The final votes are tallied, the tiebreaker round is over, and so it is time to announce the winners of this third run of the Portkey Reader's Choice Awards!

First off, we'd like to thank those who have helped make these awards a great success.

Thank you to all nominees. You are all wonderful writers, and it is a shame that we can only pick so few for the actual polling process.

Thank you to the readers, who have supported your favorite authors and stories throughout this process, and those of you who also voted. Without you all, these awards would never get off the ground.

Thank you to Nappa, who has graciously allowed us to do this three times, and for the lovely advertising banners he provides. Thanks to James for being our code-monkey (just kidding!).

Thank you to Joyce, who is my better half and also got me into this business in the first place. These awards would never have survived without her effort and dedication, even though she's MIA at this hour tongue.gif

Thank you also to everyone else who assisted us in this process with suggestions, caught mistakes and the like. We owe you guys.

And so, without further ado, we present the Summer 2004 winners of the Portkey Reader's Choice Awards!

*cheers* Whee, go, you people, go! Mainly, go on writing! It's great to see some of my favourite stories/authors be honoured like this here!

Thank you so much Pat and Joyce for giving us the possibility of honouring great authors, and thank you everybody who was nominated for giving us the chance to read great fanfiction!

That said,

Thanks for the nominations and the winning votes! I didn't think I'd have a chance with the likes of fenriswolf, nousia, and twany spitfyre (and all the rest). Congratulations to everyone who won!! smile.gif And thanks again!

Congratulations to all the winners! To all those who didn't, congratulations for being nominated, which is pretty darn hard enough as it is!

I must say, this period has been the hardest period for me to vote, as there are a lot of excellent fics to choose from. This is especially true for the H/Hr novel length section, where it's like comparing apples and oranges because of the diverse number of genres in that section.

I mean, how does one choose between from the best of the best of drama, angst, fluff, humor, and mystery novel-length fics? Does one give heavier weight to the fic that hit all areas or to the other which heavily specializes on one or two?

Needless to say it wasn't easy, as every fic rightfully deserved to have been nominated. Keep up the good work folks!

I felt so honoured for being Nominated for the BEst non H/Hr novel length ff and to have received all those votes!

IT was great, but the writers competing wwith me on that category were exceptional, brilliant and wonderful, and i'm glad Annibug with Send Fudge won, because that's one of my favorite stories.

Wow. I wanted to say, more than anything, a huge thank you to those that voted for me, and to Cheeringcharm, Vicarious Leigh and connaka on LJ for pimping me out. Cheering Charm and Vicarious Leigh were both up against me in that category, and they were so very sweet - they told everyone to read my story and vote for it! I was shocked. I've been in some sort of fandom on and off for about seven years now, and never have I been witness to such kindness.

The other thing that shocks me about all this (in a totally wonderful way) is that I only seriously started writing HP fic a year or so ago. To get an award so soon into my entry into fandom is mind-boggling, especially since my artwork seems to garner most of the attention I get from people. (Not that I mind, I love all feedback I get, I'm always very thankful).

I'm sorry I couldn't respond to everyone personally that left me feedback - I usually like to do that because every time someone takes the time to leave me a message, I am very very thankful. Really. I'm so chuffed, I'm lost for words.

Anyway, enough of my Sally Fields-esque gushing. Good on everyone that won, and my love and congratulations to those that got nominated too. thumbup.gif

I've been trying to think of an original way to say thank you, but I can't come up with anything at all! So, I'll do the standard...

Thank you so, so, so much!

Man, that sounds lame.

Like Nancy, I've only been writing fan fic a short time (one year) and began posting BBB during the last Reader's Choice Awards. I never imagined that I would be nominated during the next round (frankly i wondered if I'd ever finish the damn thing). I never dreamed in a million years that I'd win. Okay, maybe I had a Harry moment when he imagined raising the Tri-wizard cup, but that's personal. biggrin.gif

Congratulations to the other winners and nominees. From the stories I read, everyone deserved to win.

Thanks again!

*clears throat* I'd like to thank the academy, my parents, my...*looks up* Oh, wrong awards ceremony. *shuffles notes*

Ah, here's the right speech.

Thank you all so much! I appreciate the support.

Original, I know, but it's all been said already! I mean it, sincerely. It's an honor.

Like both Nancy and Cheeringcharm, I only started writing fanfiction about a year ago, and only began posting on Portkey just a short time ago at the urging of Cheeringcharm and Vicariousleigh. What an honor to win best new author! When I was nominated, I didn't think I had a chance. So thank you to everyone who supported me, particularly Cheeringcharm and Vicarious Leigh, without whom I would literally not be here. *grins*

Congratulations to all the winners, especially to Sakura1287 for My Beloved Ferret. It was a hard fought win for you and you deserve it!

Wow, I've been avoiding this thread a bit because I didn't know what to say, but it's time for some thanking now. smile.gif

I'm so shocked that I won, and would like to thank EVERYONE that voted for me. I rolled my eyes when I saw I was nominated and never thought I would make it this far.

