Hi PK authors,

I've been wondering about these questions for ages. I suppose this is the best place to ask them. To make it easy for anyone to answer, simply copy and paste the template below onto your posts.

If you've got more questions, go ahead and ask. If you've been accepted only recently (congrats!), then you can celebrate here! thumbup.gif

As a lazy Fic Mod, I notice and/or get told about the following answers:

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

Whooped for joy?

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

At least one said she never received her acceptance email. Then one time she logged on to her fanfic control panel (users.portkey.org). She squealed when she saw the "Author Options" menu.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

I always smile when I see stories uploaded merely hours after I've approved them. Such enthusiasm! biggrin.gif

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Peer pressure? IPB Image The emoticons? devil.gif Some kind of deal? devil.gif (Max, where are you?!)

I grinned very widely and felt my heart jump. I don't care if it's not biologically possible! It did happen!

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

I got an email. One of the best ever. wink.gif

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

*thinks* Two hours? Maybe a little more.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

I love Pumpkinpie and I love writing about it. PK had a vast amount of great stories on its list, and I felt that I would love to be included among such a lot of talented authors.

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

Ah well I can't really remember when I got accepted but I can tell you I was surprised, utterly and completely surprised that I was accepted. Because I send in a rather not so well betaed vision of the very first smute fic I ever wrote. I still can't believe that I got the authornumber 269 but there are now what over 5000 more authors that is uncanny.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Heaven which fics I always adored and someone where I rather look up sent me a really nice e-mail so I knew right away before I got to the site I was accepted. Hmm I don't even know if it were at that time so noticeable, though.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

Uh, thats hard but I believe I posted the same chapter just a couple of hours after I got the approvel. Uhm well it got directly so about 17 reviews, just I was so stupid and deleted this story accidently so you'll never read the nice, really nicest reviews I got since I post my fics here.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?
A guy called Mola made me write once a smute-story almost one and a half years ago. We chated and he asked why I don't write such stuff uh and well I told him I'm no good in it but someway he got me that far to give it a try. After that I needed someone to beta it, guess he was the one who did so.
Since it was NC-17 I needed to become a Portkey-author or I couldn't have post it at all though I did it anyway on FFN but ssh I got punished for it. The only time ever that I was banned anywhere on net for 3 weeks.

Pen, do I need to answer these? You know my story probably better than I do! tongue.gif At the very least most of this is probably well documented at Wonky.

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

My jaw dropped.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

I honestly can't remember if Pen told me before I got the email. Regardless, my jaw still dropped at the email.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

Again, can't remember that well, but am pretty sure it was the same day.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

The first question is a loaded and lengthy one. I came to PK to read fics, certainly not to write any. As to the second one, Pen knows it was peer pressure and getting "caught in a thingy of my own thingy". tongue.gif But PK Author... still funny about calling myself that.

Nielle, wondering where the time goes.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Email and email. With comments from Pen. *happy dance*

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

Oh, I did it right away.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Erm... I faintly remember finding it by chance, and then saw the D/G forum and was like, "oh, joy!"

'Cuz everyone (namely Nitya tongue.gif ) was pressuring me. tongue.gif

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

After the confusion wore off, I was very happy and proud of myself, since I had to apply a couple of times.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Randomly logged into my fanfic user controls, and saw the autor options list.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

Less than five minutes.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Portkey hosted all my fave pairings, so I automatically bookamrked it. The fanfics were(still are) of good quality, and the people seemed friendly so I decided it would be nice to post here as well. thumbup.gif

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I remember going through my usual buckloads of emails from various Yahoo groups and reviews when I came across The Email. I think I just smiled and was really pleased.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites?  Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Emails are usually what makes me aware. So yeah, emails.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

*scratches head* I dunno, it's been a year(literally)! I either posted it on the same day or waited a while...

4.  What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Well NAPPA's FFN profile directed me this way and I just visited the fanfic side for... months. Then as I joined the forums as a newbie I came across the message that said to apply. I shrugged and decided to try it out. To my surprise I was accepted...

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Er....E-mail I think.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

I think it was like a day..maybe a little sooner.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

I was "lured" on when I saw that it had J/L shipping. I didn't feel like becoming an author until I talked with Romy (Angel-Wing) and she encouraged me to give it a try.

Honestly, I hardly remember.... tongue.gif

Oh come on, you knew we were going to accept you! I mean, at least 2 Fic Mods --Pat and myself-- invited you here! I even made a note in a Wonky Thread Index #__. It said that I'll let Pat approve your application since he volunteered to do it. He said, "if you [apply], let me know so I can approve [your application]".

