Just a quick question: Why are do H/Hers sail on the HMS Pumpkin Pie? I was wondering why it's called 'Pumpkin Pie.' Thanks for helping me out!!!
NEWER MOD NOTE: To those who want to borrow the answer (in the next post): please read this first. ~gal-texter 8May2008 Dear CO-MODS: Please don't merge this INTO another thread. We need to keep this one's topic ID # 1574 as it's been linked for YEARS in and out of PK (plenty of PK posts, PK's fic rec-engine, and FAP SCUSA). Thanks! ~moving this from Library to H/H main ~gal-texter 19Apr2008 OLDER MOD NOTE: Moving this from "H/H Shipping" Forum to "Prof Binns' Library" ~gal-texter 19Nov2003 |

MESSAGE EDITED IN SEP2003
This was originally set up as 4 (or more) separate threads. I merged them into this one, and edited this 2nd post, sometime in Sep2003. Hence, most of the succeeding posts sound redundant, as they were made before I edited this one. Note to H/H Forum Mods (Eric & Heaven): I thought I'd move this here for everyone's info, and to prevent new threads about this topic. I had to merge 4 threads into this one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MOD's NOTE & QUICK GUIDE: by gal-texter. References abound in this post '-) Origin of HMS Pumpkin Pie ==> it's on this very post Fandom Shipping Terms (HMS, SS, etc.) ==> yup, it's on this post, too! Origin of HMS Harmony (suggested alternative H/H Ship Name) ==> read Stncold's question about HMS Harmony, and Mad Eyed Mike's reply Speculations on why R/Hr shippers call their ship the "Good Ship", and why their motto is "We believe in trees" ==> read this, this, this, this, and this, this, this, this No R/Hr bashing, please. R/Hr shippers are welcome to enlighten us further! Feel free to add your own comments on this piece of H/H history! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ History Lessons Start Here ... Ever wondered why the H/H ship is called the HMS Pumpkin Pie? It's all because of this fic. Title: untitled, but it's known as the original Pumpkin Pie tale Author: Narri aka Someone The First Rating: PG or PG-13, I guess Genre: fluff length(optional): one shot Other Ships: none Location(URL): first appearance, fiction alley re-post by Narri, fiction alley re-post by a Mod, Pumpkin_Pie_Archive Yahoogroup Warnings: Summary(optional): "You taste like pumpkin pie." Optional User Comments: Read this and the 2 posts that follow it, for more info on the author (Narri). EDIT 11May2004: Read this for Narri's Jan 2004 reaction to the pumpkin pie phenomenon, and this for another one of her stories. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Professor Binns' lesson on the HMS Pumpkin Pie's History -- One of the few times the students didn't fall asleep The Tale of the HMS Pumpkin Pie QUOTE(purple_mud @ Jul 24 2003, 04:53 AM) I've tried looking for the fic by Cassie which started the Pumpkin Pie. I couldn't find it. I'm really sorry to bother you all with this but I really do want to read it and I was hoping if anyone can give me a direct link for it? First, fanfic author Cassandra Claire posted (on FictionAlley.org) a teaser from her fanfic, Draco Veritas' Chapter 4. It's reproduced at the bottom of this this post. Take note of Ms. Claire's challenge at the end of her teaser. In response to Ms. Claire's challenge, Narri wrote her Pumpkin Pie ficlet (linked somewhere above). It ended with the words: “You taste like pumpkin pie.” As you can tell, that phrase caught on. ~gal-texter ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Madam Pince's Dictionary of Fandom Terms ~by gal-texter Fandom Dictionary -- includes info on how "ship" and other terms acquired their present fandom connotations. Read this to satisfy your curiousity about HMS, SS, RMS, HMAS. Back to the Present ... for More History Lessons? **Parker's email to me on 14 June 2004 Hey. Of course it's okay for you to use the story. I wrote that as a lark, as a response to that very question (why are you lot the Pumpkin Pie?) on a SCUSA thread. I had no idea we'd still be using it now to explain our strange name. I really don't care who uses it, as long as it's got my name on it. Parker |

I don't know why they're the Good Ship, but as a lurky member of Sugarquill, they're trees because, as one of them said, "I don't believe in Ron and Hermione any more than trees. They're both just there."
Hope this helps. As for the Good Ship...a lapse of creativity, perhaps? ~Nell |

Hi everyone! Frequent person aboard the HMS Pumpkin Pie over at Fictionalley's SCUSA message boards
I don't know the full story. Maybe someone should ask them...? But the story that you are all searching for, the link could be found on the ship's Public Service Announcements where it directs you to links like the unofficial H/Hr soundtrack list. But anyway, in order to find what you are requesting, you should go on over to the Pumpkin Pie Archive Yahoo Group and click on "files". Once there, there will be a description of how the Tale of the HMS Pumpkin Pie which should explain everything. Happy sailing! |
