On the Harry/Hermione board we've started planning a wedding, and I thought it would be fun to do the same for Lily and James. You know, figure out all the details and everything. Like cake, ecorations, outfits, placecards, everything!
What do you guys think????

Hmm, I think robes would be the clothing of choice at the wedding. I'm sure Lily would have a somewhat muggle style to her dress but I think it would definately be a wizarding event. I've seen a couple pictures of Lily drawn in a gown and James in a tux and that didn't work in my mind. I guess I think Lily would be a bit like Harry and be more comfortable in the wizarding world than with the muggles.

I think there would be a
heavy emphasis on red and gold as the colors for the wedding. After all it's a Gryffindor event.
I think an outdoor wedding makes the most sense. That's just what I see, a beautiful summer afternoon. Maybe they even got married on the Hogwarts grounds (I could see James insisting upon being married on the pitch but I doubt that would go over very well.

). I just think that it would be neat since they did meet at school and it's not like there are classes over the summer. I could see Dumbledore totally going for this and the whole school would probably have been invited anyway since they are so popular. (I think I know what I'm going to write in my fic...

)
Do you think Dumbledore has the power to perform marriages?
Okay, well that's just what I think would be fun to see. If I come up with something more I'll mention it.

Oooh, the cake is gorgeous. And I like the Quidditch pitch thing ... I can see that happening. And as for Dumbledore performing marriages ... well, this is the wizarding world. Unless the weddings are going to be done completely in the Muggle world, things are going to be different. I imagine that if not Dumbledore, someone from the Ministry would do it. Or something.
One thing's for sure: I canNOT see them getting married in a church.

Ooooooooo. The cake, 'tis lovely. I also love the pitch idea, it's just so James-ish. Or what I imagine to be James-ish. I can't see the church happening either, but I don't know about Dumbledore performing the ceremony, he seems more like the kinda guy who would just sit in the back.

Red and gold colors would be great!

Bordering on the whole "red and gold" theme, maybe it should be by the lake in autumn.

I totally agree on everything. Notice how they had earrings down at the bottom?
Here What about those for Lily?

I

all of it.
Upon rethinking it, I really can see where the Great Hall would be better for the ceremony. But the Quidditch pitch was funnier.

Think about it.
It's just ... funny. The idea of a wedding on the Quidditch pitch. And so very ... James. Or how I imagine James, anyway.
Perhaps I just have an odd sense of humor.

i know that you wanted Lily to have a robe, I found this gown that had longer sleeves and a resemblense to a robe, I thought it was really pretty and you don't have to use it I thought that I should just show you because you might like it.

Wow people REALLY seem to like the idea of a pitch wedding (I thought that was just supposed to be a joke or something). Anyway, this is all making me want to get married...um, I'm glad Jon doesn't read these things...
Yeah, now I want to write something really romantic.

It was a funny joke. Therefore we perpetuated it.
Hmm ... like I said, I

the dress, but .. I'm not sure if it's right. Perhaps it would depend on what James is wearing.

Oh Lord no. I hate James in a tux. Wizarding robes all the way!
We're going to have a problem finding those on the Net though. Once my scanner is back up, I'll draw a rough sketch, I guess.

yep!yep! I definatly see Lily in that wedding dress!

It's simply yet elegant. But maybe it's a bit TOO simple? maybe if there is some silver designs on it. I dunno. I doubt there's a dress with silver designs on it in the style of the dress you mentioned. can anyone find it? Also to steel lily, the egagement ring is awesome but maybe the band should ne silver to match the wedding band? it would sorta be odd to have the wedding band and the engagement ring to have different colors. Or maybe you can change the bands to gold that way it'll match? Anyways thats my opinion!

I've always pictured their wedding outdoors, like with a pretty scene in the background and an arch thing with flowers on it . . . I don't know how to describe it, grr.
I've always thought Lily would have worn a gown, not robes. But the gown resembled robes, like with pretty floaty sleeves *Sighs* And I always picture James in a tux. . . .
I would never ever be a good witch

The Quidditch pitch idea is cute, but I don't think Lily would have given in, but James (with the help of Sirius?

) probably would have tried his hardest to convince her!

Redheads often look good in gold... I could see Lily in a gold gown, instead of the traditional white. It'd make sense for James to wear robes, but I think he'd also look quite handsome in a Victorian-style suit, maybe a cravat at the neck.
Outdoors would be nice - my parents were married in my maternal grandparents' backyard in spring, with all the flowers in bloom. Lovely. I have no idea though how that might work in England... they get a bit more rain than California!