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I was shocked, happy, and amazed at the same time. Honestly I wondered why I had been accepted. Oh, and not to mention relieved because it finally worked, thanks to Pen.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Erm...I think I got the email first, went through said emotions above, and then checked out the author's panel.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

I had to wait a day, I think, because my betas weren't done reading my first chapter. dry.gif

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

What lured me to Portkey originally was the new and exciting experience of meeting a bunch of HP fans online. I had never been on a message board before and I wanted to see what it was like. Best thing that's happened to me in years.

As for why I wanted to become a PK author...I was pressured. Some people read my ficlets and said I should, so deciding it wouldn't hurt to try I went ahead and tried to send in my application. Complete chaos. After spending some time in school PMing Pen we discovered that the apostrophe in my username was screwing everything up and she helped me fix it and send in my author's application. So really, all thanks goes to Pen. smile.gif

Jennifer

You're welcome. While re-reading this and other posts in 2008, I had the idea to make this H/H Ficlets Archive. People, go look for Jennifer's stories in there!

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

Well, I didn't react really. I was ONLY reading fanfic on FFN when last summer I decided to venture out.. I found PK, saw you had to apply, did, and then forgot about it.

Got my acceptance email, didn't remember what it was, went back to PK to find out, and thought "oh cool fanfiction."

So not a very big reaction.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Email. Again, I didn't even remember what Portkey.org was when I recieved the email.,

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

I think I looked around the site a bit, was amazed at the fact that there were other fanfic sites JUST for Harry Potter that aren't scary like FAP, and maybe uploaded my already completed fanfic a few days later. I was like "Hey, free reviews."

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Well, like Crys said kind of, I was interested in finding more out about HP fanfiction, and I found a site that actually FAVORED D/G. I was like "Now this is some cool stuff."

And I became a PK author because it seemed logical to me. I applied before I even knew what the site was really. Definately before I chanced joining the forums.

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?
Well, I cried in joy for a few minutes, opened a bottle of my finest wine and drank it all in one sitting. Then I went outside and announced to my neighbors through megaphone that I got accepted into the best H/Hr website in the world. I did this until the police arrived... I think the neighbors ship R/Hr... mad2.gif

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites?  Which of these indicators did you notice first?
T'was the e-mail method. Simple as that.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?
Now this is embarassing. I attempted to the same day, but couldn't figure it out a the time (it was July of '03 when I got accepted). Real life took a hold, and then I tried again in November and got it to work. Yay!

4.  What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?
I was sick of all the ...poo... that was floating around on FF.net. I was also frustrated that nobody would review stories on there (except for the really horrid ones, which they seemed to love for some odd reason). I found PK and was instantly in love for a safe haven for H/Hr shippers, because it seemed that R/Hr was everywhere. I wanted to be an author because I had some stories lying around from my FF.net days and I wanted to give them out to a more specialized audience and see how they liked them. I am happy to report that I got four times the reviews on here... cool.gif

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author? yay! as always, when i'm accepted anywhere with my writing, i was very, very happy, but had to wait until my parents left the house before i could totally bounce off the walls for joy biggrin.gif

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first? the email, i think, it was nearly a year ago and i don't actually remeber much about that.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side? like 2 hours :-D i was really excited

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author? I saw a link mentioning portkey at ff.n and i was like "oh cool, another fanfic site." when i got here, i saw that it was a shipping site and it had all my favorite shipped and couldn't quit smiling and i haven't left since. and i became a PK author simply because wherever i can because i love to see so many people reading what i have written. :-D plus portkey kicks compared to mostly every fanfic site i've ever been too, i live here now hehe

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

Had cold clammy hands and you know the kind of smile that grows wider and wider by the minute until it basically reaches up to your eyes and you just need to squee... that's how I reacted. Dorky, but true. Hehe. blush.gif

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

I received an e-mail.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

A couple of months? I'm not sure exactly how long. I had a bad case of nerves. I love Portkey too much, I figured if I'm going to post something it shouldn't be the cause of my being kicked out of here.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Mainly because it supports Harry and Hermione. Plus, the time I discovered Portkey, all the sites that I have ever been to supported Ron and Hermione. I was just really glad to find PK! And, for me, PK is the most user friendly H/Hr shipper site and everyone is just so kind and lovely. I just had to be a Portkey author because for some reason (and I wonder why... rolleyes.gif) I keep on writing H/Hr fics and never get them anywhere (except for ff.net) and well, I thought it wouldn't hurt to share the fics to fellow H/Hr shippers.

