Personally I think That Draco and inny belong together. They make such a cute couple. The Slytherin and the Gryffindor. Match made in heaven

Er...I know this is the corniest reason ever, but it was how I first came to be interested in D/G, and the best reason I can come up with at the moment. Not to mention I'm a bit dazed and confused right now.
I suppose the fire and ice, Gryffindor/ Slytherin, Malfoy/Weasley...thing... can be appealing. Although it has become cliched -.- At least you can look forward to a few good banterings, witty comebacks from both sides and a mysterious snog at the end.
I don't really know what it is about the ship I love so much--maybe because there are so many talented writers in that field coming up with amazing D/G stories?
*shrugs* Maybe because I have a soft spot for the blonde git.
Ah, well. The reason remains unknown.

That's the truth... I have a soft spot for Draco ^^
And when I first read a H/Hr, there was a side couple of D/G and I got kinda interested, so I read most of the D/Gs on ff.net. About ten to twenty fics later, I was completely hooked cause it was amusing to read, unpredictable at times and...well... Absolutely adorable too ^^ Anyways, that's all I'm gonna say for now, maybe I'll say more later =\

I blame Shakespeare.
I was trying to read
Much Ado About Nothing and sketch assorted Harry Potter characters at the same time, and I got this little idea in my head of Draco and Ginny doing a Benedick and Beatrice routine. I started playing around with that and poof! Draco/Ginny shipness was born. I've always been a fan of snarky couples, and that's how I see them. Not particularly mushy or romantic, just snarky and a lot of fun.
As someone said, it's a little cliched, but so what? Cliches exist for a reason.

Hey
I love D/G but one thing has always puzzled me. Why is it that this pairing above all the others seems to be labeled as kinky or active? Does anyone think they could keep their hormones in check?

Jun 13 2003, 06:50 AM
Because fanon!Draco, you have to remember, is a total sex god.
I suppose we expect Draco to be making suggestive comments all the time, not to mention snogging Ginny senseless every few minutes.

Yeah, it does have a lot to do with Fanon!Draco being a sex god. He's a sex god no matter what character you pair him with - het or slash, he's always dead sexy.
And Ginny... well, excuse me for saying so, but I mean, look at Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. They must've shagged like rabbits to get as many kids as they've got. Which means there's something in the Weasley genes that erm... drives them.
Yeah. I'll just... let you use your imagination.

Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh! Draco is in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM a sex God. I really despise that generalization, but I suppose that's why many people seem to think D/G is kinky, because there's Draco.
If you want to go on fanon, the reason they are so kinky/active is the fact that he's beyond sexy (although in canon he has a rather ugly nose and no one pays hima any attention but Pansy) and Ginny has the mad Weasley temper (which she has ever shown a smidgeon of once). Also, they are usually steriotyped as bad, and somehow bad people always get it on. And you have the face that she is supposedly a Vixen deep down who is waiting to be released and is a twisty bobcat pretzel (to quote two weeks notice) in bed.
Don't know why they would be kinky though. I'm guessing it's just a reflection of what the authors like and how they behave in real life. So there's my two knuts for you, you can take 'em or leave 'em.

I don't remember him being described as having an ugly nose - I remember pale, pointy face, but it haaaas been a long time since I've read the books. *sighs, breaks them out again* And anyhow, we don't exactly expect Harry [whose POV the books are written in] to describe Draco as sexy - even if he really is. At least, I know I don't expect Harry to describe him that way. Many do.... *shudder*
I think they make them kinky because everyone goes off of the FANON impression of Draco [sex god, dead sexy, whichever term you prefer] and write that into a romantic scene with the FANON impression of Ginny [hotheaded, "closet-vixen"] and - slam, bam, thank you ma'am may I have another - they're kinky.
Who knows. I just read it.