Redheads look good in gold? That's a new one... lol... I'm a redhead, and I look *terrible* in gold! Then again, I have grey-blue eyes; maybe green eyes help.

Well, it's not an absolute rule of course.

Skin tone, eye color, etc. all play in, as well as what shade of red. Someone with lighter red, more 'orangey' hair would look good in different colors from someone whose hair was more auburn.

Jan 24 2004, 05:06 PM
Yeah, it would... I can see your point there.
Anyway, I was looking for a dress, and found two that are okay, but not exactly what I pictured.
Gown One Gown Two. For James and Lily's wedding, I pictured her wearing a long-sleeved silvery-white gown with NO LACE (sorry, I've a thing against lace ^^) and without a huge skirt. Just kind of flowy and simple.

Feb 29 2004, 11:39 AM
lol, I can't see Lily in lace either...it's more a Petunia thing <has vision of Petunia marrying Vernon in a meringue-like dress with lace trimmings all around>....hee hee hee....
I always pictured Lily in a gown instead of robes, seeing as she's Muggle-born...but would her wearing robes symbolise her embracing the wizarding world or something? Argh, I think too much!
I LOVE that bridesmaid's dress! Apple is the best in my opinion, with Hunter a close second...there are too many nice colours!
I think Lily and James's rings should be very simple...so simplistic, yet symbolising so much! Yes, I think far too much about symbolism and things...I really need help...
I agree with the 'flowy' thing...not a puffy princess skirt but not a really tight one (this IS our hero's mum!).
For some strange reason, I always imagined wizarding worlds having cuffs as well as rings - you know, cloth tying each of their wrists together in some symbolic way (darn, there I go again...). My sister had that when she got married, but she's a bit of a hippie...

Ooh, this is way to cute. I'm in love with the idea of a Qudditch Pitch wedding: it's funny, it's James.
*bats off plot bunnies*
It's really hard to imagine what the wedding would be like, given the situation. Didn't the war start almost as soon as they got out of Hogwarts? I can guess that Lily and James would want to have a kind of secret wedding, or at least one that not very many people knew about. Rather sad, if you think about it!
Those gowns are absolutely beautiful!
This picture, by the wonderful Marta, sums up my thoughts on outfits pretty well:

Just thought I'd put in my two cents. (I'm a muggle. I have cents, not knuts, not sickles, because I’m not sure what I’d do with them if I had any anyway!)
Wedding Dress:
I don't know if you all have decided on it yet, but I (being the wedding dress aficionado that I am) had a few ideas.
Gown idea # 1:
http://www.fairyfashion.de/lancl/lancelottdisplay.htmlIt's got a sort of robe-y feel to the sleeves, like the one posted before this, but is more ornamental.
Gown idea #2:
bodice of gown Full picture of gown This gown I could definitely see for an L/J wedding. It’s ornamental, but not overly so, so 1) she wouldn’t have to worry about the hem so much outdoors, and 2) it would be ideal for a time where people’s biggest concern was not a wedding, but the end of the world as they knew it (due to Voldemort).
Just a question: are we planning a wedding that would take place during the time they would have got married (with Voldemort rising to power) or just planning a wedding that would have taken place had it been under normal circumstances?…
For flowers, the joker in me came out . . . . . we should put lilies in flower pots on all the tables. You know, Lily, and then
Potter . . . my goodness that was a TERRIBLE pun. >.<
Anyway, that’s all I can think of at the moment.

I find it to be more realistic to have a sort of "end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it-but-let's-get-married-anyways" sort of thing, but I'd prefer to have a happy, traditional weding. I think it's be great to have Lilies in pots, it's cute and symbolic!! I'll try to find some dresses if I have the time...

I feel so ashamed, but I really loved Lily in
this or
this. Personally, the former is my choice. ^.^
I also love
this engagement/wedding ring for Lily.
For the cake [I do love the earlier selection, though], these popped out of my mind.

Ah weddings!! Love 'em. So full of love.
Well for Lily & James, I would put rose petles down the isle and roses all around the place. I would situate it in an exotit garden with frangipanies and LOTS of roses (of coures).
I saw in my fav shop, Soul, the most BEAUTIFUL dress in there. It was white with ribbin tie down the front and it was made from a soft velvity matirial with a matching cloak. It was as white as snow and as soft as an invisability claok.
It is Ideal for Lily.
James, a nice black or white tux would look fab. Sort of like the tux Fred wore for his P.O.A premiare, only a bit whiter.

Thanks.....Phelp Phan