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?
Well actually, i forgotten which email i gave for the Mods and then like nearly two months later i logged onto that and saw that there was an email from Portkey! I was so excited that a grin wouldn't leave me face for the whole day!!
2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Well, i must admit , that PORTKEY is probably the best place to post your stories. The readers are excellent and they post encouraging reviews rather than flames. I like how all of the members stick together and try to find theories for our favourite couples!! The whole atmosphere is very amiable... smile.gif

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I've been accepted heaps of times but I keep getting rejected because my stories are NAPPA/Ron, not Ron/Luna sad.gif so I renamed the Ron/Luna catagory to NAPPA/Ron smile.gif Mostly I cry at rejection. Sometimes when I'm testing the system I forget to accept or reject my application and a mod goes ahead and breaks my heart. Being rejected as an author for my own website sad.gif

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Well I guess it was hinted to me that I might be a Portkey author when I accepted my own application. I was really surprised to see I had userid #1 and it flattered me biggrin.gif

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

Well one time when I was accepted I uploaded NAPPA/Ron immediately, because I needed to test the doc upload system. I "accidently" forgot to take it down, and got 40 reviews for each story. I was so proud. biggrin.gif

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

What lured me to Portkey.... This is a difficult question. Well just before Portkey was made I was up for hours and hours, many sleepless nights, and then suddenly it was online and ready. I was so surprised to come across it. I was the first person to ever visit the website, even before it was online at its current web address. I was so proud.

I became a Portkey author because nobody else was, and I wanted to be different. Then I become one because my author status had been removed, but NAPPA refused to test my doc upload script so I had to apply again sad.gif

I remember gasping and being in a state of shock. I honestly couldn't believe it; but I felt really elated later on.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

When I logged into my fanfiction control panel and saw the Author Options menu. Needless to say, that was a passing out shock.

About two weeks or more.

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I got on an adrenaline rush; both me and my friend had been accepted near the same time and we were jumping up and down. I had been waiting a good month or so, and I was nervous as hell. Just as I was going to post in a forum about when I'd know, I got an email. I was grinning like mad ... only to see I had to re-send my ficcies, but then I was accepted! *dances*

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Email notice, wee.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

What lured me ... probably some of my friends being on here, such as Bethy(Phoenix_Song) and Vicarious Leigh and Cheering Charm ... they're always talking about PK, so I started reading stuff and well I love H/Hr, I had no choice but to apply tongue.gif That and people kept nagging me to lol

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I was really excited, and kept muttering "yay" under my breathe because it was in the wee hours of the morning, and everyone was asleep .

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

I noticed Email first. I check that first, then go to PK [which is my Home Page, btw ^.^]. I was expecting to be rejected again *shakes fist*, lol, so when I read "PK Author Application Accept...", I was like, "Boo yeah!" in my head of course biggrin.gif

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

*laughs nervously* About two weeks or more. I was quite busy for weeks, and I just didn't have time to edit and proofread all of the fics I wanted to upload.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

I actually don't remember how I stumbled upon this wonderful site, but ever since I found it, I kept returning for more H/Hr. I couldn't believe something so wonderful as a site devoted to my favorite ship [and other great ships] existed! And mind you, this was before OotP came out. So many H/Hrs had their own opinions on anything and everything H/Hr, and it just delighted me. Here was a website that loved H/Hr as much as I did. A link probably brought me here, but it's the people [including the ever vigilant Admins and Mods thumbup.gif ] made me stay smile.gif
I wanted to be a Portkey author because Portkey is just so full of H/Hrs, I thought it might be fun. Mind you, I'm not really so confident on my stories, but there was one story I wanted H/Hrs to read, hoping they were once Roswell fans, or at least had heard Sheryl Crow's I Shall Believe. I was proudest of that short fic, so I was confident for that blush.gif

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

Actually ... truthfully ... I swear ... I was COERCED into becoming a Portkey author. user posted image

As I recall ... certain people (especially a certain green-eyed girl with blue glasses) literally threatened to EMASCULATE me if I didn't join ... so, being the God-fearing, scared-to-death-of-dominating-women person that I am (why else do you think I am so enamored with that bushy-haired, know-it-all Hermione Jane Granger?) ... I quickly sent in my application after receiving the Howler.

(love you, nic user posted image)

Of course, when the reviews started pouring in when I started posting rolleyes.gif ... added to the fact that it was so much *easier* posting here than at my other site smile.gif ... and all the new friends I made over here ... what's there not to heart.gif about Portkey?

Applauded myself =P Well I just found out about 5 minutes ago, so I'm still happy about it!

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Randomly logged into my account and saw Author Options, then I checked my email.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

I still haven't uploaded anything - I'm nervous about the quality of it; there are so many great authors here already!