Hi
brandnew fan here, and french, so excuse the mistakes. Well, i always said that the name, Draco, itself, is damn sexy and myterious. I mean, i never heard such a weird and attractive name. And Malfoy is so.... high society, old name, very old french name.
Besides, i can't help but seeing a little of Spike (from Buffy) in Draco : same hair, same personality, saying mean things. Maybe that wasn't what JKR was expecting, but i can't help if for me, Draco and Spike are very much alike, apart from the vampire thing. I even read a fic where Draco was called "mini-spike".
The sex god ? well, is it true that JKR had to give her approval, about the actors ? have you seen the guy who plays Lucius Malfoy ? my, if Draco is supposed to look like his father while growing up, HE IS GOING TO BECOME A SEX GOD. And Tom Felton isn't bad himself. I just read an interview, in a french magazine, where Jason Isaacs was talking about PoA, i believe. He said the movie was shot during Valentine's day, and that Tom Felton got more cards than anybody else !!
I mean, i love Ron and the Weasleys, but the Malfoy father and son are much more handsome, in the movies.
Lolita
Jul 2 2003, 12:52 PM
Hm, I have wondered about that too. I think it has to do with Tom Felton (

) Because before the movies came out all we knew about Draco was that he was a stuck up git with a pointy face (Harry POV) I agree with xmag that both Malfoys are soo handsome. Especially Draco

ROTFL! I laughed hard at this, well written!
Anyway I think that they could be nice together, in my theory (I have a personal theory about HP which I built this winter and came out even stronger after having read OotP) Draco is a Taurus and Ginny is a Capricorn...Taurus and Capricorn are very good together, even if Capricorn may have a thing even with Lions... but even Virgos can be good with Lions (above all if the Lion is the man, you know what I'm hinting, right?
). I swear I'm not blabbing of nonsense...
Are you wondering from what I took Draco being a Taurus and Ginny being a capricorn? Well, think at it.
Harry Potter --> born July 31 1980, he has Sun in Lion and Moon in Pisces
Ron Weasley --> born March 1 1980, he has Sun in Pisces and Moon in Virgo
Hermione Granger --> born September 19 1980, she has Sun in Virgo and Moon in Capricorn.
Now, don't you feel it's a bit a circle like thingy? I think that we'd just need:
a ) someone with sun in capricorn and moon in leo
B ) someone with sun in capricorn and moon in ---something--- and someone with the sun in --something-- and Moon in Leo
to have a circle.
Now I've had a look at the Moon in Leo:
"You always want to be proud of yourself and will never do anything that will make yourself look bad. You need the respect and admiration of others and enjoy attracting attention to yourself. Everything you do tends to be self-emphasized and self-exaggerated. Very stubborn, willful and independent yourself, be sure to allow others who are close to you the similar right to "be themselves." Your need for love, affection and reassurance, and your tendency toward vanity, allow you to have your head easily turned by flattery. The more insecure you are, the more you tend to be a showoff. You love games and sports as a matter of fact, you would usually rather play than work. Be careful of a tendency to be snobbish and uppity -- it does not become you."
Don't you think that this is the most precise and accurate description of Draco Malfoy ever?
then it would be funny if he's a Leo in the moon, because since Harry's a Leo in the sun this would mean a total negative polarity between them. Funny huh?
So I had a look at the Sun in Capricorn:
"Extremely serious and mature, you are capable of accepting responsibilities and do so willingly. Others expect you to be dutiful as a matter of course. You tend to get angry when people get rewards after not having worked anywhere near as hard as you. You are goal-oriented and an achiever by nature -- you're a hard worker and are justifiably proud of the tangible results of your efforts. You tend to have "tunnel-vision" -- this allows you to block out extraneous matters that might distract others and to concentrate totally on the matter at hand. As such, you are the ideal one to manage or administrate any ongoing project and to be practical and efficient at it. You are not a fast worker, but you are quite thorough. You are known for being totally persistent, tenacious and tireless in reaching your goals. "
I see it very Ginny like... and definitely NOT Draco... (and I'm not talking only about these few words, but also about all the Capricorn profile which I have at home, but in Italian, I can't translate a full book!).
So I thought about this theory... what if we had a true circle of 5:
Harry/Ron/Hermione/Ginny/Draco as:
Sun in Leo Moon in Pisces/Sun in Pisces Moon in Virgo/Sun in Virgo Moon in Capricorn/Sun in Capricorn Moon in Taurus/Sun in Taurus Moon in Leo?
This would be a good circle of elements and this would say that Ginny's born the 15 of January of 1981 (which IS possible, thinking that Ron is born the first of March) and Draco should be born April 23 1980.
I can't have evidences of this theory in Canon, but NOTHING in Canon also says that it's not true
and then... taurus and Leo are NOT signs who can stay close without fighting... taurus are VERY ambicious and you know what? They love the colour of green
This is a small bit of my theory... which is the scheleton of one of my fics... yes, you're right, I try to look for too many details to write, maybe... but I want that what I write is as more precise as possible. I hate it when I find something I misinterpreted!

