If you look over to the left of this message, you'll see two buttons that are links to my ff.net profile and to my portkey profile.

Is it just me or does anyone wonder about the pirate and the angel there? Are the administrators telling us something about the two sites? Let me know please!

NOTE: The icons have since been replied by a light bulb and a pencil, for the fanfiction.net and fanfiction.portkey.org profiles, respectively. Click here to learn how to make those icons appear. smile.gif

NOOOOOOO! I love Fanfiction.Net more than any other site on the planet - well less than portkey, but I AM biased. But a lot more than FictionAlley. The thing with the images is this >> neither site has a small I con I could use. So I used the ideas >>

1. Pirates = ships = goes to lots of different ports ( Lots of fandoms - has unplesant things, as well well as has done unpleasant things -- removing NC17)

2. The Angel = Heaven = Portkey's 1/3rd admin Heaven biggrin.gif.... see it makes sense.

That is my statement regarding this. But hey! You guys are quite welcome to ponder if I was subconsciously affected. wink.gif

Suuuure, Nappa. We believe you. You sure there's no hard feelings after they took your precious NC-17 fics away from you? I seem to remember alot of people taking that pretty hard. Anyways off to read some lovely R/Hr smut.....

How to link your author profile with your forum profile

Congrats to our authors! If you insert your Portkey author ID number in your forum profile (near the bottom), you'll see a pencil icon appear below your avatar. Just like the one I have
<-----------

though I'm not a writer -- I had set up my author account solely to assist me in writing How To's and FAQs.

Anyone who clicks on that pencil icon will be taken to your PK author profile.

Author ID #?

I'm not sure if this belongs here in the newbie guide, or in the fanfic section...so if it's in the wrong place, I hope someone can tell me where to put it!

I was just approved for my author application, but for the life of me, I don't know how to find my author id! blush.gif I tried to search for author id, but the search function goes wonky when I put in a word consisting of less than 4 letters! I haven't uploaded a story yet, so I can't just do an author search. Do I have to upload a story to get an author id, or am I just over looking the obvious in trying to find my id #?

thanks!

author id and story id are in the url of the author links or story links.

This is your author profile page, the bolded number is your author id

What's your fanfic user ID number or author ID number?

Once you find that out, enter that number in your forum profile's Portkey fanfiction user ID number field, to make the pencil icon appear on all of your forum posts.

Your Portkey author ID number is the same one as your fanfic user ID number. There are several ways to find out what it is:

See ID # from PK's fanfic control panel:
- useful if you haven't uploaded any stories yet or left signed reviews.

1. Log in to http://users.portkey.org (this is the control panel)

2. In middle pane > Your User Stats, look for the Userid number.

When I do step #1 for my test account, I see the screen captured in this post's Part III-B. Its ID number is 27772.

(My real account's user ID # is 2100, which is what you'll see when you click on my pencil icon and do the step below.)

See ID # from PK fanfic profile:
- applies to those who've already uploaded a story.

1. In fanfiction.portkey.org, click on the author's name (that's hyperlinked).

2. This will take you to their fanfiction profile page.

3. Take note of the number at the end of that page's URL.

This screencap shows PK admin Heaven's author profile. Her ID # is 46.
