Ok, due to the fact that I was getting very depressed that this forum hasn't had ANY posts in 4 days, (and the last posts were made by me) and also due to the fact that it's the holiday season, I got to thinking: would the Potters celebrate Christmas? Or Hannukah? Or any other holiday? Is there anything canon suggesting they celebrated Christmas? I seem to want to remember a mention of Harry's first Christmas, but that might have been a fanfic.

**desperately hoping the L/J forum will revive itself**

Actually there are quite a few times that they mention Christmas. Harry got his invisiblility cloak on Christmas as a matter of fact. Chapter 23 in OotP is called "Christmas on Closed Ward"..so yep they celebrate Christmas. smile.gif

Hey Chee yeah the L/J forum is pretty slow at the moment.

Anyway there is stuff in canon which suggests that the celebrate christmas. They call it christmas holidays and in PS Harry gets christmas presents from the Weasleys and Hagrid and even the Dursleys.

Easter is also another Christian holiday which is mentioned in the books. In OotP Ginny see Harry and says that there Mum sent easter eggs for all of them and Harry. So yes they probably would've celebrated Christian holidays.

Yep, they would have celebrated Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter, but like a lot of people in modern times probably not in a particularly religious manner. More as a reason to give gifts and spend time with friends and family.

Yeah, I think that the probably celebrate Christmas and Easter too since they went to Hogwarts and it's celebrated there. I just don't imagine them not beleiving in that stuff or believing in anything else

There was never any reason to suggest that Lily and James and the rest of the crew would be excluded from hogwart's Christmas season, so I think it's safe to assume they at least celebrated, in some way, shape, or form, Christmas.

Now Easter I'm not certain, I don't recall the books ever mentioning Easter, but I've been wrong on many occasion before. biggrin.gif

Now I think Hannukuh and those holidays are out the question. My reasoning is(don't be offended or anything but.....) People who are not religous(as wizards don't appear to be) tend to celebrate Christmas in wintertime if they celebrate any holiday at all. Plus the fact I know for certain no Jewish or any other holidays except Christmas and a few others have ever been mentioned in the books.