True Lolita, as you said, the Harry Potter Books are from Harry's point of view. He isn't going to notice whether Draco is goodlooking or not since he hates the guy. Only person he ever described as good-looking was Cedric and that was because he was jealous of Cedric due to the whole Cho thing.
I kind of like how the movies point out that Draco may be different to the actual characters in the book (I mean Harry can be biased in how he perceives each character) and it gives me hope that there is sometheing deeper in the characters apart from canon (Harry's POV).
The whole Lucius digging his cane into Draco's shoulder, I kind of thought it looked like Draco got some corporal punishment when he's "naughty" thus making me think, "Draco's got to have some humanistic side to him".
I mean look at Book Five, Draco looks like a complete git. Immature, annoying, I can't even call him witty in his sarcasm. Depressing since I wanted to know if he had grown up at all. So basically the movie shows a kind of "voyeur" effect when looking into the HP world, not just Harry's POV.
Just me rambling

I can just see the fanart ideas now... a graphite sketch with Draco's cloak billowing in the wind, a large dragon looking him in the eye....
Yeah, too many plot bunnies over here, don't mind me. But JKR likes to play with names, I mean, Harry's name means powerful and Voldemort means death. So I always wondered why Draco. Is he mean and nasty like a dragon? Or is it something more?
Dun dun *dun*.
Also, is Ginny's real name Virginia for sure? Because you know, Virginia means virgin and they sacrificed young virgins they thought were witches to 'dragons'... hehehe. Naughty thoughts...

From: http://www.behindthename.com/nm/h.html
HARRY m English
Pronounced: HER-ee
Medieval English form of HENRY. It can also be used as an Anglicized form of HARI.
If you look for Hari you get:
HARI m Indian
Means either "brown, green" or "lion" or "monkey" in Sanskrit. This was another name of both the Hindu gods Vishnu and Krishna. It was also borne by the son of the Garuda, the bird-like mount of Vishnu.
Isn't it funny that Harry has GREEN eyes, he's born under the zodiacal sign of the LION and under the chinese sign of the MONKEY? (1980 is the year of the Monkey, I'm not joking...)
And yes, this site says that Ginny is the nickname of Virginia.

I like them together because they're such opposites and because they don't have that sappy, rather passive Romeo-and-Juliet quality I see in some other Slytherin/Gryffindor pairings. Look at Ginny in OotP. She's feisty and a lot like her brothers, which means that she has a sense of humor and a temper. If by some miracle they did hit it off, there's no way he could walk all over her. Beatrice and Benedick, anyone?
As for why Draco instead of some other random kid, he interests me because I simply can't see him as Death Eater material -- not because he's inherently good at heart, but because he's too selfish. Can you imagine a kid who's had his way all his life kowtowing to Voldemort, who may decide to off him anyway? Not so much.
Also, most of my other ships are very happy ships. D/G has the potential for lots of anger and angst and misplaced lust. I don't see it as a particularly long-lasting ship so much as a dysfunctional one, and I love it for that. Bring on the love-hate and the rapid-fire snark, I say.