It was definately a neck and neck race, there were a few times when I was sure you were going to pull ahead. But Congrats anyway on winning Best New Author, that's pretty cool. smile.gif

Thanks Pat and Joyce for putting this whole thing together, you guys rock. laugh.gif

And thank Ri for the awesome night of partyting in my honor. tongue.gif !!!

Thank you so much, SilverButterfly! It was wonderful to be up against such fabulous authors.

I also want to thank Kirixchi. She was writing The Pleasure of your Company in daily installments on her journal and I decided to do the same when the idea for Send Fudge popped into my head. I can't thank her enough for having someone to share the experience with and I doubt I'd have completed it, if not for her urging me on.

Thanks, Kiri! It was an honour to be nominated with you. [/sappiness]

Thank you everyone who voted, whether for me or someone else and most importantly, thank you all for reading! We write for the love of writing, but it's still nice to know when other people enjoy your work.

I'm absolutely thrilled! Thanks again.

All the competition was really great! Thank you to those who nominated and voted for my story smile.gif

Congrats especially to Romulus Lupin who is one of the best writers out there! I love your stories!!!!!

I'm looking forward to what the next competition will produce biggrin.gif
Congrats again,

Okay, don't be scared now, because what I am going to say next makes me immensely happy:

Guest-Mod-Note

I cannot speak in the name of Patrick and Joyce, who have wonderfully coordinated this contest, but I can speak in the name of myself and say something that might be going on in the heads of other Mods as well: I am very, very proud of you guys that you are congratulating your fellow competitors, and that the winners have the decency not to humble themselves, because I'd have to go after them with Kalie's Modly Bamboo Stick of Doom if they did. You're all great authors, and I know for a fact that voting in some categories was very, very hard (especially since I nominated 90% of the fics or authors myself in them tongue.gif).

I'm already compiling a list for the next RCA's smile.gif

That said, happy gushing!

Oh, and Kristina: de nada.

Annibug: I heart.gif your story, and first read it somewhere else and not on PK! I can say that I was elated to find it here. I wish I could write like you or any of the other authors who were nominated for these awards!

Ri

Congratulations to everybody who was nominated and those who won

It's great to see people win something who really, really, really (uh you get what I mean) deserve it. I had read Lucky a long time ago and was utterly speechless but to my shame I didn't thought it was still in the Timelimit. So I missed to nominiate it and well to vote for it but its well deserved there.

BBB I read too of course and its another great story by a even greater author.

What else? There isn't much left I just hope we will get next time again so many great fics so you have it hard to decide, I had the hardest time ever. If I think about there were in one cathegorie so many of my favourite fics and authors I well ended up to weight two weeks for whom I gonna vote.

blush.gif Well, gosh. I had no idea I'd been nominated until someone pointed it out to me, and to actually win one? It's just marvellous. Thank you to every person who voted for "My Little Secret"; I'm honoured and flattered that you thought so highly of it. And special thanks to the person who nominated it (and my H/H fic in another category). It's wonderful people such as yourselves that make writing worth the while. heart.gif

First of all, a big congratulations to all of the winners. I'm proud to offer recognition here for your excellent work.

Also, as co-organizer of the awards, I have a few thanks of my own to dole out.

To all the nominees, thank you for your efforts. Although the competition was tougher than ever this time, I hope that we have at least been able to show you how much we appreciate your work and encourage you to continue writing.

To Nappa, James, Pen, and the rest of the Portkey mod team, thank you for your support and help. It's all thanks to you (or your fault, if you prefer tongue.gif) that we're able to have these awards twice a year.

To my wonderful partner, Patrick (aka Darkstar), thank you for giving me the hare-brained idea for the awards in the first place, helping me get them started, taking over when I was incapacitated by school/work/family problems/whatever, and just being your caring and supportive self. I couldn't have done it without you. Oh, and a big kiss, like that one Adrien Brody gave Halle Berry at the Oscars a few years back, for you, too wink.gif

And last but not least, to the readers and voters, thanks for making this all possible and worthwhile.

'Til the next Awards,

~Joyce~

Could someone link up the winners so that the people who've never read them before, can read them? It would be more conveinient - especially for newbies [myself included], who didn't vote for them.

Or is there a search for us to use?
Szaranea
First of all, welcome to PK, moofoot smile.gif How about you introduce yourself to those who haunt PK here?

To your questions: we do have a search feature in our fanfic side.

Take a look at the first post, though, I inserted the links to each story smile.gif Links to nominated stories can also be found in the voting threads for the according category.

Congratulations to all the winners and nominees and thank you all so much for voting for 'The Boy Who Was Hers' for best short H/Hr smut. I enjoyed writing that story and I'm so glad others enjoyed reading it. Now I have to work on part three. Just as soon as I finish all those other things on my to do list. tongue.gif