Edit: well I bit the bullet and uploaded the first chapter- so I suppose it took me around an hour to do it from the time I found out I was accepted.
Also, thanks to whichever mod read and accepted me! You made my day =)

A Harry/Hermione essay someone referred me to. I got around to browsing all the other forums and fanfics here and I loved (and still love) it all. Finally I got around to registering on the forums and fanfiction section, the plot bunny attacked me, and I decided to get writing. sorcerer.gif

Reaction: *dances around in circles in disbelief* user posted image

I remembered being very surprised to receive the seal of approval within 24 hrs because I had the impression that everyone was really busy during the time I applied. I totally expected to wait obediently for days and weeks, so when the email came ... WHEE!

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

The email.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

I went to upload my chapters immediately but met with tricky technical problems, so in the end, it took a few days. But better late than never!

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

I first came to Portkey because you left a message on my review board at AT telling me that my fic was recced here. That was how I ended up poking around this place.

And I went through a big struggle deciding whether or not to be a Portkey author. On one hand, I am completely superficial: I love the layout and the fonts, and the EMOTICONS (Very, very important factor) and the fact that PK seems to have very good traffic and I would like my fic to get more exposure. On the other hand, I had a hard time understanding the complicated rules for side-ships, and then deciding how I should adjust the side-ships in my fic to make them acceptable to PK. But the trouble is all worth-while. PK is now my favourite host for fanfic because the uploading process is so straight-forward.

I know that this is not the place to ask this, but as a fic mod I'm interested: complicated as in...? I know that some people are confused about this, but which part exactly? What might need to be rephrased to make it aboslutely, totally clear what is allowed and what isn't?

It would be nice if you could take a look at our fic criteria and tell us what seems hazy to you in order for us to change what needs to be clarified. That goes to everyone who reads this thread, and not just Karen Noelle, by the way smile.gif

*reminder to self: the matter of side-ships still needs to be discussed*

HAHAHA! Now that explains everything. I remembered when I sent the application, I got a message telling me that it would be a looong wait 'cos the queue was super looong. And then I got the email when I woke up in the morning telling me that I'm accepted, and I was going "if this is what they call 'a long wait', then they are really efficient!'. Hee. Now I know the real reason behind it. *cackles*

QUOTE (Ri)
I know that this is not the place to ask this, but as a fic mod I'm interested: complicated as in...?

I think the sideship part of the list of regulations is difficult to understand because it is lengthy, which makes it a little daunting to read through. You know how new writers are like when they tread unfamiliar grounds: nervous to begin with, and even more nervous when they try their hardest not to commit faux pas. I read every line in the paragraphs with a magnifying glass, and re-read everything several times over. So at the end of the day, I was user posted image. So I think it would be helpful if the side-ship rules are stated in a succinct manner. For instance, All fics on PK must contain H/Hr, or No fics on PK should ship Harry or Hermione with someone else as the heading, before going into the explanation.

The main confusion arises in the clauses that state that (1) the ships with (*) cannot be broken or contradicted in the fic (and my main concern is, of course, the unbreakability of H/Hr), and (2) go on to say that graphic scenes between two characters that contradict the (*)!ship are not allowed; which, in my case, leads me to wonder if that means I can write B/Hr so long as I don't describe at length the initimate scenes between them. It's quite fuzzy when it comes to what a writer can and cannot write about, and to what extent. It would be helpful to clearly state the rules: Either (1) you cannot write a fic with H/someone-else, or Hr/someone-else, or (2) you can write those ships, but no graphic scenes. With (1) stated, (2) will be redundant. Stating both in the clause confuses people like me (who are looking for loopholes because my fic depends on it whistling.gif).

Then, there's the problem with the term "contradict the ships with (*)". It's not clear how one judges if a ship is contradicted. Say, if I end my fic with the beginning of a B/Hr, but did not mention that they got married, had children and lived happily ever after (thus leaving the possibility of a future breakup and therefore still leaving H/Hr as a possible ship in my fic's universe), does the B/Hr in my fic 'contradict' the H/Hr unbreakability rule? I know I am kind of complicating the whole thing, but I've been looking for loopholes to convince myself that my fic will be 'legal' in PK when I was struggling with the decision to become a PK author, so I basically psycho myself into thinking that so long as I keep the B/Hr fuzzy and keep Harry het, I can post BT on PK. Treading on very fine line here, but it does seems to be within the rules. Correct me if I'm wrong, alright? I may have to make yet more changes to my fic if my reading of the rules is wrong.

