Ok, before I get bombared with "JAMES WAS A CHASER!" comments, let me explain myself.

I was thinking the other day, and I ran upon this train of thought: The interview that says James was a chaser came out before OotP or the PS/SS movie did. Is it possible that JK changed her mind between then and now?

She's done it before. Michael Corner was a Hufflepuff in her original notes, but when he entered the book, he was a Ravenclaw.

She's allowed to change her mind. What if she did?

Also, J.K. reads the scripts for the movies, right? Why would she let them put something incorrect into the movie? [edit: I meant something incorrect that was apparent from the scripts, and not part of special effects. (that werewolf was utter blasphemy)]

[Edit: Another thought: Maybe he started out as a seeker, and as he grew older and didn't have so much of a "seeker" build, he "graduated" to chaser? Granted, there's no indication in canon that players switch out of the seeker position when they get too big, but again, just a thought.]

Just a random thought I wanted to share with you all biggrin.gif

You do make some good points, but I'm just not seeing it on this particular subject.

We have JKR saying in interviews that James was a Chaser, and that he was playing with a Snitch because it was more impressive. There are other things that have been allowed into the movies that not only aren't canon, but directly contradict it (look at the difference in Lupin's appearance in wolf form, Hermione's birthdate, etc.)

For that reason, I don't really consider the movies canon. Just a lot of fun. biggrin.gif

I cannot stress this enough

CHASER CHASER CHASER!

Normally I wouldn't care but I get so sick of idiots (yes they are) reviewing for Pensieve, telling me that James was a SEEKER, and telling me I've never read the books and should write better!

You know, maybe THOSE PEOPLE need to read the books AND the interviews of the author a little more closely before they bother me with crap they saw in the movies which have more than one canon errors to them. Honestly!

Sorry, sore spot

She said he was playing with the snitch because it was more impressive? I was almost positive that the interview she gave came out before OotP. I thought that the "more impressive" snitch theory was a fandom theory.

That's definitely a good point. Though, i don't remember Hermione's birthday in the movies . . . what film was that in? (I'm loosing my touch here, gah!)

Amen to that!

Assumining you mean SEEKER instead of CHASER, I can definitely see where you're coming from. The people that base their arguements solely off the movies bug me to no end as well.

The Smart Ditz, my reference to Hermione's birthday being wrong comes from the 'extras' on the CoS DVD. There was a timeline that gave her birthday as Sept. 19, 1980 (making her a few days from turning 11 when she entered Hogwarts in 1991) while JKR has just announced on her site that Hermione was already 11 when she started at Hogwarts and - therefore - was born in 1979.

Sorry, I should have explained that!

Well we all know the movies are very liberal with any canon facts, I just watch them to drool over the boys and to poiint out all the mistakes usually(I'm a true fan of the books though.)

The assumption that James was a Seeker came solely from the movies and is entire speculation and no matter when she said it(JKR that is), it is still a fact that James was a Chaser and no one can change that(though they can keep their own illusions in their little minds)

I don't think she changed her mind, she just waited a bit to reveal it, as she does with many things. She doesn't have to reveal everything at once does she?

However many canon facts they distort in their movies, the truth always lies in JKR and her books. A lesson learned: don't trust the movies without looking at the book first. rolleyes.gif

EDIT: mehhh...i knew i must have said something stupid, now i know what. rolleyes.gif *feels stupid* thanks for pointing that out, Gems

Yes I agree with most people I don't consider the movies as having any influence on canon at all. It annoys me when people justify there ship through things in the movies. Plus I've never been a big fan of the movies.

Anyway until everyone pointed out this whole James as a seeker thing I hadn't even noticed it I just always thought he was a Chaser. Yeah I don't pay any attention to things. But as I said I don't particularly like the movies. So yeah while I can see your point that she's changed her mind before I don't think so in this instance.

Oh and Julie do you mean the fact is James is a Chaser? You wrote seeker.

yes, you all do make interesting points. I like the idea that James graduated from Seeker to Chaser but he's porbably just playing with a snitch because it would look stupid to play with a quaffle and he was trying to impress.

Am I the only one who says Seeker? smile.gif Yeah- I like that better. I mean- In the movie it DID say "James Potter Seeker" and I think that the book said Chaser- But I like the idea of Seeker better! biggrin.gif
