Well the votes are in, they have been counted, so it is time to announce the winners of this season's Portkey Reader's Choice Awards (Round 4)!

But first ... a big thankyou to all those who have made these awards possible. Firstly, to Darkstar and Joyce who had the brilliant idea in the first place, to the Admins who let us go crazy with this every season (particularly Nappa who puts up the lovely banners for us!), to gal-texter (Pen) who kept me sane and offered lots of advice and assistance where she could, the Portkey Staff (particularly Ri) for their assistance, the readers who made the nominations so that all the other people I've just thanked had something to do, and the nominees, who if it weren't for them, the readers and the staff would have nothing to do. It is a joy to read your work, and these awards are a thankyou for your efforts.

Personally, I really need to thank those who picked up on any screw-ups I made (and I did make the occasional doozy). You know who you are, and I am very grateful for your help. smile.gif

Now here are this season's winners!

Winner, Best Novel Length Fic (JKR AND AU, H/Hr): The Triumvirate of Resolve by Vicarious Leigh (JKR)

Winner, Best Short Fic (Angst, H/Hr): Tragic Little Hero by cheering charm

Winner, Best Short Fic (Humour, H/Hr): After the Morning After by kyc639

Winner, Best New Author (H/Hr & Non-H/Hr): danielerin (H/Hr)

Winner, Best Novel Length Fic, (JKR AND AU, Non-H/Hr): House Unity: Lessons (D/G) and House Unity: Questions (R/Lu) by where_is_truth (AU)

Winner, Best Short Fic (Smut, Non-H/Hr): Portkey Party by Sarea Okelani (D/G)

Winner, Best Short Fic (Humour, Non-H/Hr): Ron's Admirer by Goldy (R/Lu)

Once again, a huge thankyou and congratulations to all of you!

Note: Meanwhile, you'll notice that there is no winner listed in the Best Short Fic (Fluff, H/Hr) category. The reason there is no winner listed is that in this category we have a tie, and in the event of a tie we have a tiebreaker to decide the final winner. So head on over to the tiebreaker thread and vote so these two Authors can relax! biggrin.gif

Edit Feb 13 2005: Tiebreaker: Winner, Best Short Fic (Fluff, H/Hr): One Simple Thing by Demosthenes

EDIT: NOW I GET TO GO READ TWO MORE FICS AND VOTE ON THEM! SCORE! tongue.gif

*doesn't have much time, so she'll not play with the fonts*

Congratulations to all the winners!

Everybody who was nominated for this seasons's awards can count themselves a really great author (except for myself, because I don't like praising myself and seriously think I'm not - thank you to whever voted for my fics, though, I didn't think I'd get a single vote biggrin.gif)!

I know that some exceptional works were posted and nominated here, but they'd be for naught if they didn't have so many wonderful readers and fans, so, as one of the Mods who helped starting all this, I'm gonna had out hugs to everybody who participated in this in any way. It's so great to see so many votes and nominations being issued, it truly is. Makes me so proud of PK and PK-ers wub.gif

A very emotional Ri, who would not object to a bap on the head to get her back to be her normal self

Meanwhile, hugs and love to everyone heart.gif

Thanks to everyone who voted for The Snitch and Scratching The Itch. Honestly, I just took napalmnacey's story and turned it on its head, from Hermione's point of view. I wouldn't even have had a story had it not been for Nancy's brilliance. So all the praise for that pair of stories belongs to her. But thanks again to everyone who voted for those 2 stories (which were up against some pretty stiff competition). Most of the H/Hr finalists are friends of mine and it was an honor to be considered in the same breath with them.

Hey Everyone!

First of all, congratulations to all the winners! Your awards are well-deserved! sorcerer.gif

Secondly, I’d like to take this opportunity - since unfortunately I haven’t been around here much lately and didn't get a chance to do this before - to thank the wonderful souls who nominated me: gal-texter, CryHope, Joogie, Victoria, Demosthenes, Egla, and Dashara. Even though I didn't win, I appreciated the nods very much and was very flattered just to be grouped with such fantastic authors.

And thanks also to those who voted - not just for me (though every vote was much appreciated wink.gif ) - but for all the nominees. It’s a joy just to be able to share my stories, and I find it a miraculous thing sometimes when others find joy in them!

The last few weeks have been really tough for me. Portkey has been like a lovely beacon shining out there, reminding me there are reasons to smile. Thanks to everyone - the helpful and friendly mods, the talented authors, and the wonderful readers - who make this such a wonderful site to visit!

Cheers,

Andie (pottergirl786)

Ahhhh! Congrats to all! I'm slow - didn't get to vote for Goldy's fics, nor Vicarious Leigh's or Cheering Charm's (speaking of which, I accidentally hit "Null Vote" instead of voting for her fic in the tiebreaker... grr). And I thought I could procrastinate creating a forum account until now whistling.gif . Congrats to all the winners - more good stories I must read. There's some calculus homework calling my name, though... sleeping.gif

Hi Andie!

Nominating you was a most obvious thing to do! smile.gif You're a fantastic Author as well and I love your stories, read them all (In Pieces being possibly my favorite one) and I only wish there were more of them. I know you write as much as RL live allows you to but well, everyone can dream. smile.gif

I also wish there were more PK awards so we weren't torn every time we have to make a choice. biggrin.gif

Yesterday I read in the summary of The Summer of Reflection you had a very sad reason for pausing this story. I'm so sorry. I hope you'll be better soon and I send you a lot of good thoughts.

Take care!

Congrats to all the winners, the way categories were shuffled together this time made it difficult to vote but everything turned out ok in the end. Keep up the good writing!

Congratulations to all the winners! *raises a glass to you*

Thank you so much to the people who nominated and supported my work! I was very honored to be included with such wonderfully talented authors, and am so glad that I can call many of them my friends. They have been a huge help to me along the way, giving encouragement, suggestions, and advice. I love spending time on this site and can't wait to read more of everyone's work, so keep it coming!

Cheers!

I just wanted to say thanks for the support here on PK. This round's nominees were an imposing group of authors and I'm honored to be listed in the same breath with all of them. I appreciate the response to both TOR and Reprieve and am glad you enjoyed them smile.gif

Just wanted to pop in to congratulate Nielle and Ri on the job they've done here (yes, I was paying attention, despite my relative scarcity).

It's great to see that this tradition has continued on, and that the quality of fanfics has diminished not a whit. A very big job well done and congratulations to all of our contestants and winners.

It's times like this (Grammys, Academy Awards) that remind me why the PK Awards were started in the first place. In a time where the biggest hype surrounding real world award shows is what people are going to be wearing, it feels good to know that the PK Awards, which were meant to be something built on pure merit alone, keeps right on going, and keeps gaining popularity.

And everyone, keep writing. It's a special thing, I think, when such a quality of the written word is a labor of love alone, as there is very little tangible reward in this line of work, and we write simply because we enjoy it and enjoy that others enjoy it. Thanks everyone for the stories they've given us and the windows into imagination they've let us peer through.

Verbosely,

Darkstar
