Well despite the sinking of canon!Harry/Hermione, I did still find a few Harry/Hermione moments here and there, even at the very end of the book. But I swear, at the beginning, it was screaming Harry/Hermione all over.
Let's start with a few, shall we?
QUOTE
"...At Hogwarts, for instance -"
" - you can't Apparate anywhere inside the buildings or grounds," Harry said quickly. "Hermione Granger told me."

I got really excited, seeing as to how Hermione's the first friend/person mentions. And the fact that he remembers what Hermione says is a big plus too. He keeps doing that, you know.
And a few pages later...
QUOTE
"One of my best friends is Muggle-born," said Harry. "And she's the best in our year."

While the "best friend" bit wasn't exactly good, I really liked how Harry manages to bring Hermione up in the second conversation he has after leaving Privet Drive. And you'll like Hermione's reaction to this.
QUOTE
Hermione turned to Harry with a radiant expression and whispered, "Did you really tell him I'm the best in the year? Oh, Harry!"

And in the third conversation he has (with Mrs. Weasley), he brings in Hermione again.
QUOTE
"So Hermione's here?" he asked happily as he tickled Crookshanks behind the ear.
- pg 83, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version

While the "happily" may be attributed to being happy at tickling Crookshanks, I like to think that he's thinking about Crookshanks' owner.
If the rest of the book never existed, I would have said that we stood a pretty good chance. Honestly, there was more Harry/Hermione at the Burrow than there was Harry/Ginny, so I honestly don't get how this happened:
QUOTE
He felt a strange twinge of annoyance as she walked away, her long red hair dancing behind her. He had become so used to her presence over the summer that he had almost forgotten that Ginny did not hang around him, Ron and Hermione while at school.
- pg 131, The Slug Club, UK version

Like I've said in the chapter discussion... Why didn't JKR put in more Harry/Ginny to show us exactly how Harry got used to Ginny being around, if it's meant to be so significant? It really doesn't make sense to me.
But let's temporarily put aside all the Harry/Ginny and focus on the Harry/Hermione, shall we?
QUOTE
"Were the Muggles all right? Did they treat you OK?"
"Same as usual," said Harry, as Hermione perched herself on the edge of his bed. "They didn't talk to me much, but I like it better that way. How're you, Hermione?"
- pg 89, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version

- pg 89, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version
I admit that I put this in mainly because of the bed part. Hehe. But then again, Hermione does show a bit of concern for Harry, so I suppose it counts.
And this one caught my attention, though it's not particularly H/Hr:
QUOTE
"Fleur's not stupid, she was good enough to enter the Triwizard Tournament," said Harry.
"Not you as well!" said Hermione bitterly.
- pg 93, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version
"Not you as well!" said Hermione bitterly.
- pg 93, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version
The "bitterly" part sort of gets me, in a Hermione's not happy that Harry thinks that Fleur is not bad too, kinda way. Maybe I'm just delusional and reading too much into it, but I thought I'd put it in anyway.
QUOTE
Hermione was peering into Fred and George's boxes, though every now and then she cast sideways looks at Harry.
- pg 95, An Excess of Phlegm, UK version

Taken out of context, I'd say that Hermione has a thing for Harry, but in the context... It probably was because Hermione was trying to see how Harry was reacting to talking about Sirius. But hey, isn't she the only one who seems to care or bother about that?