I don't dwell in current Harry Potter ships. I tend to stick with the classic Marauders, because it opens up so much opprotunity. Lately though, I've been reading up a bit on this Draco/Ginny pairing and it's by far the most intriguing.
We know virtually nothing about Ginny and Draco we seen through biased eyes. The entire pairing is so ironic and typically Rowlings, because no one would expect them. I see the Draco/Ginny situation as something of a mystery with a million possibilites. I tend to picture a slightly altered Ginnt whose suffered from anger and jealously her entire life. She's overshadowed by her six brothers and no one ever pays attention to her, not even the author. We don't know what really happened to her while in the Chamber of Secrets. Draco is in Slytherin, which means he has ambition, but it doesn't mean he is technically evil. We know that he's cynical and bratty by the way his character is portrayed. Though Rowlings does show that he is spoiled, unloved, and raised by a follwer of Voldemort, meaning he's been brainwashed since birth on how to act, what to think, and who to associate with.
As I stated above it's an ironic pairing that pleases the senses. Fire and Ice, two things that don't mix, but are typically put together. Even their looks complement one another.

Draco/Ginny fanon, before the movies came out that is, wasn't all about the sex. They were two students, who didn't hump like monkeys at ever chance the got, but instead they had real relationships. Now days people use the actor who plays Draco as the person they model their story after, and in the long run they forget all about the books, which is the foundation of their story.
I'm against the rabid sex Draco/Ginny stories, as am I against writers who write Harry Potter fiction without really reading the stories, they miss the important things that deal with the story.

Well, everyone has basically used all my D/G arguments already...
I basically write it for three reasons.
1) I get to be creative, these characters have a tiny bit of a personality but they can easily be altered and we've never been given a look inside them, we only see them from the outside in canon. Therefor, we still get to pretty much make them whoever we want them to be.
2) They are my two favorite characters and I just can't see them with anyone else.
3) It's a challenge, to get two enemies to not only talk to each toher, but to fall in love as well. What's writing fanfics if it's simple and boring? I love the challenge.

Draco/Ginny fics are so well, delicious, mainly because you never know what to expect. you have two characters, neither as developed as say, Harry or Ron or Hermione, and a bunch of horny authors. No, I'm serious, that's it. Authors can play with these characters because we don't have enough insite about them just through Harry's POV.
But also these two characters create an angsty setting without much work, something people love. Draco is tired of lies and not being able to trust and Ginny is a relatively innocent Gryffindor with a bunch of spirit and a lot of love to share.
I'm not saying that JKR will ever pair the two together in the books (god knows i'd probably have a heart attack and die of joy if she did) but it's always fun to imagine the two together.

I really like D/G because it has the whole Romeo/Juliet feel, and for the fact that i only find their paring interesting. I have to admit that I really hated Draco at first (when I started reading the books) but, sadly, I've grown to love the snarky little git! ^^U And when it came to Ginny, I was so happy with the way people seemed to portray her character. I mean, being a younger sister too, I knew there had to be SOMETHING in ehr personailty that just screamed "HEY IM GINNY!" so I dove on it. Tried a few fics.....
yeah, I jst realized what you guys said. I think there are a lot more well-written D/G fics out there than with other pairings. Maybe it's because a challenge brings out the best in people....*shrugs*

Hmmmmm, why Draco and Ginny...there are sooooo many reasons. I agree with the statements about these characters being underdeveloped. This allows for a certain amount of liberty taking by authors. We don't know anything about these characters, really, except for what lies on the surface or what has been discovered through their interactions with the Dream team. There is also the potential for a tremendous amount of chemistry between the two, played out so well in many stories. All the great couples of the past that have been loved by many have also been opposites and "fighters"...Han and Leia, Beatrice and Benedict (as stated earlier!)...Draco and Ginny would have that quality. The forbidden aspect makes it all the better. There are soooooo many directions that the relationship could go in (good Draco, evil Draco, good Ginny, evil Ginny...etc). Did I mention the sexiness exuded by the character of Draco...many talented authors here, I must say...

| Draco/Ginny fics are so well, delicious, mainly because you never know what to expect. you have two characters, neither as developed as say, Harry or Ron or Hermione, and a bunch of horny authors. |
I totally agree with you on that!
Plus, we are forced to be way more creative than, say, R/Hr shippers, because not only do we have to think up a reason for them to meet, we have to think up reasons that they tolerate eachpther, spend time together, and eventually fall in love.
You cant just have Ginny suddenly turn to Draco and say "I think I have loved you since I met you" like you can with the trio. [All though some inexperienced authors have unsucessfully tried to pull this]
D/G rocks!