Um.... well, see, I think you applied during the time where we had so many apps that submissions were actually closed, and all the ficmods (especially Sarah and Pamela) worked as many apps as they could, and we were done surprisingly fast. Nobody thought it was gonna be that fast. So there...

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I stared at the screen and went "Huh? They actually accepted me?", then I became very proud over myself and walked around with a goofy grin the rest of the day. tongue.gif

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Uh... I got the acceptance e-mail.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

I tried to upload one about two minutes later, but apparently it didn't work (I didn't notice, though), so I had to upload it some few days later.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

I got a link from someones fic I read and though "Cool! A fic mostly for H/Hr-ers!" and I after a while I thought I might as well try...

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

Just thought it was cool. I had enough confidence in my work and was positive that it'd be good enough to get posted here.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

Acceptance e-mail.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

About 16. I didn't check my e-mail 'till the following morning.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

The tones of H/Hr fanfiction and the readers who enjoy reading such fanfiction.

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?
I was pretty happy... but not really ecstatic. I mean, i've got other author accounts... but yeah, Portkey is a pretty big place, whch means a lot of people would read my fics.

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?
Through Email actually... I found out at school just before I was about to go home. So I couldn't get on Portkey straight away.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side? about ... actually not even one. I found out in last lesson of school, about 2 minutes before the end, then got a lift home, then went straight on the net to upload it.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author? Well, I sort of searched for Harry and Hermione in google and came up with portkey. I saw it was so big, so I thought 'Hey, I bet that's a friendly site.' and joined.

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I didn't believe I read it quite right so I reread it and found out they accepted me. Which is really great, because Portkey has some really high quality fics, and they accepted me, the one who has poor grammar and lots of typos, to be one of them? Of course I had some goofy big grin on my face after rereading that. I'm so happy sorcerer.gif

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?

I was about to go to bed and thought; 'Ah well, what the heck' and checked my e-mail. I was surprised that they replied so fast.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?

Errhmm, I think about 10 mintues. Haha, I just did a little spelling fixing on some words and posted my first story on Portkey.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?

When I was searching for DG fanart, I stumbled upon Portkey. Yet, even though I could already see this site was pretty large, I didn't know they shipped DG tongue.gif So when I found the site again a few months later, I stumbled onto the forms. Portkey is just one happy family .. you all converted me to be a H/Hr shipper, lol. So PK is friendly and nice and I thought why not post my stories here? I mean, ff.net is crap and lets anyone post their stories. PK has quality stories and I hope to become one of them biggrin.gif

1. How'd you react when you learned you've been accepted as a Portkey author?

I was excited. I have never done anything like this before, having not written any fiction for decades (Jr. High assignment) so I was pretty happy to have my first fanfiction accepted. biggrin.gif

2. How'd you learn you were accepted in Portkey or other sites? Which of these indicators did you notice first?
I was patiently waiting for an email from Portkey, but I just happened to notice the Control Panel changes first. Then, I checked my email, and got the confirmation there, also.

3. How many hours did you wait before uploading your very first story in Portkey's fanfic side?
Well, I got the notification right before I went to bed, so the next day I waited for a break in RL and uploaded the first 6 chapters.

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?
I needed a break from my on-going job search (11 + months now... angry.gif) and I started reading some HP fan fiction at the recommendation of my oldest daughter. Since I had recently changed from a lukewarm "no-shipper" to a full-fledged H/HR shipper after reading Penny's essay at HP-Lexicon, which helped me wake up to the truth that is H/Hr, wub.gif I obviously ended up at Portkey! thumbup.gif There, I read some beautifully written fanfics, (see my favorites list for some of the many examples), then one thing led to another, and a plot bunny came hopping through my head one day. As I said in the intro to my first story, I either had to shoot it or write it down rolleyes.gif and the rest, as they say, is history.

It was right after I received my acceptance email that I posted. Once I figured out how to do it, it was very easy, too! biggrin.gif

4. What lured you to Portkey? Why did you want to be a Portkey author?
I've been a reader on Portkey for quite a while. I have TONS of stories that I'm tracking and get very excited when I get those emails telling me a new chapter has been posted! I have several stories I've written and often thought of posting them. So I was lurking around in the Harry/Hermione forum one day a few weeks ago and responded to a challenge. When I posted my story (Heart of Steam) and received so much great reviews for it I decided to go for it.

Whe reviewed, I checked my status and it didn't say 'This user is not an author'. So I checked my email.

It took me ten minutes to check my story, and upload the first 5 chapters.

I found this site by typing "harry hermione romance" into my search engine. I spent that whole Saturday just reading, reading, reading!
