weatherbee
Much like hhrea above, I joined to gather the general reaction. For some reason, I do not find myself panicking when taking H/Hr into consideration. The break up at the end of the book between Harry and Ginny did not have anything that suggested that they really cared one way or another. Though Hermione gave knowing looks about Harry and Ginny kissing at the conclusion of the championship match, I also should note that R/Hr never got started once more in this book (though many hints suggest it should).

I still hold faith in this ship. Despite the soon to come R/Hr essays suggesting HBP is THE book for their ship, the ship itself for them never set sail. All relationships, I think, are going to be seriously tested in the next book. Take note of Hermione's reaction when Harry was leaving with Dumbledore towards the end, and you shall see why the ship has hope. smile.gif
twyster
Honestly, I think I'm in the minority here. Yes, HPB was by no means my favorite book and yes, I thought at times that Hermione was ooc, but I thought we had some really good friendship moments.

I mean the little things, like Harry spending time with Hermione in the library, him thinking of her, the slight "voice of reason" thing, her totally seeing that Harry liked Ginny. Altough I thought they were way better in OotP, its not as if they're not friends.

Oh yes, and for some reason, my favorite H/Hr thing was them argueing about the possibilty of the librarian/Filch. tongue.gif

The bit where he asks about Hermione when he's at the Burrow was like a big neon sign. And that bit where she sits on his bed and he asks her how she is. Not Ginny or Ron but HER!!!

I just remembered one of the parts I had marked.

When Harry is going off with Dumbledore to seek out the locket, he's telling Hermione and Ron what to do if he doesn't come back or something, I love it when he says something like "Hermione, don't look at me like that."

It seems like Harry goes to Hermione to fix things for him.......

I've only read (okay, skimmed) like 300 something pages of HBP but there's a part where Harry finds Hermione in a deserted room and two twittering yellow canaries are circling her head. Is anyone else this far? More clues to H/H? What do you think?

Hermione turned to Harry with a radiant expression and whispered, "Did you really tell him I'm the best in the year? Oh, Harry!"

I like the part after that when Ron tries to get Hermione's attention by saying that if he had of been asked, he would of said it, but Hermione keeps her attention on Harry! Harmony!

You know what I so totally agree. At least SOMEONE appreciates Hermione for Hermione and not this Halloween transformation from some scary place person. Is it just me or is the Ron/Hermione ship based on complete nonsense? At least they had some good points before but now... I'm like hold up let's rewind and pretend I didn't read that.

Exactly! Thanks pal, for re-build my confidence! Thanks...and I will add some lines: thumbup.gif

We will keep the faith between us
If we only try
We will keep the truth inside us
Love will never lie

I mentioned this before, but I'll ad it here too. Is it possible that Hermione was trying to make Ron jelous, so she could date him, make Harry jelous, and then get to be with Harry?

Actually, when I first read the book, I really thought that H/Hr would happen because of all those subtle hints in the beggining. I really coudn't believe it when... when... (gods, I can't even get myself to say it!).

*sigh*

But then, as I've always told myself, 'Pumpkineers never lose hope.'

Well, hopefully. crying.gif

It's H/Hr. I just bet my friend $20.00. I'm seriously feeling so much better now. It's going to be Harry and Hermione. It's the only one that fits.
